Data Defense - Tower defense game
By Cassandra
Since I searched a guide for this game and didn't find one, I thought it's about time I made one myself. It is the first guide I ever made, so feel free to give inputs for improvement.

Gameplay Basics
Start screen
On the start screen you can choose between survival mode or campaign mode. Survival is a good choice to try out new tower programs or strategies. The campaign mode is the main gameplay mode where you proceed to unlock new levels. On the start screen you can also change your sound settings in the top right corner for either music or sound effects.

Survival mode
This map is a good choice for training. You can try out strategies like specific tower positionings, or test the abilities of new tower programs, such as how they work and improve each other. You can also play it just for fun. On every map there is a server core, a diamond shaped form with a number in it. The number represents your Data Credits, which you need to buy tower programs. The spawn point(s) are red squares at the edges of the maps. On top of the screen you can see a bar that gives you important information. On the left side of the skip button you can see a preview of the next attack wave, on the right side you can see a countdown to the next wave. If you click the skip button, the next wave will start instantly in addition to the attack of the remaining enemies.

Campaign mode
The campaign mode is, well, the mode where you play the main campaign. If you decide to play campaign, you will find yourself on the path of servers. You can play the normal levels, namely the servers 1 to 40. There are also 14 challenge servers of which every one includes a special challenge. If you beat a level, the next will unlock. In the top left corner of the campaign site you can see the number of stars you have in total, this number is relevant to unlock new tower programs. In the bottom right corner, you find a clickable button called "TECH" that leads you to the tech site.

Tech
Here you can change your tower programs before you start a level or survival mode (in this mode it automatically pops up before you start). In the middle of the screen you see how many stars you’ve unlocked through campaign mode. you need the stars to unlock new tower programs. In the top left corner, you can see how many memory units you've collected during game play (levels, challenges and campaign; they drop after certain enemies were destroyed). You need those to buy the tower programs.
There are 6 types of programs: utility, delay, debuff, damage, area and traps. You can choose one program per type per game played. If it didn't work out, you can change it after the game and try the level again. The name of the program type explains its abilities.

Score board
After a game ends, the score board will pop up. In the centre it shows you what score you have reached (what a surprise). On the left you can see what percentage of time you skipped in total, this is important as it increases your score with bonus points. On the right side you see the bonus you got from your server core. If all encryption layers are still intact you'll get +25% on your score. Directly under the score you can find the stars. You can unlock the first 3 stars with a certain amount of points. The last star you earn by never having gotten a hit on your server during the game, so all encryption layers have to be intact. Due to this, it is possible to get the 4th star without getting all of the others. On the bottom of the score board you are given the option of either repeating the level or proceeding to the next level.

Options
If you press [escape] during a game, the options page will pop open. On top you can change your music/sound settings. Next you can choose a setting for the particles (the little dots that are swirling around), you can even turn them off if you want to. You can change the framerate as the next option. On the bottom you can restart the level or go back to the map or the main menu.

If you are missing any information here, leave a comment :)

Server 1 to 20
Nice to know
The difficulty increases during the campaign, so check regularly if you can unlock and buy new tower programs. You can get 4 stars per level, the first 3 you get by reaching a specific score. They are different for every server. The 4th star, however, is different from the others, you earn it by not letting your server get hit by any enemies.

As you can see on the screenshots, and you will see this strategy a lot in this guide, I created a path like a serpentine. The goal is to make the enemies travel the longest distance possible. Like this you have more time to destroy them and can skip more time. The keyword for this game is efficiency.

Please check the section "specific information" if you want to know more about special zones, threats and strategies.

All Servers from 1 to 33 are 4-starred by only using basic tower programs. I didn't figure out the others yet, but I also 4-starred them with advanced tower programs. This Information is important for a certain achievement.[/b]

Achievements
About
In this part of the guide I will try to explain the way to every achievement. I didn't achieve all of them yet, but I am on a good way. There are 47 achievements available for Data Defense.

Ping-Pong
For this achievement, you have to connect to the game, chose campaign mode and beat the first server.

Dedicated Server
After a while, you will get this achievement by just building a total of 128 tower programs. Any program type counts.

Tinkerer
To get this achievement, all you need to do is to unlock a new tower program. To do so, just collect enough stars and memory units. The stars are used to unlock the tower programs and the memory units to buy them.

Red Pill
All you have to do to unlock this achievement is to beat the first challenge server.

Shields Up
Maintain all encryption layers without 4-starring a server. It doesn't matter which server you choose. The easiest way to do so is to defend a server normally but never skip a wave.

Tech Hobbyist
As you go through the campaign path, you will find yourself in a fight against viruses. To unlock this achievement, just defend your server against a mutating virus infection.

Crypto Hobbyist
To get this achievement, just collect at least 128 memory units during games. They accumulate so you don't need to collect them all in a single game. Memory units are shiny rhombs that drop if you defeat certain enemies.

