General Notes/Endings
Before we start, I want you to remember that Foretales has so many different possibilities and it may not even be possible to capture them all in the same guide!

I strongly encourage you to also explore some possibilities on your own in game, which is part of the whole experience.

Here are some overall notes to remember as you play:
  • For the True Ending, you do need to get everyone. But if you're doing one of your first runs where you're laying some groundwork, you don't need to get too caught up in trying to save everyone or you put yourself at risk for running out of time on the most important missions (learned this run 1).
  • The game is designed for you to have more than 1 run to get all the resources for all of the endings.
  • Isenburg will burn no matter what you do.
  • Make sure to use the rest features properly - you can maximize its value if there's space for 3 cards in the maximum pile for each of your teammates.

    Team comp matters for missions.
If you do not cure your Beastilence by the end of the game, it will kill you instead of the Maelstrom anyway.

This guide will be updated procedurally as I learn more about the game.

First Run? Read this to save some time!
I strongly recommend joining up with the cultists in The Initiation if this is your first run. You need a few things from them to set up for later endings, including the True Ending.
In another run, you'll also need to witness the end of the world by Maelstrom with Timothy at your side.
Finally, you'll need to have gone to the Forbidden Library once to get the recipe for the cure for the Beastilence, which will require Sylvia, the Herbalist. She won't join you if you kill too many people or build a bad reputation with Grim.

    True Ending

NOTE: You need a few other endings first to lay groundwork for the True Ending. You need to side with the cultists to get an essential secret character and other info, and you need one run where you go to the Forbidden Library to learn the recipe for the cure. You also need this secret character to get an instrument in the mines for something else.
    Credit: Sehka
Skip The Prisoner (you can get Leo later) and skip The Library (if you do it, you can't get both Sylvia and Isabeau), and skip The Nymphant.

Ideally, the mission order would be: The Negotiator (Isabeau), The Strike Leader (Karst), save the miners, The Advocate (Pattenbois), The Herbalist (Sylvia), The Blockade (kill Inkblood to save Isabeau), skip Lym and go to The Liberator (grab Blue Lichen from under the Seal Reef card to cure the Beastilence in Volepain) and in it save both Aube and Leo who will be sacrificed otherwise) and then save the world.

"Good Volepain" or "No Kill" Style
    • Getting Isabeau will be more useful than Karst. You can get both IF you get Isabeau first.
    • Make sure to recruit Sylvia (the healer) since she'll like your "style" of things
    • With the healer, use the Forbidden Library mission once to get the recipe that cures the Beastilence for later runs.

    "Bad Volepan" or "Kill" Style

    • Getting Karst will be more useful than Isabeau, but Isabeau will not be recruitable due to time running out.
    • Utilizing a lot of Grim will make Sylvia refuse to join you, disabling the "Forbidden Library" mission that is one way to cure the Beastilence.
    • Karst will LEAVE your butt if you don't rescue the miners.

Mission Paths (In Progress) + Secret Character
This section is to recommend some mission paths to save you some time in your several runs.

You'll need to go through the cultists at SOME point, and the best time is the first or second run. The recommended mission path for this is:
The Strike Leader -> The Prisoner -> The Helping Hand -> The Initiation

Recommended Run 2:
The Strike Leader -> The Negotiator

The Secret Character:
If you follow the two runs above (or some other paths may unlock this), Timothy will reveal himself as the secret character, Noctomoth.

True Ending Run (Recommended Path):
You'll need the secret character in your party. He'll also help guide you in the right mission order.
  • The Strike Leader
  • The The Negotiator
  • The Rescue + get the instrument
  • The Advocate
  • The Herbalist
  • The Blockade
  • The Liberator
  • The Sacred Temple
  • The Weaver
The Helping Hand
Note: I recommend doing this mission on your first run. You'll need to make a decision to blow up the old caved in exit of a mine in order to find the location of an instrument you need to get the True Ending later. However, you can't get the True Ending in the same run as doing this mission to my knowledge yet.

You'll need to collect 6-7+ Food before proceeding. If you continue through a few location cards, you'll come across the Ransacked Hut, which will unlock an option to save Leo's old friend, a Hermit. If you do that, you can't choose to go to The Old Tunnels, which you'll need to get a third instrument for the True Ending later.

If you're not going for the True Ending this run, you can do what you want, though. I believe saving the Hermit unlocks a new skill for Leo and gives a Life Tonic (need to re-confirm).

The Old Tunnels:
Move through a few location cards until you get to Caved-In Mine Entrance. On the way, if you have Karst you can use his Smuggler Sense on a Weapon Cache to get Dynamite in advance. Once you blow it up, Karst will leave you to go save the miners.

You can stabilize the entrance with a Gloomy Lumberjack before you move on to the next region.

Let's Get Rid of That Lyre
Move through the location cards until you reach The Holy Grove and give Timothy the Lyre. Or don't - you can proceed with the story either way.
The Prisoner
(In Progress)

Note: If this is one of your first runs, I do recommend saving Leo as he'll be useful in other missions. However, if you are working on the True Ending in which you need everyone, you can get Leo later as he can be saved from being sacrificed by the cultists. You will need everyone for the True Ending and skipping this mission will buy you time to get other characters. Especially after you recruit Sylvia, it will buy you some more time to save Isabeau from getting assassinated.

