Requirements
- Naturalist role for 25 gold bars
- Hunting Wagon (to make sure the animals do not disappear with disconnects and to keep a stock ready)
- Sniper Rifle
- Shotgun or Elephant rifle

The Best Way
I usually just go to Harriet and do the Short Legendary Sighting Missions which are Banded Gator, Milk Coyote, Payta Bison, Inahme Elk, Rutile Horn Ram. They are done within mere minutes and give 40-50 materials per mission.I store like 5 legendary pelts in my hunting wagon at all times. My mats are always full at Cripps.

If I don't see Short Missions: Banded Gator, Milk Coyote, Payta Bison, Inahme Elk, Rutile Horn Ram

I just skip and come back later. Also, there is a section in this guide about how to do the short missions the fastest way.

You can read the rest of the guide for more in-depth information

The Hunt in Free Roam
For 25+ player lobbies for this to work better I suggest you start a game at on side of the map, say New Austin, and then you press "L" go to "Online" Turn off Social Networking and use a fast travel post onto the other side of the map, say Van Horn. Even if the lobby has 25+ players in it, when those players are all clustered (and most of them will be clustered around your initial login into the session) in one spot, then animals and encounters will appear in greater numbers in places on the map, where there are no people or few people around.

All you have to do is to hunt Legendary Animals to restock, which is especially easy in Free Roam with Empty lobbies since they spawn all the time. Each legendary animal gives between 18 to 30 material gains when donated to Cripps. Some animals can be donated skinned, some can be donated whole. Sometimes you can donate both skinned carcass and the skin separately. And of course you can donate their teeth, claws etc.

You can use this map: https://jeanropke.github.io/RDOMap/ to find them. Turn everything off except the Legendary Animals and you will have an entire game map with their locations and conditions for them to appear. If that is not enough there are guides on Steam detailing how to find them.

Legendary animals appear as yellow question marks on radar and disappear from time to time. Make sure to press alt to enlarge the radar. They also give distinctive loud noises and a text warning saying "A legendary animal is nearby". You can use legendary pheromones to attract them and to have the question mark appear indefinitely. I however do not bother spending money on them and just follow their last known location on the map as 1 costs $20 and I'd rather spend the money on refilling consumables or a coat. They take a few shots to kill, more than regular animals. Being a higher level in naturalist role makes it easier to track them and also increases their spawn chances.

Be sure to press middle mouse button (if playing on PC) to access hunter vision, so you can track their footprints. Press "Q" to remember tracking. That can help you find the animal. Having the bounty hunter sprint/gallop hunter vision ability can be of great help.

Just ride from one animal to the other collecting them and storing them in the Hunting Wagon so as not to lose them to a crash/disconnect/death.

Make sure not to burn/blow them up or you will ruin the pelts. Use bullets only. Also if they die in water they will drown like all other animals.

There are so many animals spawning that you will be able to get them all the time after you've sold them for coats to Gus. Never sell animals to Butcher or Gus for money because the amount of money you get from materials converted into goods into Far Away 100 goods delivery is so much more.

Once done collecting just summon your hunting wagon and park it next to Cripps and give him the mats. I believe the wagon can hold around 5 legendary animals depending on their type.
Plan B, Sighting Missions from Harriet, works for 25+ player lobbies
If lobbies come back to normal or you don't wanna ride around looking for animals you can just find Harriet and do some of her legendary missions. There are 3 missions (sometimes 4) available per 45 minutes. Some of the missions are really short like the Gator mission, and some are really long. It would be helpful to know which missions are the shortest. But I cannot promise to look into this soon.

After completing the mission make sure to store your skins into a Hunting Wagon. Make sure to do this fast as sometimes you can get DC'ed after a mission.

And that's all you have to do folks to refill Cripps in a matter of minutes.
Sighting Legendary Missions' Lengths for Effiency
Short Missions take a few minutes to complete, Banded Gator being the shortest can be done in a single minute.

Long Missions in particular Cross Fox can take about 15 minutes.

Very Long Missions: Cross Fox, Golden Spirit Bear, Ruddy Moose, Icahi Boar

Long Missions: Night Beaver, Moostone Wolf, Sapa Cougar, Shadow Buck, Iwakta Panther

Short Missions: Banded Gator, Milk Coyote, Payta Bison, Inahme Elk, Rutile Horn Ram

Rutile Horn Ram is the longest Short Mission, in fact it could even be called Medium Length Mission but once you get past the first set of clues you can skip the other clues and head straight to poachers saving yourself time
Strategy for Short Missions
When looking for Payta Bison, you don't have to waste time unlocking all cages. You can either peek above the door and see that the animal inside is not the desired animal but there is an even better way.

Payta Bison will always be locked in a cage that you can only open with animations by holding "E" to open. Whereas, all other normal animals are locked behind 2 locks that you need to shoot off with guns. So it is really easy to find the Legendary Bison, you can just ride by all cages without stopping to fight poachers, just look if the cage has locks. If it doesn't there is the Payta Bison inside.

Rutile Horn Ram is the longest Short Mission. There are 2 sets of clues in this mission. You have to inspect all clues during stage one, but during stage 2 there will be clues also, however, you will see enemies on your mini-map - the poachers. Ride to them, they will be attacking the Legendary Ram, and just get the Ram instead of wasting time on clues.

Banded Gator, Milk Coyote, Inahme Elk are short as they are. There is no need to come up with a way to solve them faster, just follow the instructions.
Some Pointers
Risk factor: Free Roam Legendaries are lost if you die because you get teleported from them or their skins. You can die as many times during a Legendary Animal Mission and the animal will remain

Each 20 animal kills Harriet will spray you and block you from using her shop/missions for 10 minutes

Some missions end in convenient places during convenient time of day so you can hunt the mission animal and then go check nearby Free Roam spawn like with Inahme Elk and Winyan Bison

All sighting missions have certain variations to them when you replay them. They aren't static and completely the same.

There is usually 1 Legendary Animal for you per lobby change in Free Roam
Some Examples of Animal Worth
Animals found during Free Roam usually cost twice less than the ones that come from Herriet missions. Free Roam 18-30 while Harriet can go from 40 to 56.

Here are some examples of Animal Worth. There is further info on goods worth on RDO map already https://jeanropke.github.io/RDOMap/ just go over to the link and choose legendary animal of your choice and click on one of the X markers, it will give you all the info you need including selling prices, amount of materials you will get if you donate it to Cripps and weather conditions with time etc.

As shown below

Inahme Elk and Tatanka Bison

Rutile Ram and Wakpa Boar

Great game with potential
RDO in itself is a great game. If you like winning (possibly in PvP) or grinding i.e restocking the trader, moonshiner to sell different moonshine, you enjoy collecting, doing various daily challenges, have fun with horses, or you enjoy showing off your abilities as bounty hunter, or even like tracking animals as naturalist. Over time you may accumulate a lot of wealth and despite occasional cheaters and connection issues, it is a really really amazing experience.

Please, have fun and enjoy and be well!

@marc_GBR, ehh? Where am I saying that you need to take a sample? It was like this from the start. You either skin or sample.

This guide is about skinning or bringing entire carcasses to Cripps without sampling and never did I mention that you need to sample them.
Marc_GBR 29. čvc. 2021 v 17.13
Rockstar has patched this. You can no longer do both, if you take a sample you wont be able to kill it.
1984  [autor] 1. led. 2021 v 19.31
yes we are but it is better to kill sightings animals as they net more resources
SilverFox 1. led. 2021 v 16.35

Very good guide, as a casual roleplayer in RDO these kinds of in depth investigations into the game mechanics and best practices are always very good to read. Keep up the good work.
