Before we begin...

You won't be able to upload animated workshops
if you have one or more VAC bans on your account!

Y not 69 bans doe

Please, do not upload any content to Steam if you are not the creator of it,
do not have a copyright for it nor do not have a permission to upload it!

For more information, read this article on Content Rules...

Intro

In late 2020, Valve decided to permanently remove the possibility to upload
merchandise items to Steam. Merchandise was the only known type of item that could be
featured on Workshop Showcases and be unopenable at the same time.
Regular workshop items cannot behave like that.

ZONK!

Today, in this guide, I'm going to show you the way to bring
inaccessable workshop showcases back to life!

Nyaaaaa~

1. Accept Workshop Legal Agreement

First things first: This method relies on creating a dummy workshop item.

You won't be able to create one if you don't accept Steam Workshop Legal Agreement.
Also I highly recommend to read this thing before you accept so you wouldn't be surprised
if your dummy workshop item was suddenly removed*.

           gtm.you1.cn/workshop/workshoplegalagreement

2. Create a dummy workshop item

There is a big chance you already have such an item created.
Check if your profile contains any Spacewar workshop items. If it does, you can skip this step.

Now we can safely move onto uploading a dummy workshop item.

But why, oh why, do we need such an item? In the next step we will be focusing on uploading
a collection item and collection items cannot be edited nor deleted if there is no at least
one workshop item bound to it. That's why creating a dummy item is an important key
to make the system work as intended.

Open this web page via your web browser:
            gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/edititem/767/3

Next, open the dev console and submit this piece of code:
$J('[name=consumer_app_id]').val(480),$J('[name=file_type]').val(0),$J('[name=visibility]').val(0);

As the title and a preview image you can choose whatever you want
(as long as it doesn't violate Steam's UGC terms, of course).
My personal recommendations for the title and the preview image are as follows:
Title
Spacewar
Preview

Tick the "I certify that I created this artwork" box and click "Save and Continue".
Your dummy workshop item is now uploaded to your profile!

3. Create a collection item

There are 4 types of user-generated Steam items that can be featured on workshop showcases:
Workshop items, Microtransaction items, Merchandise items and Collection items.

Only two of them can be public and inaccessable at the same time:
              Merchandise items and Collection Items.

Since Merchandise items are no longer possible to create,
we will focus on creating unopenable collection items.

Open this web page via your web browser:
            gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/edititem/767/3

Next, open the dev console and submit this piece of code:
$J('[name=consumer_app_id]').val(480),$J('[name=file_type]').val(2),$J('[name=visibility]').val(0);

Tick the "I certify that I created this artwork" box and click "Save and Continue".
After that, you should see a page that looks something like this:

Selecting child items for te collection item

Select any item visible on the list and click "Save and Continue".

The dummy item selected as a child item

Congratulations! You have created an unopenable collection item!
Now you can put it into your workshop showcases!

You can repeat this process for four more items
to be featured on your 5-windowed workshop showcase.
Woo, inaccessable O_O

If you want to delete your collection item, simply navigate your cursor
at the "Owner Controls" panel and click "Delete":

There is one tiiiny issue with Collection Items associated with the Spacewar app though.
You can't edit their titles nor branding images.
If you accidentally misspell the title or upload a wrong image,
you can safely delete it and reupload again.
Whatever you want to do, DO NOT CLICK THE "PUBLISH" BUTTON!
This will make your Collection Item accessable
and you cannot undo this operation!

Outro

And that's pretty much it! You have learned a Shaolin's secret technique on how to upload
unopenable workshop animations and feature it on your Steam profile!

If you have any questions, ask in a comment section below and, I'll try to help!

Huge thanks to people who helped me test this method:

* Moderators may remove your item if it violates Steam Terms of Service. This expands to such things as putting an inappropriate, suggestive or vulgar title, description or branding image into your item or doing anything that violates the copyright rules (such as stealing the image without asking original creators). The included template for the dummy workshop item is not protected by any copyright rules and thus it can be used for uploading as many workshop items as you wish.

All the links to upload dummies appear to just take you to the upload artwork area instead of the upload workshop content area