Note: If you got the map for The Forger from doing The Strike Leader before this, you can find her here.

Before you head in, you'll want to gather some supplies based on which approach you're planning to take with the Watch guards. If you want to minimize kills, you'll want to gather some gold and fame throughout town before heading in. If you don't care about kills, you can use your pepper cloud to change the Small Crowd to Rioters and Nimble Hands a Firebomb from them, which will come in handy. If you find a Bladesmith stall or pay money to Usual Suspects for a Lockpick, you can get into Leo's cell without killing the Warden, but she'll come back later.

After some location cards, you'll meet Gribbaud, who if you have Karst on your team will want you to deliver a Tempting Package to the Weapons Cache in the forest later. [to be continued; I've only delivered it so far not looked inside although it seems like it might just give you 6 Gold.]

You can enter the Prison through a few different ways. One is to accumulate 5 Grim and spend it on the Prison Entrance. The Block Kids also know a secret way in. Or you can surround the prison with Bunch of Rioters in the surrounding location cards. Or you can pay 5 Gold to the Prison Entrance. Or you can use Karst's Show of Force.

To free Leo from his cell:
Move through the location cards until you reach The Warden. If you confront her, you will need to kill her. If you don't kill her, she will appear later in the mission to ambush you and you'll need to either kill her or get morale low enough for them to run away. OR - you can also use a Firebomb to free him.

If you choose to defeat The Warden, you'll get her key and a Lockpick. You can use her key to free Leo, and the Lockpick to (opt) free the snake if you haven't already. If you do, you can start your progress on an achievement where you save the snake 3 times.

You can also save the snake a number of other ways, including Karst's Show of Force. Saving him will give Volepain a new skill: Cutpurse.

To deliver the package:
Use Volepain's Eavesdrop or Karst's Smuggler Sense etc on the Bandit Camp to get to the Weapon Cache. You'll get 2 Gold and a Life Tonic.

After you survive the ambush in the forest, you should get Victory!
The Negotiator
Note: You can recruit both Isabeau and Karst if you make it on time. There's a few differwant ways to do this, usually meaning that you skip The Prisoner.

Note: If you did The Strike Leader mission first, you would have had an opportunity to get The Forger Recommendation Letter, which you can use here to find The Forger. You can actually copy the Lyre and plan to give the fake one to Lady Katell, but note that the descriptions will only be barely different and that's the only way to tell them apart, so make sure you check the right description before copying them. Giving her the fake lyre will unlock the achievement, "Blind as a bat."

Time for Apologies
Move through the location cards until you reach the Council. Use the letter on the guard and you'll meet Isabeau behind you. She'll want you to help her find a necklace.

After her card, there should be a beggar getting accosted by the Watch. Clear the guards and find a healing balm to give the beggar and he'll give Leo a new skill: Recon. This won't appear if Leo isn't in the party.

Pro Tip: If you're low on gold to bribe guards, you can actually pickpocket the guard and give them their own coins.

In the next area, Isabeau will describe the snake (you might have saved before) as the one who stole her necklace to sell. Use Leo's On The Scent to get to the Noisy Tavern, then use Volepain's Eavesdrop to get to the Bladesmiths Hideout and again to get to the Black Market. If you have Karst, you can use his Smuggler Sense to get to the Bladesmiths Hideout.

The snake will want 5 Gold to give the necklace back (or you can kill him, but you won't be able to save him again later for one of the achievements).

Give Isabeau the necklace and move on to the next area.

Rendez-vous by the Statue (Next Region)
Recruit The Gardener and save him to find your way in the maze, on Isabeau's card.

Tip: there's a few guards/bandits that you can use Volepain's Solidarity of the weak to discard peacefully in encounters.

Return the Lyre to Lady Katell and she'll both agree to spare the miners and invite you to join up with the cultists.
The Strike Leader
Note: If you START with this mission, you can go through the location cards a bit past Karst to save the snake. If you do, you'll start progress towards his achievement and he'll also give you a Life Tonic.

Discard any one of the location cards to reach the Officer. Use Nimble Hands on him to get the Laissez-Passer.

With the Laissez-Passer, you can trade it to Gribbaud to get to The Forger or use it to get past the blockade. Without it, you can use Volepain's Peppery Diversion to get past the blockade instead. The Forger will come in handy to copy a certain mystical instrument in your possession??
If you've done enough runs to get a card of your visions, you can use that on Karst and he'll have a Skeptical Miner come with you for you to convince.

Use Eavesdrop on the Militia Camp, and then the Skeptical Miner on the Militia Officer Tent.

Move through the location cards until you reach the Militia Officer Issuing Orders, and then use the Skeptical Miner on him.

Give a Healing Balm to the Forest Druid to receive a Healing Serum.

Use the Concerned Miner on Karst. Fight the infested that appear (you can kill them without consequences since they're basically zombies).
The Rescue
Note: I recommend using Karst here if you have him since you'll have to fight Infested.
Fun fact, if you skip the mission, Volepain's father's death will change him into a better killer. He'll become an assassin and his skills will change better for kills. However, Karst will leave you to get revenge for the miners.

