Vascones

Description
The Vascones were a pre-roman tribe who inhabited the territory that spans between the upper course of the Ebro river and the southern basin of the western Pyrenees. The Vascones are considered ancestors of the present-day Basques to whom they left their name. Unlike the Aquitanians or Cantabrians, the Vascones negotiated their status in the Roman Empire, and were peacefully assimilated by the Romans. In the Sertorian War, Pompey established his headquarters in their territory, founding Pompaelo, which soon became the most important Vascon city. The Germanic tribes pose a thrat to the Vascones, and a Germanic invasion of Hispania is inminent. The Vascones need a powerful leader to consolidate their power around the Pyrenees and defend their homeland from invading armies. Help the Roman Empire restore its glory or contribute to its downfall!

This mod adds a brand new playable faction to the Grand Campaign: the Vascones. Their campaign is unlike any vanilla faction: you start as tributary state of the Western Roman Empire. You can develop your relations with the Romans and aid them defend their borders or patiently wait for their downfall and claim their land. The Vascones have multiple custom features. For example, they have their own subculture and a brand new religion: Vascon Paganism. The mod uses historically accurate names. The Vascones have a diverse roster combining Vascon, Celtiberian and Hispano-Roman units.

Compatibility:
This mod edits the StartPos of the Grand Campaign, as well as the animation table and over 80 DB tables.

All right, the mod is: Some Factions Unlock
You can find it quickly by just tapping "Basques" it adds many duchies from Age of Charlemagne, it can be considered as a continuation of your work, how much the units are cool. You should check it up.
I tried it very briefly because I was distracted by the southern gallic duchies

Yeah I tried it too, there is even a mod that adds cool Vasconic tribeslike units. Il go check it and give you the name in the next comment, be right back

Hey, unfortunately, this mod was developed exclusively for the Grand Campaign. It is true that the Vascones are a minor faction in the Last Roman campaign, if you use a faction unlocker you will be able to play as the vanilla game Vascones, which use Germanic units (yeah, I know).

By the Age of Charlemagne era, the Vascones were no longer a tribe, they belonged to the Kingdom of Pamplona (later known as Kingdom of Navarre). I remember playing a very fun legendary campaign with the Marca Hispanica mod (available in English and Spanish), which unlocks the Kingdom of Pamplona.

Hey I could finally try it, my computer had memory difficulties and so I could just install one game at the time.
So the Vascones appear only in grand campaign? I thought they were to be present in the Last Roman and or Age of Charlemagne.
Is using an all factions unlockers would allow me to play them in TLR?

Ok no problem, but if you do please make the Vascones painted historically (the one by CA is as fantasy as the germanic pikes in both Rome 1, Rome 2 and attila) no painted warriors really just painted themselves their face only, a painted warrior painted their chest. Even remote Iroquois, sioux and other native americans used the painting correclty. Seeing the Iberians from CA is just disgusting. For inspiration you can check up the mod for attila total war: ancient empire/Celtiberians/Arevaci slingers

@Aristoxenus Thank you for your comments! It is true that there is little information about the Vascon military on the internet. I already knew about the Cohors II Vasconum, this is why I included Roman units to the Vascon roster. Also, some of the Vascon units do use warpaint.

I haven't worked on this mod since its release over a year ago, so I do not think that I will update it with new units. Nonetheless, I am grateful that people show interest in Basque history.

I had more to write but they don't let me write more, for more knowledge, either comment back or direct message me.
They are so overshadow that even the Internet knows so little about them

Amulet of Kings, i was reading your message (the one that talks about the misrepresentation of the Basque with germanic units) but I can help you describe how Basque Warriors of 6th century looked like (I talked a Basque person and he told me many things about his ancestors)

-They did have heavy armoured troops as they had contact with Rome and surprisngly, even had their own army: Cohors II Vasconum , so these troops could be equiped with some Roman armours completely or partly
-They used bowmen hunters, tended to use more slings but since the Greeks, Phoenicians and Romans camed, they adopted more the Bow
-Some of their troops, as any tribal war like, they had champions (Basque Champions, 2 handed swordsmen) who fought half naked (in torso i call that) I don't remember if he told me that they painted their bodies with war paint as their celtic and celtiberians neighbors did, but well, even if they didn't it would be cool to see it.

@Butter Lord What's the problem? Can you select the Vascones in the faction selection menu or isn't the mod loading at all?
