How to make GTR 2 more immersive and realistic + fixing the AI.

GTR 2 is probably the one who started revolutionize sim racing, it has so much cool features that were missing on newer sims. Dynamic day/night cycle, 24 hours, and so much more. this game is literally a complete package if you want a good single player experience on sims, but sadly, some things didn't work as it meant to be in this game.
i'm quite surprised that people didn't realize how bad the AI was on a real and authentic way to play a.k.a endurance
( sorry folks, but this is my opinion :D, i played GTR 2 for a long time ). welp, it's understandable since people only raced for like 20 minutes or so.

The physics is also quite a problem back in the day, people said that it was quite arcadish ( i've also thought like this, tbh ), people tend to like the physics of the first GTR rather than GTR 2, because it's harder and had those 'never cross the limit' feeling.

So i'm here to share some of the mods and fixes to make GTR 2 more enjoyable and realistic in terms of immersion, physics, and AI behaviour. My goal is to make the game felt as close as vanilla.

1.Crew Chief
Crew Chief is a must if you want a realistic race engineer. It also fixed many bugs on the stock game such as black roads, grey cars ( licensing issue ), etc. Get CrewChief here :

After you installed the software, follow these steps :

-Open CrewChief, then go to properties.

-Find these 2 columns at the top, and locate your GTR 2 installation folder.

- ( Recommended ) After done doing that, click this menu at the top, and choose UI, Startup & Paths.

-Find these and check the box.

You're done! start CrewChief, and just click OK when it asks you to install some plugins for GTR 2.
2.Von Dutch AI Mod ( INSTALL THIS BEFORE NAPmod! )
As i mentioned at the start of this guide, i'm underwhelmed with how the AI raced when it comes to endurance racing. GTR 2 is all about endurance, even FIA GT itself was an endurance series. AI commonly slowed down after 1 hour of the race, they slowed down by at least 5 seconds ( yes, i'm not joking, i experienced this so many times ).

Luckily, there's a mod that fix or reduced this effect significantly, it was made by Von Dutch. For more explanation of this ai slowdown issue you could see the PDFs that created by Von Dutch.

the installation is simple, just extract the folder, copy these folders to GTR 2 directory, then overwrite all the files. You're basically done after that.

3.NAPmod
I played GTR 2 with original physics so many times, but i felt like it was quite wrong. The car weight distribution, and suspensions worked quite decent, but the handling, tyres feels arcadish and weirdly fast in my opinion.

NAPmod changed everything with the car. Suspensions, Grip, Tyres, Handling was overhauled. the cars felt more raw and slippy, same as real life, you need passion to make it to the end of the race ( Endurance ). Get the mod here!

just scroll down, and look for 'NAPmod 1.4 Patch'. Click it and it downloads automatically. After you download the installer, open it and when it asks you to locate GTR 2 Directory, just direct it to GTR 2 Folder and then click next. Wait for it to finish and you're done!

4.Helmet View Mod
GTR 2 Cockpit view is amazing, you get every details for each cars. But to make it realistic there's something missing, yeah, Helmet Visor!

Helmet visor adds more immersion to the game, and i'm using it for years! it worked with every mod and addons!

Here's how to make it work :

-After you extracted the archive, choose which helmet style you want









-There should be something called 'UIAssets.GTR' and 'MOTECHUD.DDS' on each helmet folders.






-Copy 'UIAssets.GTR' into GTR2rootfolder/UIData, then overwrite the original one. And for the 'MOTECHUD.DDS', copy it into GTR2rootfolder/GameData/Teams ( make sure you do backups! ).

To activate the visor on the game, go to settings -> advanced -> HUD In Cockpit enabled.
5.Rfactor 2 Headphysics
Original headphysics was good, but the bopping and vibrations is quite static. Rfactor 2 head physics makes cockpit view felt more immersive and realistic.

6.Sound Mods
There are many sound mods for GTR 2, but only a few of them had a very good quality. I'm sharing some of the sound mods out there that i used, here it is :

Hello! Late reply but thanks guys! Appreciate the kind words, kinda forgot this guide exists haha. Was doing it when i was having an old 4th gen intel lenovo and got nothing to do as a late 10th grader. I would probably update this guide with more appealing photos and grammars in near future.