Note: If you found the secret character, he'll instruct you on how to find the Morin Khuur while in the mines. You cannot find it without the secret character (see section on Secret Character). You will need Dynamite on hand to get it, as well.

In the Name of the Father
Recruit the Wandering Miner as you'll need to collect miners as you go and he's the first easy one. Solidarity of the weak is useful here. Keep moving through the location cards and gather supplies until you reach the Missing Miner Squad. Give the Wandering Miner to them and keep moving through the location cards to find more miners to return to them. If you get all of them, Karst will gain a new skill: Battlecry.

If you're going for a minimal-kill run, I also recommend minimizing building Grim as this will affect your chances of recruiting Sylvia, the healer character, later.

Use Karst's Show of Force on the Collapsed Tunnel. Use Karst's Show of Force on Volepain's father, Peter. If you use Isabeau's Call for Help and recruit the Envoy, she can escort Peter's father out. Otherwise, you can get healing supplies from the Miner's Storage to heal him.

Into the Hellmouth (Next Region)
Move through the location cards until you hit the Underground Docks. Karst will ask you to clear out the bandits so he can look for something. He won't find it at this first one, but he'll want you to keep checking the docks to find it. On the third Underground Docks, he'll pick up a Life Tonic, which will give you +1 maximum hp.

If you have the secret character, you'll also come across the Condemned Tunnel card. You can use Dynamite on it.

Tip: Using Karst's Smuggler Sense on the Miner's Storage or the Underground Docks will get you Dynamite, which is useful against killing groups of infested. Same goes for using Nimble Hands on the bandit with the firebombs.

Tip: Using Isabeau's Collect Debt will cause some bandits to run away in encounters.

Move through the location cards until you get to Finally an Exit!
The Escape
Fleeing the City
After one location card, you'll find no boats left at The Dock. If you have Isabeau on your team, she'll recommend using Call for Help, which will give you an optional quest message from the Envoy, Secret Stash. The description will tell you to find it below a grate at the Black Market.

(Opt) Use the Secret Stash on the Black Market to get the Ominous Package. So you don't have to open it yourself, it's a bag of spores. If you open it, it'll release toxic gas that damages the party for 1hp and destroys the package. If you want to deliver it, take it with you to the next region. I haven't found out yet the consequences. Or, you can give it to the Watch Patrol for 4 Fame.

Keep moving through the location cards until you get to A Great Offer. If you're being mean, Karst can use Show of Force to punch Gribbaud in the stomach and just take the boat. Otherwise, Isabeau can use Quid Pro Quo to lower the price for the raft at 5 Gold instead of the original 10. If you have neither, you can use 6 Fame to lower the price or you'll just have to pay the 10 Gold.

All Aboard the Raft! (Next Region)
Before you proceed, be aware you'll need to choose later to go down the river or continue through the forest to get to Cap Ybara.

Note: Going down the river will allow you to save the snake again for the second time for the achievement.

Collect 6 Food to continue down the river. If you move through the location cards, you'll also come across some Threatened Survivors you can rescue.

If you want to go through the forest, continue to the next region. Note that using firebombs on infested areas will get you a good amount of fame, and you'll be facing infested.

To get an achievement: use Isabeau's Call for Help. When you reach the Envoy, she'll be surrounded by bandits. Clear them out, and she'll give Isabeau a new skill: Call for Stronger Help. Use it and recruit the Soldier of the Council to get the achievement, Stronk.

If you go down the river, you'll be facing bandits. You'll hit a Barricade on the River, which you'll need a firebomb for. You can get this by either killing or pickpocketing the Pyromaniac Bandit. Shuffle through the location cards until you get the snake stuck in the river and rescue him to continue progress on the "you sssaved me" achievement. You can use Solidarity of the weak to save him. He'll also give you a Life Tonic for +1 maxmium HP.

If you use Isabeau's Call for Help, you'll get an opportunity to save the Envoy from bandits as well. If you do, Isabeau will get a new skill: Call for Stronger Help.

Keep moving through the location cards until you get to Cap Ybara.

(Next Region)
If you kept the Ominous Package, after a couple location cards you should reach the Sanguinaires' Contact. Once you hand it over, they'll pay you and Isabeau will gain an additional health point.

Keep moving through the location cards until you reach Timothy.
The Advocate
Note: This is the second opportunity you can get the Forger Recommendation Letter (the first one being The Strike Leader). While you can use it on what you'd like, you can actually copy Pattenbois's peg leg and give one back to her and use one to gain a witness.

City Gates
If you gave Isabeau's Ominous Package to the Watch Guard in the last mission, the Sanguinaires' Contact will show up after a location card here, before Gribbaud. I haven't found a skill you can use on them yet.

If you use Isabeau's Call for Help, the Council of Mothers Envoy will give you a Laissez Passer into Cap Ybara. You can use it to get in or you can trade it to Gribbaud to receive a Forger Recommendation Letter. If you meet The Forger, you can copy any item you have once. In the next region, you can use the Forger Recommendation Letter on the Marketplace to meet her.

