Cheapest/Solo Clan Dojo Layout 2023 Edition
By DrLego
If you are looking to make a clan dojo for yourself and/or your friends, this guide may be for you. Dojo layouts can be deceptive in their appearance of simplicity, but as a dojo layout is extended, you may come across obstacles and complications you weren't expecting by just expanding the dojo through the normal course of play. This guide will help inform you of how to minimize resource costs while you enjoy maximum functionality.

Starting a Clan and Dojo Layout Basics
Beginning Advisory

Before making your clan, it's important to know that joining a clan is generally a superior option. While this guide can offer a way to minimize dojo layout expenses, there is no getting around the costs that come with researching equipment, or decorating dojo rooms you add to your layout. It is strongly suggested that if you insist on making your own clan, you should first join a clan with 100% research completion. Once you join, assuming blueprint replication isn't disabled, you should replicate as much blueprints as you can afford within your Mastery Rank. Replicating blueprint research for equipment is significantly less expensive than investing resources in blueprint research to replicate later. In other words, buying blueprints from another clan is cheaper than paying resources to research what you will buy from your own clan.

Creating Your Own Clan

In order to make your own clan, enter the pause menu with the Esc key, go to Communcation, and then to Clan. You should see a menu similar to the one below.

Select the obvious option, and you will be prompted to enter the name you wish your clan to have. Once the clan is created, so is your clan dojo. However, before you can enter your clan dojo, you must build the clan key. On clan creation, a clan key blueprint will be automatically added to your foundry. You may choose to rush the key with platinum after beginning construction, but it is not advised in this guide as the aim is to minimize resource costs. Once built, you will then have access to your created clan dojo.

Starter Clan Hall

All clan dojos begin with a Clan Hall room. This room costs no resources and generates 5 energy that can be spent on new dojo rooms. You may choose to keep this room in your layout if you wish, however, it is optional and it may become very difficult or time consuming to remove later on when the dojo layout is expanded. If you choose to rebuild it later, rebuilding it will cost you resources. This guide will cover how to remove this room later.

Adding Dojo Rooms

The starting Clan Hall room has 2 dead end doors, they can be interacted with to open the Dojo Architect Menu, which allows you to add new rooms if there is space available. Rooms that are added to your layout will start in an unfunded state and are colored yellow. Added rooms will begin construction only when you have funded them completely. Completely funding a dojo room will change it from yellow to blue. Construction of a dojo room can take 12 or 24 hours depending on the room. If your dojo doesn't have enough Energy, you won't be able to add dojo rooms until you build a Reactor. Reactors can always be built even if you have 0 Energy; but you must have available space for them. You will know if there's not enough space when either you're unable to build anything, or when a room in the architect menu is locked and labeled INSUFFICIENT SPACE. Every dojo room is larger than the minimap suggests, so making assumptions about where you can fit dojo rooms is ill-advised.

Deleting Dojo Rooms

Dojo room deletion is an intricate process depending on the state of your dojo layout. The process to delete a room is simple, but the circumstances can make it more complicated and time consuming. All that's required to delete a dojo room is to access the room console of the room you wish to delete, and choose the Destroy Room option. This starts a 2 hour timer until the dojo room is destroyed, this timer can be cancelled which will cancel the deletion process.

There are some conditions that must be met before a dojo room can be deleted:
  • The room is not set as a spawn room either by default or via the room console.
  • The room is at the end of a branch of connected rooms.
  • The dojo will have at least 0 energy after deletion.
  • The room is a lab that is not being depended on by other lab rooms.

The Clan Hall is designated as a spawn room when a clan is created by default. This can be changed later. The only rooms that give energy to a dojo are the Clan Hall and Reactor. You will be unable to delete a Clan Hall or Reactor if they're supplying the dojo with necessary energy until you make up for the potential energy loss. For example, if your dojo has 2 energy, you won't be able to delete a Clan Hall or Reactor until a Reactor is built elsewhere. Reactors give 25 energy, and the starting Clan Hall gives 5 energy.

Dojo Room Branch Order

Dojo rooms built from the doors of other dojo rooms become connected like a branch and are dependent on them. Rooms that are depended on by other rooms can't be deleted until those other rooms are deleted first in order from newest to oldest. Merging room branches into a loop only connects them physically. The ends of the branches physically connected to each other can be deleted because they weren't constructed through each others' doors.

