Intro
Now almost everyone knows that for advancing Goldmask's quest you have to use "Law of Regression" incantation in front of Radagon's statue in Leyndell. This incantation requires 37 INT which not everyone has readily available. Some people will say "just respec for quest and respec back" but there is a way to save your precious Larval Tears!
The Smartening
So we only need to cast this incantation once and the following gear will help us:
  • +3 from Marika's Scarseal OR +5 from Marika's Soreseal (these two talismans cannot be equipped together at the same time)
  • +5 from Godrick's Great Rune
  • +5 from Stargazer Heirloom
  • +5 from Oath of Vengeance, Grafted Blade Greatsword's Skill (40 STR or 27 STR if two-handing, 14 DEX required)
  • +6 from Twinsage Glintstone Crown
  • +10 from Intelligence-knot Crystal Tear for Flask of Wondrous Physick
Now we will get an intelligence bonus of:
  • +36 with Marika's Soreseal
  • +34 with Marika's Scarseal
  • +31 without any of Marika's talismans

+31 INT bonus is enough for all classes to cast Law of Regression, even for Hero and Prophet with smallest INT stat starting at 7 points, however Grafted Blade Greatsword's Skill should be used in this case, so don't forget to equip Radagon's Scar/Soreseal, Starscourge Heirloom or Prosthesis Heirloom, depending on your current stats.

In short, to cover all bases, you would equip following talismans:
  • Radagon's Soreseal (with this even Hero with their lowest Dex stat of 9 points can meet Grafted Blade Greatsword's Dex requirements)
  • Starscourge Heirloom (with this+Radagon's Soreseal+Strength-knot Crystal Tear even Astrologer with their lowest STR stat of 8 points can two-hand Grafted Blade Greatsword and thus use its skill)
  • Stargazer Heirloom
  • Marika's Scarseal (practically no one will have Marika's Soreseal at this point and this talisman can be skipped for most classes)
This gives us +10 STR, +5 DEX and +8 INT from talismans alone.

Now we can drink our Flask of Wondrous Physick with following crystal tears:
  • Strength-knot Crystal Tear
  • Intelligence-knot Crystal Tear
These give us additional +10 to STR and INT.

Equip Godrick's Great Rune and activate it by using Rune Arc for +5 bonus to all stats
Now at this point you already have +25 STR, +10 DEX which is more than enough for the next step
Two-hand and activate Grafted Blade Greatsword's Skill for additional +5 to all stats

And now you have +28 INT bonus and by equipping Twinsage Glintstone Crown you make it +34. As you can see, in most cases you don't even need Marika's Scarseal talisman but it can serve as substitute for Stargazer Heirloom if you still don't have it.

    Thanks for reading!

Make sure to do this before you visit the forge of giants. Don't make the same stupid mistake I did, sigh.

"Here's a guide that allows you to respec 16 times per playthrough instead of 18."

You get 18 larval tears per play through and you're gonna have so many of them after a few ng+'s that you don't even know what to do with all of them.

this is all nice and convenient if you have all the required spells and items within arms reach to begin with.

It's a one time thing to cast the spell to progress the quest genius