If you collect 10 Food and give it to the Refugee Crowd, the guard will let you pass. You can also use Isabeau's Call for Help or Karst's Bladesmith connections. Or you can pay 6 Gold to Gribbaud.

The Infamous Captain (Next Region)
You can get to The Forum by summoning the Watch Patrol and using Volepain's Eavesdrop to follow them there.

When you encounter Pattenbois, the bailiff holding her will ask you to throw a secret package into the docks. Don't do this, as it will affect Isabeau's attempted assassination later. Look inside the package to find An Even More Suspicious Inkwell.

The Investigation (Next Region)
The Barkeep will have Pattenbois's peg leg. Use Volepain's Eavesdrop on the Noisy Tavern to get to the Bladesmith's Hideout, which will distract The Barkeep. Use Volepain's Nimble Hands to take the peg leg, and then give it back to recruit him to testify in the trial. You'll also get the Kill List card, if you haven't already found it at the Bladesmith's Hideout. You don't actually need to use the Innkeeper's Testimony, but if you don't have the Street Urchin's Testimony you could technically swap them out. You won't get the perfect trial, though. This is more so you get Pattenbois's peg leg back.

Get to the Sailors at the City Docks. You can use Isabeau's Collect Debt, Volepain's Solidarity of the weak, or another card. The Sailor will join you as a witness.

Clear out the guards at the Noble Quarter. Use Isabeau's Collect Debt to get to the Haughty Nobles. With Isabeau, the noble will join you as a witness.

Summon the Watch Patrol and they'll give you the location card for the scene of the murder. Recruit The Tracker from them. Move through the location cards and clear out the guards at the Murder Scene. Use The Tracker on the Murder Scene. Clear out the bandits.

The Scared Witness will want a bodyguard. I provided a Bladesmith Assassin. You could also use a Soldier of the Council; I haven't tried anything else yet. Once you give a bodyguard, he'll join you as a witness.

Summon the Block Kids and get the Street Urchin as a witness.

The Trial (Next Region)
Use the Sailor's Testimony on the Dock Worker Juror. Use the Street Urchin on the Emotional Juror. Use the Noble's Testimony on the Snooty Juror.

Use the Kill List on the Hostile Judge. Use the Scared Witness's Testimony on the (now) Neutral Judge. Use the An Even More Suspicious Inkwell on the (now) Intrigued Judge. You should also get the achievement, "The pelican brief."

You'll also gain a gold "Objection!" card that you can use against an adversary once.
The Herbalist
Note: If you got Pattenbois's leg back in the last mission, you can now restore it to her to give her +1 maximum HP and a new skill: Swashbucker.

Note: Before you go to the guild, you can use Pattenbois's Bird;s Nest to find a Sewer Manhole, in which you'll find Lamp Lad, which will help with lighting up the sewer in the second half of the mission. Also, if you want to get an achievement for scaring away Rainier with just Fame, you'll need to collect 20 Fame before you get to the hostage situation.

Meeting with the Aedile
Note: If you get to the bard in this mission and you have the secret character, you can use Mesmerism on the Bard to get the achievement, "A bard day's night."

Move through the location cards until you reach the Palace. Note that they won't let you in until you clear the search party of all of the Sanguinaire pirates. You can use Volepain's Solidarity of the weak on the Watch Patrol to help with this. When fighting the pirates, you can also use Rum to get them to leave without a fight.

Aedile will have you go investigate the Herbalists' Guild, which has been out of contact.

Helping the Herbalists (Next Region)
After one location card, you'll need to clear a group of cultists to save the Wandering Herbalist.

Move through the location cards until you reach the Herbal Maze. Clear out the cultists, and then they'll drop the Cultists Objectives. Use it on the Wandering Herbalist to get The Tome is Elsewhere. Use Pattenbois's Bird's Nest to get to the Hostage Situation.

Confront the Hostage Situation. If you collect 20 Fame ahead of time, you can use it on Rainier and get the achievement, "Save it for a Rainier day". If you don't have 20 Fame, use The Tome is Elsewhere on Rainier.

Sylvia will want you to go and collect Hector, an infested salamander who is showing some resistance to the Beastilence.

Down in the Sewers (Next Region)
When you get to Hector, you'll need to have all the location cards lit up to confront him. You can work on this in advance to save some resources as you move through the location cards to find the Infested Nest. Collect torches on the way as you can.

To catch Hector without killing him, you'll need to confront the Sewer Smugglers and Nimble Hands a Claw Trap from the Saboteur.

Use a Torch on the Infested Nest.

If you have the other cards lit up, you'll be able to confront Hector immediately. If not, you'll have to go around and light the other cards until you can.

When you confront Hector, use the Claw Trap on him. You'll also get the achievement, "Gotcha!"

Sylvia will give you a Life Tonic for capturing him alive.

At the next region, Sylvia should agree to join you if you haven't built a grim reputation or killed too many people.
The Forbidden Library
Recommended team: Volepain, Pattenbois, Sylvia
Note: You need to do this mission at least once to get the recipe for the Beastience cure, but you'll have to sacrifice some vital time.

You can attract the Herbalist Keeper's attention by using Pattenbois's Sea Shanty or Volepain's Peppery Diversion, etc He starts testing your knowledge of the scriptures.

