This guide is designed to not be very specific or too helpful because its the kind of game you need to experience yourself to get the most out of it but you will get stuck fairly often. The game is more linear then it appears, so explore around, have a good time and when your lost come check the guide for a clue.

~READ BEFORE STARTING~

So its important to understand your objective.
Your not trying to just access new parts of the house,
some rooms won't be accessible until making story chapter progress.
Don't go looking around for keys, completing story chapters is your objective.

To start a story chapter, you have to pick up the right object in the house:

Panda Picture(Lucy's Chapter) - On the kid's room door upstairs
Crutch(Rakan's Chapter) - Leaning against the stairs by the front door
Mirror Key(Dolores's Chapter) - On the wall by the front door

You may do any one of three first but that is my recommended order.
Be sure to collect the VHS Tapes after completing each chapter.

-----Basic Help Below-----

~INVENTORY MANAGEMENT~

Item Types:
Dynamic items are discardable stored in the d-pad slots.
Key items are essential to story progression and are stored in the slots below.

Storing Items - Hold the tab button and click the left mouse button for left hand, or right mouse button for right hand on any empty d-pad slot.
Pulling Out Items - Hold the tab button and click the left mouse button for left hand, or right mouse button for right hand on the desired item.
Dropping Items - Hold F and click the left mouse button for left hand, or right mouse button for right hand. (Note: Any key item dropped will transport to the storage room down in the basement.)
Switching Hands - Press the space bar

~SANITY~

The sanity gauge appears in the lower left corner of your screen.
The meter will form a red blood splatter when your sanity is getting very low.

It is important to keep it from getting really low because if ignored you can be instantly killed.
A low sanity also increases the chance of lights going out or other such events that are not helpful.

Keep your sanity high by taking pills.

~HELPFUL TIPS~

Move items to your right hand so your not always accidentally using them
Always keep a lighter and pills on you
Keep all the lights on(Switches facing up will always indicate on.)
You can help light a room more with lamps or a TV screen.
You can switch the power back on in the electric room down in the basement
You can make opening doors way less annoying by changing it in the options

Hint #15 - This next section is very non-linear and can be confusing. You have to look around the house for mirrors and break them with the sledgehammer. These mirrors have things to do but there are some mirrors that you can do at any time and some you cant. Here are all of them in suggested order:
- Garage Door Mirror - Just a transport mirror to the basement area when needed. To get back to the upstairs area, jump through the hole in the basement bathroom.
- Prayer Room Mirror - Take the sphere from the baby and go back to the garage. Use the vise in there to break it open and receive a hint note for another mirror. Go back to the mirror and pick up the baby from its crib. Go out of the mirror and follow the path to Dolores and give the baby to her. You can then take the Moon Toy off of the crucifix.
- Living Room Mirror - There are 3 puzzles here. To solve them you need a note found in a sphere from another mirror. Once all three are solved, walk in a circle until you see the red crib room. grab the baby monitor in the crib.
- Upstairs Bathroom Mirror - In order to complete the puzzle in this mirror you will need the baby monitor found in another mirror. Once obtained, use the baby monitor in the bedroom to hear the code. Go into the upstairs bathroom mirror and note the clocks above the pathways.

  (In Bathroom Mirror Hallway)(
  Enter the pathways with the clocks on the hours in which the code says in order. Go into the room with the phonograph and interact with it. Then follow the path down to the phonograph again and take the handle from it.
- Map Room Mirror - There will be a body on a chair in front of you. Grab the infusion bag from it. You will then need to use a knife found in another mirror on the body. Grab the key and use it on the door at the end of the room. Go in a and grab the Cloud Toy from the box.

  (Next To Cloud Toy)
- Upstairs TV Room Mirror - At the bottom of the ladder, go into the darkness and look left. Walk into the room with the many pictures. There are 3 empty spaces on the wall. If you go to the bedroom and remove the correct picture off of the wall, there will be a hole. Look through the hole to see 3 pictures hanging on a wall. Those 3 pictures need to be put in the 3 spaces with in their correct order. Use the pictures laying around on the floor and hanging by the ladder to make the wall open up. Inside will be a crib. You need to use the infusion bag from another mirror to finish the puzzle and grab the Sun Toy.
- Balcony Mirror - Go to the end of the hallway inside and break the floor. You will fall to a room with hanging bodies. Grab the the note on the chair and go up the stairs. Grab the mechanical crank from the lighted well. Go back downstairs and read the note, it gives you the answers to the puzzle. Look at the hanging bodies, they will have pictures attached to them. You have to open the wells upstairs using the crank that light up the 3 hanging bodies that have the pictures that the note describes. Once completed, jump down the hole and follow the path back to the house.
- Basement Closet Mirror - Go through the hole in the side wall and enter the room with the crucifixes. Go through the hole under the crucifixes and come out the other side.
  [Achievement] - Grab the wooden cross and lay it over the hole in the floor in the exit corridor. Once you open the door on the other side, grab the shotgun.
  Once up the stairs, use the mechanical crank obtained from another mirror to raise the crucifix. Grab the knife and leave the way you came in.
- Mannequin Room Mirror - Walk into the kitchen and see Dolores at the table. She will request you bring her some tea. Grab the key to the teabox on the table.

