City Climb (sandbox, hide and seek)

This wasn't the map I was talking about when I mentioned I was trying to get another map fixed. Then a mapping competition happened, which I dropped basically everything to start on. I did manage to get the other one's problems squared away, so that's nice.



This mapathon's theme was verticality, so I began thinking about extremely vertical places on earth that would suit the theme. The earliest version of this map was set in San Francisco. However, as you can tell, that map was effectively cancelled, and I changed the location entirely. Last year, I took a trip to Peru, and I fell in love with the place. I loved all of its back alleys, twisting roads, and narrow streets. Many of the buildings were copied from real life, or drew heavy inspiration from it. I tried my best to copy the building styles that exist there. So far, I've made maps based on memes and animations, but I've always wanted to make something like this.


If you notice, most of the buildings aren't just regular cubes. Each one is extremely unique with a variety of different shapes and details put on them. The tight alleys with all the overhangs were implemented to make the place feel as though monoliths were towering over you. I added an easily accessible upper level so you could better be able to see all the details from the buildings, but also to add variety to the area.