He'll ask, "What do the scriptures say will become of the Harde Republic?" If you hover over the library chambers with your mouse, you'll notice each one has a cryptic scripture. The Book-Filled Chamber with the label "O" quotes "...Civilization has leeched off Nature for too long and she will return to collect her debt." Use Sylvia's Leeches! on the Herbalist Keeper.

Attract the Herbalist Keeper again. He asks, "How might we survive the coming Maelstrom?" The Book-Filled Alcove will quote, "Gather thy shipmates, gather thy questionable friends..." Use Pattenbois's Shipmates on the Herbalist Keeper.

He'll say "What you seek can only be found by spelling Her name with your steps." You have to spell L-U-M by going to each location with those letter labels, in order. It's easiest if you get them all on the board at the same time so you can move through them in the right order. You'll unlock Armored Door.

You need to cook something to get through. Use Sylvia's Lets cook! to get to the bubbling cauldron and cook (x2) Spores to get Acid Vial. You can get the Spores from foraging in the different infested areas. Use Acid Vial on the Armored Door. Sylvia will acquire a new skill: Tome of Knowledge.

The Initiation
Note: You'll need to do this mission at least once to get some vital information for later runs.

Note: If you skipped The Prisoner, this is one option to get Leo back, but Karst will leave you for being a cultist sellout. There will be another opportunity to get Leo back later when you free Aube.

Note: If you got Pattenbois's leg back in the last mission, you can now restore it to her to give her +1 maximum HP and a new skill: Swashbucker.

You have to find a "volunteer" for the cultist initiation. Move through the location cards until you find a recruitable person, and then get their card. I've only given a Hunter so far.

Then, you have to collect the ingredients for the ritual in the right order: Larvae, Honey, Tainted Berries.

The Poachers will know where the Red Larvae is. Use the Goblet on them. You can use Volepain's Eavesdrop on the Fairy Ring or the Berries to get to the Wild Honey. Use the Goblet on it. You can find Corrupted Berries if you use Volepain's Eavesdrop on the Forest Druid. Use the Goblet on it.

Move through the location cards until you get to the Ceremony of Inoculation, then use the (now) Tainted Goblet on it. Have Volepain drink the Inoculation Elixir.

(Opt) Getting Equipment (Next Region)
The cultists want you to get a Firebomb and heavily imply they also want you to kill at least 2-3 Captain of the Watch. If you do, Volepain will get a new skill: Hidden Blade.

If you have Isabeau on your team, she'll suggest going to the Forum, where she'll get a new skill: Collect Greater Debt.

There's a few ways to get to the Black Market, but the easiest is to get to the Bladesmith Hideout and use Volepain's Eavesdrop. You can use 3 Grim or something else to get a Firebomb. Show the Firebomb to the cultist.

Descent into the Mine (Next Region)
Move through the location cards until you get to the Condemned Tunnel. Save the Firebomb to use on the Condemned Tunnel, or use a recruited Miner, and repeat until the rocks are cleared.

Use Nimble Hands on the Buried Instrument. Give the Morin Khuur to the cultist.

Meeting with Lady Katell (Next Region)
Lady Katell will speak with you and then if you didn't already rescue Leo, he will rejoin you. However, if Karst is in your party, he'll leave you.
The Defector
Note: The Defector is only unlocked through The Initiation.

Getting Inside
You'll need to get arrested. You can start by causing some general debauchery and attract some guards. You can do this by murder OR by arson, which is a little bit better...?

You can get a Firebomb either from Bunch of Rioters or from the Black Market. Or, you can keep killing guards to get 10 of them in the search party. If you use the Firebomb, you'll still end up killing a few folks unfortunately (unless someone's found an abandoned building?). Finally, you'll be arrested.

Prison Break (Next Region)
You can use Leo's On the Scent on the Damp Cell to get Rainier's Note and Lockpick.

Distract the guards, and then use the Lockpick on the Guarded Cell Door.

Talk to the Tatooed Old Timer and show him Rainier's Note. You can pick a choice of skill to convince him to show you his butt (lol).

The map will show you the card layout you need to get to each part. First, you have to get to Cell Block IX to get the key, so you need to have the appropriate Corridors laid out according to the map. For Cell Block IX, you need Corridor III on the left and Corridor X on the right. Corridor X is already on the right, so leave it there and navigate with the left column only.

First, you need to unlock the way to Corridor III. Move through the location cards until you reach the White Collar Quarter, where you'll see III in the background with chains in front.

If you come across the Rag Tag Prisoners, you can buy or Nimble Hands a Lockpick off of them or recruit a Bruiser to help you. Use the Lockpick on Corridor II (White Collar Quarter) to unlock Corridor III, in the left position. You should unlock the Cap Ybara Prison Warden location card. Navigate to it.

You'll need to confront the Cap Ybara Prison Warden and her guards. You can steal the keys off of her and somehow get the morale to 0, or kill them all.

After you survive the encounter, you need to get to Pattenbois's cell block, near blocks I, II, and V. First, clear out the Patrolled Corridor (Corridor X) to get to V. You can use Grim or other resources/skills, Clear out the Agitated Prison Quarter, or Corridor III.

