Introduction
This guide is for Beginners and (sorta) for Advanced players.
I don't honestly know if anybody above that skill level can benefit from this but oh well..

Heyo, my name is Accuracii or JellyfishCat on Quaver. And I'm a fairly experienced rhythm gamer who started off in the worse way possible (fnf) I took quaver seriously around the middle of May 2023.
currently a 5 digit on Osu![osu.ppy.sh], i know sucks... but hey i'm working on it.

I cannot guarantee that this will be helpful! This guide is sorta bullcrap, but I'll try my best to actually explain things, as I have never actually made a guide before.. While most joke guides say "Oh just play the damn game!!" its not entirely false, as playing the game regularly will allow you to improve even though.
Notes
Theres a buncha different types of notes in this game,

SOURCE : https://www.flashflashrevolution.com/vbz/showthread.php?t=115282
scroll to the very bottom for notes

Many are easy, or very very annoying
To name a few,

= Jump =
2 notes needing to be hit simultaneously

= Hands =
3 note jumps

= Quads =
4 note jumps

= Jacks =
Spammy notes, should be fairly easy if you're on a lower scroll speed. The higher the scroll speed, the harder Jacks should get. Though they are easier than most, found in streams or jumpstreams

= Chord Jacks =
Guess you can say they're like Jumps but with varying note patterns

= Long notes =
Hold notes, Quaver maps like these. Hold the note and time the release

= Streams =
Pretty repetitive, Think of it as stairs!

= Jumpstreams =
Not similar to Regular streams whatsoever oh my goodness. You wont typically see these notes in beginner to amateur level maps.

= Handstreams =
Not even close to Jumpstreams, You're in the big leagues now. Streams but they replace jumps with hands

= g̸͉̤̗͐d̸̡̨̯̯̅̚f̵̢͉̥̒̓͝s̴̪͓̦͖̃ḩ̶̐́͌ţ̷͑ẅ̸̦́͊̍͝j̶̫͊ả̶̤́̓͘s̸̮̔̆̏r̵̬͕̤̃͗̈́͆ͅh̵̨̺̰́̂̅͝w̴̫͂́̽͝r̶̢̪̔ =
Dear god.
Settings
Settings are a key feature to your gameplay, Whether if thats changing your scroll speed or your offset.

= Scroll Speed =
Scroll speed effects your reading ability. Reading is REALLY important!!!
If you cant read your notes your not hitting jack shi-

The slower the scroll speed the easier it should be to read, Though for people who are used to higher speeds could honestly struggle on it.. like me! :D

If you're beginning, I recommend a scroll speed of 10-15, if you search for things like "BEST scroll speed for ______" whats wrong with you. There is legit no "best" scroll speed, its whatever fits your play style. If you like playing it slow, do 15. If you like playing it fast, do 20+

Advanced players typically use 20 - 30+. When you feel like your at that level to go beyond your limits, increase your scroll speed ever so slightly every map you play. an hour or two worth of gameplay with new scroll speeds could drastically improve your reading capability.
-
= Offset =
As for your Offset, if your computer typically has a low latency you should try tweaking your offset to a point that is comfortable (or high latency)

If you're lazy, then I guess you can use quavers offset system (not recommended)

this one is a tad bit better, but beggars cant be choosers..
Ratings
Each Map/Song will have a rating

Whether that being 16.68 or 37.52

Ratings basically define your Quaver acount, whether if its filled with S+ Ranks or filled with god awful scores in your recent tab (I've never done that before what are you talking about)

When you finish a song, you'll be given a rating based on how well or how ass you did.
Ratings increase your overall rank overtime

Accuracy plays a big role in your Rating, the higher the accuracy the better the rating and ranking.
Full combos as well (not missing once)
Reading Patterns
The first part of this guide which was talking about notes, are also just patterns. Most maps follow some if not most of these patterns.

If you cannot understand a pattern or just unable to read the map, thats fine!
what you can do it use Autoplay in the Modifiers tab (bottom right corner)

When in Autoplay, you can decrease the speed of a song and even go to 0.1x speed.
doing so, you can easily read the patterns of the song

Focus on Maps that typically you'd fail on and study it (if you want)
you can apply learning from other rhythm games which are similar to this game
Skins
Usually you should try stylising your game to make it generally easier and nicer for yourself
There are 4 types of shapes that you could search for

= Arrows =

= Circles =

= Diamonds =

= Bars =

You can find most of these in the Steam workshop as it should be.
Find whatevers most comfortable to you and stick with it!
Keybinds and Styles
Keybinds are of course, a Key factor in rhythm games.
Finding your optimal keybinds should be your MAIN priority when starting off, you have to feel as comfortable as you can be!

Typically, starting players should use DF-JK or SD-KL. These are fairly nice keybinds which allows a bit of comfort, of course you can experiment around and find your own set of keybinds but these are what i recommend.

When playing, most players have their Wrist down on their desk. Its a common thing, Other people use another style where they have their Wrist up and hovering over their desk. And some have their Wrist down but curved fingers.

These all have their ups and downs, but again. Whatever is most comfortable and easy for you!

PROS
Wrist down- Easier to play for a long period of time
Wrist up- General speed and accuracy improved (not guaranteed)
Wrist down Fingers curled- A fine balance between the other two styles

CONS
Wrist down- Unable to play faster harder maps. Harder to hit Jacks,Streams and others
Wrist up- Lack of stamina, uncomfortable
Wrist down Fingers curled- Finger lock!!!!
Confidence
There will be times where you'll play a map smoothly, glance at your rating... And then come to a realisation that you just bombed the entire map, failed miserably. And now you're pissed and then you close the game entirely.

To avoid that, well for one don't look at how your doing. Focus on the map itself, be disappointed later. As well as this thing

This leaderboard...
Please for the love of god press [Tab] and close the mofo because that will discourage you if you look at it too much, Seeing if you're doing bad on a map you've played before could potentially make you mad.

Dont stress too much! have around an hour worth of grinding and ranking and take a break, Dont burn yourself out on rhythm games. Burning yourself out generally just draws you away from the game, and could eventually just stop you from playing the game. Remember that your not only playing the game to get that sweet sweet #1, but you're also just playing for fun!

DO NOT discourage yourself, try and try and you'll eventually get to that spot you want to be at. Not everyone is great off the bat, Improve and improve!
