Achievment: "Game, Set, Match" Fort Condor RTS game basics (Yuffie DLC)
Από Punished Rusty Shackleford
After meeting with the "members of Avalanche" you will talk to Polk who will introduce you to the game "Fort Condor" which is a table top RTS (real time strategy) game you can challenge people around Midgar. Polk will set you up with the starter pack containing a Starter board and some base level units. When you win you will be awarded with additional units and Condor Coins you use to purchase units from "Old Snapper" (the guy dressed up like a turtle). As you beat opponents and level up, more items will be unlocked for purchase with him so check this regularly.

Fight them in the order listed because some unlockable units will help you in the next battle

Objective
The game is played by you spawning units on the board and the goal is to destroy the opponents bases (2 outposts, 1 HQ). To win you must destroy their HQ or have more bases left standing before the timer runs out. Units will automatically march forward (unless they are turrets) and attack the enemy.

Unit Costs
Each unit has an ATB cost required to place on the board. The ATB bar refills over time and is a the top of the screen. The speed of refill is determined on what board you use.

Once you've deployed a unit type onto the board, the unit card goes to the bottom of the queue and will be unable to be played until other units have been deployed and they go to the bottom of the queue. The wait time is usually 2 but it depends on what board you're using for that match. This is to prevent zerg rushes and this rule applies to both you and the CPU.

Untis will lose HP overtime regardless if they are being attacked or not. Just to prevent either you or the CPU from just stacking units.

Combat
Units are assigned one of three roles. Vanguard (sword icon), Ranged (crossbow icon) and Defense (shield icon). These roles determine what enemies a unit is effective against:
  • Vanguard (sword icon) units are effective against ranged units(crossbow icon)
  • Ranged (crossbow icon) units are effective against defense units (shield icon)
  • Defense (shield icon) units are effective against vanguard units (sword icon)
The units role is displayed above them and the advantages/disadvantages will be highlighted. You can view the diagram that will illustrate this relationship during the match

You can move the cursor anywhere within your own territory as far as your farthest unit has advanced. If you extend the front line deeper into the enemy territory to press the advantage. You cannot give orders to your units to attack. They will automatically asses it's surroundings and will attack on its own.

Materia Attacks
you can use certain materia during the match based on what game board you are using. There are circle icons listing what materia is used on that board. use the command prompt that it's assigned to and select the area you wish use the materia attack. they can only be used ONCE per battle so be sure you're using them wisely. magic works differently in that they don't deal elemental damage instead have a unique attack pattern. You can attack the opponents bases/HQ with materia attacks directly regardless of how far back the white line is (see Fog of War section).

Player Boards
The board you use determines the speed the ATB charges and the amount of unique units you can use in the game. Also it determines the types of materia attacks you can use during the match.

Fog of War
As your units march up, you'll see a white line progressively move forward as your lead unit is making their way to the opponents bases. You can deploy units anywhere behind this line. If your furthest most unit is destroyed, the white line will fall back to your next furtherst unit and pushing back your attack. Best to spawn units right at that line if you can in case the CPU spawns units infront of your marching unit.

This guide will help you get the achievement Game, Set, Match and NOT "Condor Queen". These load outs is what I used during my play through and what helped me win. It really depends on your ability to tactically plan out your moves. What I did was I'd have one side where I'd provoke them to send all their units to attack my main force while I sneakily sent units on the other side of the map to attack their forts. Also keep the offensive going if you're units are right at one of their bases but mind that the enemy isn't attacking yours.