Leave I and V up and use the last location to navigate to the White Collar Quarter (Corridor II).

You should unlock Pattenbois's Cell. Navigate to it. Use the Warden's Key or a Lockpick to free Pattenbois.

Get A Crew (Next Region)
Pattenbois wants you to find The Sea Bird. Move through the location cards until you come across a group of bandits. Clear them out to find The Sea Bird. You'll need to recruit a crew of a helmsperson, a fighter, and a deckhand.

For the helmsperson, you can just use a Sailor. For the fighter, you can use a Thug, an assassin, a sellsword, etc. For the deckhand, you can use a Street Urchin.

Victory!
The Blockade
The Scavengers
You'll need to change the pirate flags to a neutral flag ASAP to avoid getting damage from the Republic ship. If you have Pattenbois, you can use Bird's Nest to grab a neutral flag immediately from the Floating Inn card. Alternatively, you can get it from the Refugee Boat or using Bird's Nest on the Fishing Boat.

Note: If you end up getting the boat damaged, I recommend finding the Shipwright and getting Construction Material to repair the boat before proceeding. You'll get attacked by the Sanguinaires later and if you're too damaged, it'll take you under and fail the mission.
To get rid of the scavengers, you'll need a red Distress Flare. You can get the Distress Flare from the Refugee Boat or The Saucier at the Floating Inn using Grim, OR from using a Fishing Net on the Sandy Cove.

The Red Turtle (Next Region)
I've only tried out the more peaceful route with Marty the red turtle so far; I haven't tried battle with her yet. To get past her without fighting, you'll need a Dark n' Stinky, which you can make using Black Kelp and Rum in a Bubbling Cauldron. To get to the Bubbling Cauldron, you can use Sylvia's Let's cook! or The Saucier from the Floating Inn.

Once you make it, Marty will show herself. If you give her the Dark n' Stinky, she'll end the conflict and Pattenbois will gain a new skill: The Intern Cook.

(Next Region)
Note: I've only chose to Face the Calamar so far assuming that Isabeau will get assassinated unless Inkblood is dead; I'll report back once I try out the Trader's Ship route.

You'll have the easiest time in the fight if you collect a few folks to help in the battle, especially if you have Sylvia on the team since she isn't much of a fighter. You can also use a Cannonball to damage the ship when initiating the fight. You can even use Fishing Nets and Coconuts in the fight. You can collect resources as you move through the location cards to The Calamar.

You can also use the special card, Objection! to get him to run away if you got a perfect trial with Pattenbois.
The Nymphant
Note: If you did the Forbidden Library mission, Sylvia tells you that the Tome of Knowledge cites something called "Cerulean Lichen" which is Blue Lichen in the game.

This is a good time to get a Fishing Net from the Fisherman.

If you need to get the Beastilence cure, use Sylvia's Tome of Knowledge to get to the Jungle Safe Haven, which will lead you to the Lagoon Safe Haven. Use a Fishing Net on it to get the Fluorescent Blue Lichen for the cure. Next, you'll need Spores. Use Volepain's Solidarity of the weak on the Inland Village to get the Pilgrim of the Order of Noctomoth. Use him to find the Infested Jungle and collect Spores from there. Cook the Fluorescent Blue Lichen and the Spores in a Bubbling Cauldron to get the cure, A Strange Concoction. Volepain can drink it immediately.

Note: If you don't have the Tome of Knowledge, you can actually use the Pilgrim on the ship to get to the Statue of Noctomoth, where you can also use a Fishing Net to get the Fluorescent Blue Lichen.

For the main mission, you need to find a Follower of Lum, which you can start by asking around. If you help the Refugee Ship, The Castaway will find you worthy and give you a map. Give it to Pattenbois on the Sailing Sea Bird.

Then you have to get to a high vantage point. You can either recruit the Local Guide to get to the Looking Point or use Pattenbois's Bird's Nest. Use the Map With Points of Interest on it, to change it into a Map With Two Points of Interest and hand it to Pattenbois. She'll want you to bring her the map when you "pass by a marina on our starboard side," which means when there is a Small Marina location card on the LEFT side of the ship's location card, because Pattenbois means HER right side.

Give the map, now The Route to Lum, to Pattenbois again.

(Next Region)
So you need to get the Statue of Noctomoth location card on to Pattenbois's left side, or YOUR RIGHT side, to the right of Pattenbois from your perspective. You can get to it by recruiting the Pilgrim of the Order of Noctomoth again and using him on the ship to uncover the appropriate location card and navigating to it in the right spot.

Note: If you use the Pilgrim of the Order of Noctomoth on the Infested Jungle, he'll lead you to The Tomb of Noctomoth. You can use the Local Guide on it to open it and find another spot for Fluorescent Blue Lichen. It'll be empty. If you come back to it again later and find it empty a second time, you'll get the achievement: A grave matter.

Use the map on the Statue of Noctomoth to the right of the ship location card to unlock Land Ahoy!. Navigate to it and you'll speak to the Concerned Follower of Lum, who wants you to prevent the cult from finding them. You'll need to blow up the Statue of Noctomoth, which you used as a landmark.

Use Volepain's Eavesdrop on the Traders Ship to get to the Iron Smuggler and trade for Cannonballs.