  Leave the mirror and grab the tea from the attic and return. Use the tea on the cup and after the cutscene, grab the Star Toy from the cup and the crowbar.
- Basement Mirror - Once up the ladder, you will find a window. On the other side of the window is a compass. To open the window, grab the crowbar from another mirror.
- Stairway Mirror - Grab the compass from another mirror before entering this mirror. Use the compass to find a statue, then take the left path ahead. Keep following the path until you find a crib buried in the ground. interact with it to find the Space Ship Toy. Now go back to the statue, and take the other path to a crypt. Enter the crypt and go down the stairs to return to the house.
- Basement TV Room Mirror - Cannot yet access.

Hint #2 - For this section you have to play a vhs tape in the vcr in the tv room. The tapes will each give a clue to an area of the house where there is a secret path leading to a mask piece.
It is better to watch them and find the mask piece one at a time because it could mess up certain achievement items spawning. Here is some further help for each tape if needed:
- Pride Video Tape - Be sure to have a lighter on you for this one. Take the key from the table by the front door. Go to the upstairs garage area and find a toolbox. You will be able to move it and enter the hole on the other side. Use the key on the locked box and grab the handle. Use the handle on the cellar door in the mannequin room. Once down inside, you will be in a lab and have to break out. Grab a stool and break the window by the counter to escape. You will have to drop a stool on the counter and climb up before breaking it. Find and open the cabinet with the fire axe inside and take it. Go back into the other room and break open the wall with the damaged tiles. Use your lighter to move through the hole until you climb out on the other side. Now follow the foot prints on the floor and they will lead you to the mask piece.
- Prison Video Tape - Be sure to have some pills on you for this one. Go through the basement hallway with the wooden stairs until you focus on the flickering light. Grab the sledgehammer at the end of the hall and the lights will go out. You have to grab the two lights still active and move them from socket to socket to move around. Your goal is to break open all of the brick walls in the separate hallways.
  [Achievement] - Special Gift
  (Break down the wall with the crate inside. Grab the crate and place it below the other hole with the bedroom inside. Use the crate to climb up inside. Open the closet and look inside.)
  After all walls are broken, return to the exit wall to grab the mask piece.
- Negligence Video Tape - Go down to the basement tv room and grab the vinyl record off of the wall. play it in the phonograph and the wall will open up. step through and start pushing the cart all the way down the isle. Make sure to grab the cases until you see the cart is full message, and you will eventually move into the darkness. Once on the chair, keep drinking the can until you can grab the mask piece.
- Addiction Video Tape - Go to the parent's bedroom and climb down the hole. Sit in the chair and drink until you can grab the mask piece.
- Greed Video Tape - Be sure to have a lighter on you for this one. Go to the boiler room and interact with the stool and vent. Once you fall down, grab another stool from the power room and repeat. Move through the vent and sign the contract on the other side. Go through the open door and crouch through the crowd to get the mask piece.
- Indifference Video Tape - For this one you have to collect 6 picture frames around the house:
  - 1) - Parent's Bedroom Closet
  - 2) - Hallway Outside Laundry Room
  - 3) - Prayer Room
  - 4) - In Freezer Room Ceiling
  - 5) - Power Room
  - 6) - Storage Room
  [Achievement] - Dance, dance
  (Go to the upstairs bathroom and grab the key stuck onto the faucet of the sink. Use the key to open the safe in the map room and take the note inside. Go down to the basement and open the door right of the boiler room.)
  Once you have all the picture frames, find and place them on the green striped wall. Interact with the pictures and step into the hallway. Keep going until you find a table with several pills. Take all of them and then interact with the chained door nearby. Then interact with all of the doors in the room and the chained door can be opened. Go through until you reach the wall at the end. Turn around and you’ll have a wall behind you then turn back around and appear in a cave. Go down the path and get in the boat. Paddle to the other end where the stairs are and continue to the tower. Once inside, listen to the tv if you want and move up to the top. Interact with the picture and watch the cutscene to get the mask piece.
- Affliction Video Tape - You have to grab the crowbar and use it on the floor boards of the mirror room. Once down in the factory area, push a button to make the pipes move out of your path and find a door needing a magnetic card. The card is in a locked locker and the key to the locker is in the cafe. When stuck in the cafe, climb through a vent to get out. Once through the red door, interact with the well to get the mask piece.

The chocolate powder is in the bottom drawer by the microwave, and the milk is in the fridge. Add them both to the special mug on the counter and interact with it. After it disappears, go upstairs to the comic room and interact with the object inside.

For this achievement you need to find a small little alien that spawns around the house. You can quicksave by the little shelf in front of the room with the freezer, keep quickloading and eventually the alien should appear.

AHHHHH why is the Special Gift achievement listed as "Final Chapter Only"?? I got sucked into the event right after Rakan's chapter and completed it without a second thought. Now that I'm done with Delores's chapter, I see that I missed the achievement and there's no way to go back and get it unless I start a new game and do Rakan's chapter all over again. It should be an addendum to "Rakan's Chapter Only" or at least "Non-Chapter".

Alot has changed since I played it a year or two ago. When I played there was only one chapter, then I played again when the second was released. Now I log on to find they swiped my save and I have to replay it all over again!