Branch order can also be determined based which dojo room is set as a spawn room via the room console. For example, if you built an Inspiration Hall next to the starting Clan Hall, and no other rooms exist, you would be prevented from deleting the Clan Hall, but allowed to delete the Inspiration Hall. However, setting the Inspiration Hall as a spawn room switches the room dependency order, and this action would allow you to delete the Clan Hall (if you have a reactor) but not the Inspiration Hall. The images below are a mini-map visual example of this scenario (Spawn Mark and Branch Mark are visual aids that do not appear on your minimap ingame):

Connecting different room branches together in a loop or network can make it visually difficult to determine where branches end or where they begin. Attempting to delete a room that isn't spawn with dependencies will bring up the prompt below:

If you choose OK, the minimap will display this icon for each room that has to be deleted first. The icon marks the furthest end branch rooms first, and may mark rooms connected to those end branch rooms when the end branch rooms are deleted. However, if you keep notes, remember which rooms your branches end in, and optimize your room branches, it will be easier for you to manage your dojo layout.
Optimizing Your Clan Dojo
Branches and Spawns

The clan dojo layout system is generous with possibilities. You can build your dojo almost in anyway you wish. However, with the arrival of updates and hotfixes, you may wish to make alterations to your dojo layout from it's original design for a number of reasons.Sometimes new dojo rooms are introduced into Warframe, and sometimes your feelings on room arrangements may change. It is crucial to plan ahead and develop a dojo layout that can accommodate the unexpected. That is why it's important to build rooms in a specific way and to consider which you will set as a spawn room. Dojo layouts are capped at a maximum of 128 rooms, so it's disadvantageous to build 128 rooms for the present only to regret it in the future when a new room is introduced.

To illustrate the importance of room and branch order, consider the following dojo layout, with numbers assigned based on the order the rooms were added to the layout and with Clan Hall as the spawn room:

If you wanted to delete room 10, you would be forced to delete rooms 11-21 first because they're chained to room 10. Each room takes 2 hours to delete, so the longer a chain of rooms is, the more time it takes to delete them if you wish to restructure your dojo layout.

A similar situation exists if you wanted to delete room 1. Room 1 can't be deleted until you delete rooms 2-21. However, you can change the dependency order of rooms by changing the spawn room from Clan Hall to Clan Great Hall. So the chain of dependency above changes it's resemblance into the one below when you change the spawn room.

In this new dependency chain example, room 1 becomes room 19, which can be deleted if you delete rooms 20 and 21 first. Room 10 becomes room 3, but in order to delete room 3, you have to delete rooms 4-14. As a result, it's important to construct your dojo layout in such a way to minimize restructure time and taking advantage of placing spawn room locations some distance apart.

Dojo Layout Considerations

There are some general guidelines to consider when making your own layout:
  • Using many Connector or Hallway rooms (not Halls) increases room branch sizes needlessly.
Connectors have the lowest amount of doors to build from, making them inefficient.

  • You can use elevators to create new floors to separate rooms by category. However,
keep in mind that some dojo rooms are taller or deeper than the floors you make. These rooms include the Dry Dock, Observatory, Open Space, Earth Forest Chamber, and more.

  • The spine or core of the layout should have spawns, labs, and critical features to expand from. Keeping critical clan infrastructure together is easier for your clan mates to find and use.

  • The spine or core of the layout should use the least amount of room capacity possible.
This reduces the possibility of requiring a total clan layout restructure in the future.

  • You must be confident that you will not change the spine or core of your dojo layout.
Changing your spine or core may put critical clan features temporarily out of commission.

  • Keep your room branches as separate lines that go in one unchanging direction.
Changing branch direction increases the chance of complications and insufficient space.
However, you don't want these room branches to be too long either.

Clan Tiers

When you start a clan, it starts as a Ghost Tier clan. There are a total of 5 Clan Tiers, and each tier has an effect on your membership capacity and resource costs for clan research, dojo rooms. and dojo decorations. The higher your tier, the higher the clan membership capacity, but also the higher your resource costs. Staying at Ghost Tier will ensure your resource costs stay at the minimum. Raising your clan's tier requires building the corresponding Barracks room. Once your clan tier has increased, you no longer need to have that barracks room.

Clan Ranks

Clan Ranks are different from Clan Tiers. All clans start at Rank 0. They have no effect on resource costs or membership capacity. Clan Ranks are determined by how much Clan XP a clan accumulates. You get Clan XP from building specific dojo rooms, building a Trade Post (decoration), building a Treasury Vault (decoration), and completing clan research of all kinds.

Once you've received enough Clan XP to rank up, your clan is eligible to participate in the Ascension Ceremony. The Ascension Ceremony requires an Ascension Altar (decoration) to be built. Clan members that participate in the Ascension Ceremony by interacting with the Ascension Altar will receive an endo reward equal to 1,000 times the clan's rank. This endo reward can't be recollected, meaning you can only get the endo reward once for each rank up; regardless of whether you transfer to other clans or make your own. Reaching Rank 10 for your clan will unlock the Ignis Wraith Blueprint Research in the Chem Lab.

Clan Lab Dependencies

Clan Lab dependency operates a little differently from dojo room dependency. You won't be able to build any labs until you build the Oracle. The Oracle's only function is to enable you to build other labs. However, you won't be able to build every other lab after placing an Oracle. The Orokin Lab, Bio Lab, Chem Lab, and the Tenno Lab can be built once an Oracle is built. Ventkids' Bash Lab and Dagath's Hollow both depend on the construction of the Tenno Lab, so you won't be able to immediately build both of them until the Tenno Lab is built. Keep this in mind if you're making your own dojo layout. Don't go into a dojo layout expecting to build any lab room you want in any order.

