WELCOME!
MY CONFIG FILE HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH A FEW TWEAKS TO REDUCE THE REDNESS OF SKIN TONES AND INCREASE CLARITY, THESE CHANGES MAY CAUSE VISUAL DIFFERENCES SLIGHTLY FROM THE SCREENSHOTS SHOWN BELOW
(FOR THE BETTER!)
This guide is poised to walk you through downloading and configuring "Reshade", an open source shader customization tool to help correct some of the negative impact visual choices within Star Ocean: The Divine Force. We will do this through sharpening and light use of tonemapping for color correction as well as adding in artificial, yet effective HDR. After we are done you can expect to have removed the yellowish screen filter and washed out colors as well as heavily minimized or completely removed any blurriness.
REQUIRED DOWNLOADS
To begin we need two things, my preset configuration for Star Ocean 6 and RESHADE itself.

1. CONFIG FILE:
My Configuration File is hosted via Google Drive and can be found HERE[drive.google.com]

NOTE: Please be sure to have this file downloaded and accessible as you will need it when installing RESHADE!

2. RESHADE:
Download RESHADE HERE[reshade.me]

Once you have downloaded BOTH the Config File AND Reshade we can get started!

RESHADE INSTALLATION

Step 1.
Find your "ReShade_Setup_#.#.#.exe" file that we downloaded earlier. By default it should be in Window's Downloads folder.
NOTE: During this guide I will be using the default Windows directories, your file directories may be different.

Step 2.
Open the installer and find STAR OCEAN 6 in the list of installed, compatible software.
Once you have selected the game click "NEXT" towards the bottom of the window.
NOTE: There is a search function at the bottom of the "Select a game or application" Window, use this to find Star Ocean 6 quickly by typing in "STAR".

Step 3.
Select the "Microsoft DirectX 10/11/12" option and click "NEXT"

Step 4.
Select "BROWSE" on the bottom right section of the "Select preset to install" Window.

A file/folder selection window should pop-up, Find and select the "Ocean of Stars.ini" we downloaded earlier and it will close the Window.

Verify the "Ocean of Stars.ini" file path is shown in the text box next to the "Browse" button towards the bottom and then click "NEXT"

Step 5.
The next window will show you what plug-ins will be needed to properly utilize my preset ReShade configuration. Make sure it looks like the below image to verify you have the correct plug-ins selected.
NOTE: This method of installation will auto-select the plug-ins necessary for my ReShade preset alongside the default options.

Verify that "Standard", "SweetFX" and "qUINT" packages are selected and click "NEXT"
The installer should then display a quick section downloading the required plug-ins and will end on a completed screen with a green check-mark once they are downloaded and set-up properly.
At this point you can go ahead and click "FINISH".

Congratulations! You have successfully installed ReShade and a Preset Config!
IN-GAME ReShade Configuration.
Now that we have installed and configured ReShade with the "Ocean of Stars.ini" preset.
Let's dive in-game and confirm it is all working as intended!

Step 1: Launch Star Ocean The Divine Force

Step 2: An Overlay will appear at the top of the screen showing the compiling of assets for ReShade.

Step 3: There is a window that should appear when you press the "HOME" Key on your Keyboard.
Step 3.5: This will start a tutorial and eventually lead you to the main config window for ReShade.

Step 4: ReShade's main window should now be displayed similar to the below image.
Highlighted in GREEN is where you can select and see which Preset is currently in use. It should be displaying "Ocean of Stars" if everything went correctly during installation.
Highlighted in BLUE is the list of available shader altering plug-ins. A selection should already be enabled if the installation process was performed successfully.

As a final little tip, I like to change a few settings in the "SETTINGS" tab at the top, for one I set my Shaders to be toggled on or off with the "END" key on my Keyboard. This setting makes switching between to see the differences easier when making changes or you simply want to see the original version of the game shaders at some point. The location of this setting is highlighted in GREEN in the below image.

Also highlighted in BLUE the below image is where you can change the UI coloring for ReShade, Mine is set to Orange via custom settings, the Default is a shade of Blue.

UNINSTALLING RESHADE
If you end up wanting to remove Reshade or experience any issues, just right click Star Ocean in your library, click manage, then click browse local files.

Once the file browser opens locate and delete the following folders and files:

  • Reshade-shaders
  • Ocean of Stars.ini
  • ReShade.ini
  • ReShade.log
  • ReShadePreset.ini

ReShade should now be uninstalled from your game presenting you with the vanilla experience.

Thank you so much, The original settings on max is just poopy do do, Using your reshade and playing around with the Sharpening absolutely blows my mind with how beautiful this game is.
Here's a comparison (In-case anyone needs further proof)
I'll let y'all guess which one is the Reshaded one and which one is the original

Also for people having issues with this config's color or sharpness, you can just adjust it yourself until it looks good. These setting will vary based on your monitor and driver calibrations, so you can't really just copy paste someone's color config and expect it to look the same on your setup all the time.

Alternative fix for blurryness is playing in 4k (this doesn't seem to be resolution related but for whatever reason 1080p and 2k add this blurry visual). I only play on a 1080p monitor but my hardware either can't handle 4k or the game bugs out when setting it to 4k however as characters and assets seem to start skipping frames (not overall fps related I think).

Another actual "fix" for under 4k resolution setting is enabling AMD/Nvididia sharpening in your driver for the game.

Colors are just a tad bit off. I also did experience annoying stuttering with it active. It was nearly non existent w/o it.

@ AchillesOnceMore, if you set up everything as described you should be able to turn off Reshade with the END key on your keyboard, if that increases performance then it "may" be Reshade. But Reshade is so light weight I cannot see it causing noticeable performance issues except on already struggling or very old hardware.

If that does not fix the issue and you truly want to remove Reshade just right click Star Ocean in you library, click manage, then click browse local files.

Once the file browser opens locate and delete the following folders and files:

* Reshade-shaders
* Ocean of Stars.ini
* ReShade.ini
* ReShade.log
* ReShadePreset.ini