  • Cutter- 3 Condor Coins
  • Helicopter - 3 Condor Coins
  • Sledgeworm - 3 Condor Coins
Junk Shop (note: if one of these items doesn't appear, that means you have to go fight a monster and comeback and it should populate. It's just how it's set up) This isn't the store where the guy always hits on Tifa. It's the one behind Seventh Heaven.
  • Security Officer Barracks - 100 Gil
  • Missile Launcher - 300 Gil
  • M.O.T.H. Unit - 500 Gil
Chests
  • Riot Trooper Barracks - Chest near wedges house.
  • Monodrive - Chest in the norther part of the Talagger Factory.
Look for the crates where the Stamp's picture is.Destroy the crates and the chest is behind those.
  • Sweeper - In section 3 of part 1 during the mission "Tracking Zhijie" in the first chapter. (this one isn't missable but it's a pain to backtrack through the huge factory, especially when you get to the end, there is no other way you can get back without walking all the way. It's on a side platform where you fight the Toxirats and the Wrath Hound (the white-ish big mutated dog)
Rank 1 - Kyrie - Normal Difficulty
Kyrie
Location: Near Cloud and Tifa's apartment
Reward: Elite Security Officer (Vanguard), Battalion Board, Condor Coin x2
Board: Starter Board
Notes: She charges you 3 Gil and then 10 Gil afterwards (because of course she would. this is the only challenger who does this. Other challengers do not charge anything and you can play for free)

(NOTE: Use your coins you won to buy new units at Old Snapper (turtle guy))
Rank 1 - Shinra Middle Manager - Normal Difficulty
Location: Across from Seventh Heaven
Reward: Elite Grenadier Reward (Ranged), Assassin Board I, Condor Coin x2
Board: Starter Board

Rank 1 - Johnny - Normal Difficulty
Location: In an alley in between the Middle Manager and Old Snapper
Reward: Elite Riot Trooper Reward (Defense) Sorcerer Board II, Condor Coin x2
Board: Starter Board

After you beat all Level 1 opponents check with Old Snapper for new boards and units to purchase. You can also re challenge each player again after you beat them all to get more coins.
Rank 2 - Jessie - Normal Difficulty
Jessie
Location: Porch of Seventh Heaven
Reward: Grenadier Barracks (Ranged), Assassin Board II, Condor Coin x2
Board: Assassin Board I

Rank 2 - Roche - Normal Difficulty
Location: Across from the factory standing by his big red motorcycle. You can't miss him because he has some amusing dialog when he's just standing around.
Reward: Elite Helitrooper (Vanguard), Battalion Board II, Condor Coin x3
Board: Sorcerer Board II

This is where it starts getting tough. He uses flying elite troopers/moon drives a lot. Make sure you purchased the sentry guns from Old Snapper since this unit can shoot at airborne units. Concentrate these on the center of the map near your bases for maximum protection. Also put Slug-Ray Facility behind your outpost so it can produce all it can.

After you rank up to level 3, visit Old Snapper and purchase new units and boards after this.
Rank 3 - Wedge - Normal Difficulty
Location: Wedge's House (south east bottom corner)
Reward: Armored Shock Trooper (Defense), Battalion Board III, Condor Coin x3
Board:Assassin Board II
Note: there is a chest near Wedge's house where you can get the "Riot Barracks" unit
Rank 4 - Chadley (Grandmaster Battle) - Normal Difficulty
Location: Town Watch Board
Reward: 10,000 Gil, AP Up Materia, Condor Coin x4
Board: Battalion Board III
This one is the hardest out of the Normal ones. He spawns mainly on the left side of the board so try to head him off as best you can. It might take a few tries and some unit adjusting but this was the final load out I used. Also keep in mind what they are throwing at you. If they are throwing a bunch of vanguards at you, deploy defense units.
Misc
This game is based on the mini RTS game within the original release of FF7 on the PlayStation 1. It was pretty primitive compared with today and the graphics really were bare bones. But it was pretty easy to understand and win. It was a mini story about a condor (like the ones we have but 100x larger) incubating it's egg on top of a mako reactor and how Shinra wanted to take the "huge materia" that the egg is covering. You and your party had to defend the egg and if you were able to fend off the attack, you, not Shinra, got the "huge materia" as a reward.

I'm glad they took the time to re-imagine the game in this remake and a very challenging distraction from the main DLC story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxgRcecrVPY
