Japan's surrender marked the end of World War II. At noon on August 15, 1945, the Japanese emperor broadcast to the whole of Japan, accepting the Potsdam Proclamation of the United States, the United States and the United Kingdom, which urged Japan to surrender, and implementing unconditional surrender, ending the war. At 9 a.m. on September 2, 1945, the signing ceremony of Japan's surrender, marking the end of World War II, was held on the main deck of the USS Missouri, which was moored in Tokyo Bay.