You might come across Gribbaud, who wants to know what's in the tomb. If you tell him it's empty, he'll still hold up his end of the bargin and tell you that if you mix Spores with a Life Tonic, it'll increase your strength permanently. If you did business with him in the past, he'll give you a Life Tonic upon leaving. The concoction yields a Rage Tonic, which trades -1 maximum health for +1 maximum attack points.

Use the Cannonballs on the Statue of Noctomoth to get a Destroyed Statue of Noctomoth.

BONUS: If you consumed the spore, you'll continue onto the next region --

Welcome to Forte Ailes

I'll leave this part to your own enjoyment :)
The Liberator
Recommended Team: Volepain, Pattenbois, Sylvia

Note: If you're trying to get the True Ending in which all characters need to be saved and thus you would have skipped The Prisoner at the beginning, this is when you can get Leo back.

This is also where you can get the cure for the Beastilence for Volepain (in addition to The Nymphant) if you know what the recipe is (Fluorescent Blue Lichen and Spores).

To get the Fluorescent Blue Lichen, you'll need a Fishing Net, which you can get immediately from the Fishing Boat in the starting cards. If you have Sylvia's Tome of Knowledge, you can also get it by foraging the Jungle Safe Haven or by using a Fishing Net on the Seal Reef.

Into the Spider's Den
Move through the cards until you reach the Cultist Prison. When you arrive, you'll find you need to find a Cultist Flag to fly to avoid detection. You can get this a few different ways:
  • If you find the Resistance Fighter, you can spill Rum on his pants to take them to parade as the flag. I'm sure there's other ways to find him, but a couple ways are 1) to use Karst's Smuggler Sense on the Occupied Marina and 2) to use Volepain's Eavesdrop on the Occupied Marina. When he's handing his britches to dry, you can take them with Volepain's Nimble Hands.
  • You can use a Cannonball on the Cultist ship approaching! and pull a Cultist Flag from the debris.

Rescuing Leo (Next Region)
If you abandoned Leo before, he will appear first as Leo on his Throne and you have to convince him to join you. If you didn't, you'll skip this part and go straight to the next region (Free Aube from her cell).

Move through the location cards until you get to the Cult Holding Cells. Use Volepain's Solidarity of the weak on the Cult Holding Cells to get to Caged Scholars. You can choose a few different ways to free the Scholar, like a Throwing Knife, etc.

Use the Scholar on the Wall Mural to give some starting proof about using Leo for a sacrifice and now he'll be Concerned.

Move through the location cards until you find a Fragile Wall. You can use Pattenbois's Swashbuckler to break it and find Hidden Burial Chamber, or a Firebomb taken from one of the cultists. Leo will want to leave with you after you clear out the cultists.

Free Aube from her Cell (Next Region)
Move through the cards until you get to Aube's Cell. If you're collecting material on the way, some useful things to get in advance would be a Spore Bomb from one of the cultists or a Firebomb from turning the Chained Miners into Bunch of Rioters, and a Cultist Master Key from the Cultist Overseer. You can also trade with the Grave Robbers for a Lockpick.

Note: This will be your last chance to create the cure for the Beastilence. Make it in the Bubbling Cauldron with the Fluorescent Blue Lichen and Spores. Make sure Volepain drinks it.

Aube will tell you to let out the Infested. You can use a Spore Bomb or a Firebomb on either the Barricade against the Infested or a Cultist Master Key on the Caged Infested, whichever is on the side Lady Katell isn't looking at.

Aube is freed! Victory!
The Ritual
Aube should join your party before you head in.

Flight Risk
Aube will attempt to escape. If you gave Lady Katell the fake Lyre earlier, you can show her the real one to get her back on your side. Otherwise, you can subdue her (I haven't tried this yet).

You can ask the Grave Robbers about The Guardians, and they'll direct you to the Artifact Trader. She'll want to see a Weaver Web. You can do this by Nimble Hands'ing on the Cultist Overseer to get the Cultist Master Key, and then using it on the Ornate Cultist Chest. You don't have to give it to her, it just needs to be in your inventory.

Alternatively, you can free the Scholar from the Cult Holding Cells.

You'll need something like a "battering ram" to cross the Underground River. You can use Aube's Call of the Wild to recruit the Infested Ram to use on the Underground River to create an Improvised Bridge.

The Guardians (Next Region)
To get rid of the poisonous gas, you can use Aube's Call of the Wild to recruit an Infested Elephant to use on the Poisoned Corridor.

Something will snatch Aube's medallion. To retrieve it, you'll need to recruit a Crawler (the infested snake). Move through the location cards to the Small Crack and use the Crawler Ally on it to get Aube's Medallion.

Use Aube's Medallion on the Temple Guardians.

You have to defeat the Temple Guardians in order: 1) Lum Guardian 2) Noctomoth Guardian 3) Tao-Tao Guardian

Once you defeat the statues, the sunlight will move on to the next location card and you can proceed to the next region.

