Not sure why I thought that a rocket jump would do it, but I'll just take it as TF2-soldier reference. :D
And yes... It was an awful ride, yet I like how rewarding it felt when I finally got through. :)

I just thought about this too yesterday and recently recorded a clip where I do the start by shooting the items over the floating isles like in the end.
I got that recommendation by another player who partially recorded Interloper.

There was an update that changed weapon behaviour?
At 1:02:04 you need to jump on top of one of the Alien Grunt Pods to get over the forcefield back to the hat / pizza you left there. I accelerated that part mindlessly. Sorry.