Critical Path
For this achievement you have to 4-star a server in a single try while defending it from a virus. Well, this seems pretty clear, but I can tell you, you don't need to 4-star the server in the very first try. Just don't klick on replay the server. Close the map, go to the main menu and then start the server again.

Tech Support
Here you have to defend a server from a routing virus infection. Those are the pink viruses with the ability to "jump" over your tower programs if they are in a single line. So, try to make a double wall of tower programs and make the path as long as possible. You can also use portals or proxies.

Server Rack
You have to build a total of 512 tower programs (accumulating).

Modder
For this achievement, you have to unlock a new tower program of each of the six types.

QA Tester
You have to defend a server from a bypassing virus infection. Those are the green flying viruses. You can try it several times if you don't manage it the first time, just klick replay level.

IT Technician
Here you have to defend a server from a replicating virus infection, those are the green viruses made out of 4 smaller squares. If you destroy them, they will split up into these smaller squares and you have to defeat them, too. So be aware that you need an extra path after the destruction point to destroy the little ones, too.

Crypto Trader
Here you have to collect a total of 512 memory units. They accumulate, so don't be afraid of spending them on new tower programs.

Sys Admin
Here you have to defend a server from a slippery virus infection. They are quite fast, so make sure you have some tower programs of the delay type installed. It will make it so much easier.

Hacker
For this achievement, you have to defend a server while destroying an encrypted virus.

Developper
Here you have to defend your server against a persistent virus. They are high in defense and hp.

Overclocked
This achievement is quite simple. You have to boost a tower program's speed by 300% or more. There are 2 easy ways. There is trap you can use which boosts nearby towers if an enemy runs over it. If you place multiple of those on your path, you will get the achievement. You can also use the 3rd utility tower program to boost your tower, but for me it worked perfectly fine with the traps.

Server Room
Just build a total (accumulated) of 2048 tower programs.

Programmer
Here you have to defend your server against a recurring virus infection. They are high in defense and spawn an offspring.

My Friend That Knows Computers
Reach a score of 64'000 while defending a server.

Secure Password
Here you have to build a ridiculously complex maze. And I mean it. Ridiculously complex means like building a labyrinth or using proxies and portals.

Engineer
Here you have to defend a server against a compressed virus infection. Those are the white, zero shaped viruses.

Optimisation
Here you have to beat your own highscore of a server that you have already 4-starred.

Architect
To get this achievement, you need to defend your server against a polymorphic virus infection. The polymorphic ones are shapeshifters, they change their form after a while and can represent all kinds of viruses.

Min Maxer
Here you have to end a game with more than 100 data credits left. To achieve this, try to create a very efficient path with powerful towers so that you don't need to upgrade for a while. Don't spend more on tower programs than needed.

Scientific Aperture
Well, here you need to defend a server while using at least 3 portals. I just placed 3 portals one after another. So, you can include 3 portals but don't need to think about a complex path ;)

Secure VPN
Here you have to defend a server while using at least 3 proxy towers.

Enable Firewall
Achieve a highscore of over 128'000 in a game.

Resource Hoarder
Collect 100 memory units in a single game, choose a level with many waves.

Single Core
Defend a server while only using a single type of tower programs, I would use damage or delay.

Crypto Investor
Collect more than 2048 memory units total.

Greenlight
Use only debuff towers to defend your server.

1337 Hacker
You get it after unlocking all tower programs.

Defeat The Dev
It's all about the score in survival mode. I am not 100% sure at what points you get this achievement, I personally got it at a score of 201'618 points.

Blinged Out Rig
Defend a server using only tower programs with a cost of 10 or more. Be careful to check if all types (not traps) of towers cost more than 10.

Down The Rabbit Hole
Defend the last challenge server. In my opinion easier than server 40.

Liquid Cooled
Defend a server by only using delay type programs.

Install Free Antivirus
Reach a score of 256'000 in a survival game.

Server Farm
Build a total of 8192 tower programs (accumulated).

Optimal
To unlock it, just 4-star all servers and challenge servers. Easy peasy lemon squeezy ;)
It will take its time, several replays and there will be some luck involved. Just try out some strategies and keep clicking the skip button.

Defeat The Girlfriend
As in the achievement "defeat the dev" it's all about the score in survival mode. I got this achievement with a score of 431'010 points. Since it is a specific requirement to beat the most seasoned player, I don't know if this is static.

Back To Basic
Here you have to defend all servers with the basic core tower programs. I didn't manage to get this one yet. I managed it up to server 39 with core programs, but I am stuck on server 40.

Install Professional Antivirus
Here you have to get 512'000 points for a single game. Try it on survival mode, it's the only way.

Crypto Whale
Here you have to collect a total of 8192 Memory Units. As mentioned before, they accumulate over time.

Specialist
Sadly, this achievement seems to be broken.

Closed Network
Here you have to get 1'000'000 points for defending a server. My high score isn't even half of it. ;)
