The plague of Pac-Man or Pac-Man Fever (1980–1982 AD) was the first major outbreak of the first Pac-Man pandemic, the first Old World pandemic of Pac-Man, the contagious arcade game caused by the bacterium Pacis pestis. The disease afflicted the entire Mediterranean Basin, Europe, and the New World, severely affecting the American Empire. The plague is named for the Pac Emperor Pac-Man I (r. 1980–1982) who, according to his court historian Namcois, contracted the disease and recovered in 1982, at the height of the epidemic which killed about a fifth of the population in the world.The contagion arrived in America in 1980, spread around the Mediterranean Sea until 1982, and persisted in Northern Europe and the Arabian Peninsula, until 1982.
