one note before we start
this is mainly for low poly models
and cartooni looks

also im going to work on my old model you can download a model or make one yourself for this guide

STEP-1 UV
go to uv editing

go to uv and select smart uv unwrap this will do all of the hard work for you

make sure you put some value in to the island margin is important

reault for me :

if you go to overlay and enable display scratch you see scratching on you model

if its on red or close to red you need to fix you mesh
STEP-2 texture paint
after you done go to texture paint tab

add new texture

choose base color
and disable alpha
hit ok

new when you drawing on your model

for sharp edge you may get this

to solve this problem go to fall off section
and disable normal falloff

and you are good to go

you have two windows on the left one go here and choose the texture that we made

everything you draw you see here as well

you can draw on this side too

for better overlap add more bleed

go to option and add some bleed

this is difference between 2 and 16 bleed value

now if you have separate object and you want to only paint those

go to edit mode on right side window and click on one of the faces and press L this will select all of the linked faces

now i want to only paint the knife handle so i select that part and after that im going back to texture paint mode

and select this which is called paint mask

after i do that you can see that the part we selected on edit mode is gray

now you can choose a color and with fill tool fill it
like PAINT .

STEP-3 lines
hey i want to make straight lines but i can't is there anything to help me

yes go to stroke selection and change the stroke method to line

this is the result :

you can use other stroke method as well to see what they do

result :

you are basically done

now you know how blender texture painting works and you can now paint your
low poly model for your project.

enjoy!
