Widescreen Configurations
Call of Duty

  • Open your Call of Duty folder (where you installed the game)
  • Locate the "main" folder and open it
  • Find and open "config.cfg" and "config_mp.cfg" in a text editor of your choice.

Edit the following lines as shown above and save them. You can adjust the resolution according to your monitor resolution.

seta r_customaspect "1.7"
seta r_customwidth "1920"
seta r_customheight "1080"
seta cg_fov "96"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta com_introplayed "1"

If any of these lines do not exist in the config files, add them and save the files.

Call of Duty United Offensive

  • Open your Call of Duty folder (where you installed the game)
  • Locate the "uo" folder and open it
  • Find and open "uoconfig.cfg" and "uoconfig_mp.cfg" in a text editor of your choice.

Edit the following lines as shown above and save them. You can adjust the resolution according to your monitor resolution.

seta r_customaspect "1.7"
seta r_customwidth "1920"
seta r_customheight "1080"
seta cg_fov "96"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta com_introplayed "1"

If any of these lines do not exist in the config files, add them and save the files.

Here is an image to guide you on where to correctly find these config files:

Some Important Notes
After completing all these setup steps, please note:

"DO NOT CHANGE RESOLUTION IN GAME SETTINGS!" (as it may reset your configuration.)

If your game is broken after these configurations:

DELETE CONFIG FILES AND OPEN YOUR GAME. IT WILL RESET AND RE-CREATE NEW CONFIG FILES. THEN EVERYTHING WILL BE BACK TO DEFAULT SETTINGS AGAIN.

Finding the Correct Aspect Ratio

To correctly set the "customaspect" follow this guide:

Default is 1 (seta r_customaspect "1")
4:3 uses 1.3 (seta r_customaspect "1.3")
16:10 uses 1.6 (seta r_customaspect "1.6")
16:9 uses 1.7 (seta r_customaspect "1.7")
Screen Overflowing Issue Fix
If your game doesn't fit your screen or is overflowing, adjust the game compatibility:

  • Right-click "CoDSP.exe"
  • Navigate to the "Compatibility" tab
  • Locate "Change settings for all users" and click on it.
  • In the opened window, find "Change high DPI settings" and click on it.
  • Then check the option for "Override high DPI scaling behavior"

Apply these changes to CoDMP.exe, CoDUOSP.exe, and CoDUOMP.exe as well.

Some Performance Adjustments and Fixes (Optional)
If your game looks laggy, you can change "nopredict" to 0 or 1:

seta cg_nopredict "0"

If your monitor turns darker in fullscreen or your screenshots appear darker, and the game doesn't respond to brightness settings, you can fix it with:

setting r_overBrightBits "0"

If the monitor turns very bright when attempting to Alt+Tab ↹ out of the game, fix it with:

r_ignorehwgamma "1"

That's right Mirex. The reason of OpenGL errors are mostly wrongly adjusted resolutions.

Gal Dukat, make sure you set the right height and width, I mismatched and gave me OpenGL error.

If you want to use widescreen in multiplayer (can't change FOV there) without the "zoomed in" effect, you need to create a custom resolution in your NVIDIA/AMD panel that cuts off a bit of width, e.g. 1440x1080 if your monitor is 1920x1080 or 1920x1440 if your monitor is 2560x1440. Then set the same resolution in the config. You should now have widescreen but without the zoomed in effect (the image will be a bit stretched though).

The aspect ratio for 32:9 can be calculated by dividing 32 by 9.

32/9 = 3.56

So, for a 32:9 aspect ratio, you would use: 3.5 or 3.56