Clan Research Dependencies

Clan research is available and dispersed among the Lab rooms. This research is the greatest source of Clan XP for your clan. However, some research can't be started until other research is complete.

Cheapest Dojo Layout Instructions: Start to Finish in 7 Steps
Step 1: Build Inspiration Hall

You can choose whichever direction you want at this stage, it doesn't matter at all. Other room options can include Clan Grandest Hall or Entrati Hall as they're identical in relative size, have 4 doors on the side, and have the ability to be set as spawn. Inspiration Hall is recommended though since it has more decoration capacity than Clan Grandest Hall, and has more space you can play with than the Entrati Hall. Also, you're limited to only 1 Clan Grandest Hall per dojo.

Step 2: Build, Set, Delete!

The very first thing you'll do in the Inspiration Hall is build 4 Reactors, 2 on each side of the room. Once they are built, you will have the energy to build the Observatory. After the Reactors are built, set the Inspiration Hall as a spawn room via the room console. This should allow you to delete the Clan Hall your clan dojo starts with. You can build it again later at anytime, almost anywhere you want.

Step 3: Delete Clan Hall, Add Inspiration Hall

Your dojo layout should look like the image below if you're dead set on following this guide. If it doesn't, then leave a comment with a screenshot of your minimap and hope for a response. Once the Clan Hall is deleted, build an Inspiration Hall where the Clan Hall used to be.

Step 4: Build Oracle, Dueling Room, Inspiration Hall, and Patience

Once the Inspiration Hall is built, you can build the Oracle, Dueling Room, and the 3rd Inspiration Hall immediately. The Orokin Lab can be built once the Oracle is built. The Bash Lab will have to be built later so for now the space is reserved. If you're feeling impatient however, you can choose to build the Tenno Lab where the Bash Lab is designated to be in this guide. The labs in this guide are being ordered by how many times clan members will be expected to use them. The Orokin Lab is usually used at least once to replicate Dragon Key blueprints which have infinite use. The Bash Lab is usually used at least twice; once for Yareli, and twice for Yareli again to subsume for the Helminth Segment. You may choose to build the Labs in any order you wish; except for Dagath's Hollow as it will not fit without blocking other rooms from being built.

Step 5: Build Labs, Temple of Honor, and Set Inspiration Hall as Spawn

Once the 3rd Inspiration Hall is built, you will be able to build Bio Lab, Energy Lab, Tenno Lab, Chem Lab, and Temple of Honor simultaneously. Once Tenno Lab is built, you can then build the Bash Lab in it's reserved space. The last thing to do is set this 3rd Inspiration Hall as a Spawn Room via the room console. This will allow all clan members to spawn as close as possible to the most critical clan features in this room and the rooms that follow. Rooms like the Temple of Honor can be rotated before placement. If you don't like the direction the statue is facing, and if you didn't fund the room, you can delete it and try to rotate it correctly again before funding it.

Step 6: Build Crimson Branch, Dagath's Hollow, and Dry Dock

Once the Temple of Honor is built, you will be able to build the Crimson Branch, Dagath's Hollow, and Dry Dock rooms. You can swap the Dagath's Hollow and Crimson Branch room locations if you wish. The direction of the Dry Dock can be important, as the Dry Dock is significantly, obscenely longer than it appears on the minimap. Ensure your rotation of the Dry Dock is correct before proceeding, especially if you plan to develop your layout eastward or westward.

Step 7: Build both Obstacle Courses

Once the Dry Dock is built, you can build the Obstacle Course on one side, and the Obstacle Course Architect on the other side. It doesn't really matter which side these obstacle courses end up in. It's just that the Obstacle Course Architect is worth visiting more often than the other course, and building it on the west side puts it closer to the Dry Dock fast travel point.

Final Minimap Result and Notes

The dojo layout should be complete and the minimap should match the image below. This dojo layout is a closed system and is therefore not future-proof. If new dojo rooms are released that you wish to incorporate into your dojo, you can temporarily delete the Observatory, Obstacle Course, and Obstacle Course Architect rooms and place Entrati Halls, Earth Forest Chambers, or any other rooms you wish and then cap them off with those temporarily deleted rooms.

@RavenScout Wherever you choose the spawn room to be near where players spawn in the dojo. Trying to hide it, or placing it far away will only waste everyone's time and your time trying to trade.

The beautiful thing about the Trade Post is that you can have multiple of them, so once you've placed one in reach of spawn, you can place as many as you want, wherever you want.

Thank you for your guide! It really helped me make my own solo dojo. I expected it to be a tough task or a large resource sink. Thanks to your guide i could make the whole dojo in a single day(actually took me 2 hours) after spending plat(around 350). If anyone otherwise choose to not spend plat, this will barely take 7-8 days with forma being your only limit.