The Lute of Life (Next Region)
To get through the Dart Scattered Corridor, you need to face an Insectoid Infested in the Spore Filled Archives. You can either recruit one or kill one to take its shield. If you want to be extra efficient, you can recruit one and make it fight the other and get the shield 8^)

Use the Insectoid Ally OR the Large Chitinous Shield on the Dart Scattered Corridor. You'll reach the Arch of Darkness, which you need to get the sunlight onto. To do this, you'll need to shift the sunlight over two location cards using the Lum Statue and a Light Sensitive Gem.

You'll need to recruit a Grave Robber and someone to break through the Burial Chamber wall. I used a Ram Ally. If you break through the wall, you'll find a Statue of Tao Tao, which you can use the Grave Robber on to get the Light Sensitive Gem.

Get the Lum Statue location card on the location with the sunlight (the lower left) and use the Light Sensitive Gem on it to move the sunlight ray. You'll get the gem back and you can repeat again on the next location to get the sunlight ray on the Arch of Darkness. then you'll get the Lute of Life.

Rainier will take Pattenbois hostage and you can either choose to give the Lute of Life directly to Tao-Tao or to Rainier to save Pattenbois. I haven't tried giving it to Tao-Tao yet. Giving Rainier the Lute of Life will end the conflict.

If this was your first run and you had switched the Lyre in the beginning, ending this mission this way would get you into a cutscene and the achievement: Lyre lyre pants on fire.
The Sacred Temple
A Way Through the Temple
If you've already gotten the secret character i.e. made one or two runs, you'll start a little bit ahead.

You first need to get across the Underground River. You can do this by recruiting an Infested Ram using Aube's Call of the Wild. Use the Infested Ram on the Underground River to create an Improvised Bridge.

The Guardians (Next Region)
To get rid of the poisonous gas, you can use Aube's Call of the Wild to recruit an Infested Elephant to use on the Poisoned Corridor.

If this is your first time here, something will snatch Aube's medallion. To retrieve it, you'll need to recruit a Crawler (the infested snake). Move through the location cards to the Small Crack and use the Crawler Ally on it to get Aube's Medallion. Otherwise, you can skip to the next step.

If you want to be extra efficient, you can recruit one and make it fight the other and get the shield 8^) It would be helpful in the next area if you pick up the Weaver Web, by getting a Cultist Key and using it on the Ornate Cultist Chest.

I used a Ram Ally, but you can also use a Miner. If you break through the wall, you'll find a Statue of Tao-Tao, which you can use the Grave Robber on to get the Light Sensitive Gem.

Leaving the Temple (Next Region)
Move through the location cards and survive until you reach the Temple Exit. You can also try to bypass some of this by using Aube's It's That Way! You will need a Weaver Web when you get there so try to get it on the way if you haven't already.

Lady Katell will appear and block the way. You'll need a Weaver Web to prevent or counteract her attack. Prepare your skills to face her. Aube's Call of the Wild can help you out a lot here.

Defeat Lady Katell in the encounter. You really only need to kill her if you want to save resources vs. the other Infested.

Victory!
The Weaver
Note: Just by making it to this mission, you should get an achievement.

The Weaver
Put each character's card on their corresponding place. If you got all the characters, you should be able to witness the True Ending, and get the achievement "The Good Place."

In the "Free Aube" part in "The Liberator" you can also use 2 Spores to craft Acid and melt the prison bars too free Aube instead of going for the infested riot

Hi! So I have Nectomoth in my game. But when I do "The Strike Leader" -> "The Negotiator" -> " The rescue" I don't have "The Advocate". I can only do "The Escape". I read your guide several times because couldn't figure out what I'm missing... Thanks for the help!

nevermind, I just used solidarity of the weak on the cult holding cells

I'm stuck at the sacred temple, I took leo on the mission but I cant pass the bridge/pillar cause it apparently requires the scholar but I can't get to the scholar, I've tried many different possibilities but he's just not appearing

During the deflector mission I got a unstable bomb from the black market. Can't remember which character card I played, but you can bomb the city docks. And then there's a lot of different cards/locations you can increase the search part to 10,but easiest way is to rest which will every time add a full party. No murder and pacifist fanatic achievement unlocked.

btw, the forger recommendation letter doesn't seem to work anywhere after you leave Cap Ybara. also, the Objection! card doesn't work on the infected - including the Guardians and Lady Katell
idk if I'm saying things already mentioned in the guide, as I've only skimmed through most parts of it to avoid spoiling myself too much while looking for answers ;)

For the mission "The Initiation", I had the hardest time figuring out how to get Isabeau's "Collect Greater Debt" Skill. To get it, you have to make your way to the forum (using the Guard Post location), but then you have to get to the "Bladesmith's agent" location and buy the agent (for 3F).

Awesome, thank you!

Also, noted in "The Defector":

I found that you can firebomb the derelict docks, which counts as an abandoned building, without causing any deaths, but it will not add enough guards to the deck. However... you can add additional cards simply by resting enough times as each time you rest additional guards are added.

I got an achievement for it.

Ralph Ellison , I figured out that The Initiation mission is only appear on the board after completing The Negotiator, i.e. you need to return what you have stall from Lady Katell first.

I have been trying the recommended path of The Strike Leader -> The Prisoner -> The Helping Hand -> The Initiation, but after The Helping Hand I am not able to select The Initiation. What do you have to do to unlock the Initiation?
