After downloading this:

1) drag into your directory where the game is installed

2) right click on the game tab

3) go into properties then click launch options

4) type into the command bar -file 64meds.wad

this only works for the steam version.

Disclaimer: loading any wad with -file will disable achievements. only 1 file can be loaded at a time and as of the latest update custom resources work properly.

I actually got them to work. It is a bit more complicated than I anticipated. Unfortunately, I am not legally allowed to release it all set up for this version of Doom 64, as it requires editing the iwad, which is copyrighted.

@bermanator 2000 all this does is replace sprites, should be no reason why sounds don't work, have you tried running it without?

I am trying to get my high quality sound pack to work with this. I don't know why it isn't working, though. By the way, if you're interested in the pack, I am releasing it soon. It's called Doom 64 Sound Bulb. I already made one for classic Doom that is 99.99% faithful to the classic. Unfortunately, the Doom 64 one is a little bit different, but doesn't stray too far from the original to be an issue.

@Zeikar the method you talked about doesn't disable achievements.

Also, for anybody who's wondering: there's nothing special about this particular PWAD that's setting off some kind of anti-cheat. The game just automatically disables achievements whenever it's launched with certain command-line parameters, and "-file" is one of them.

Bugsy: They're in C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\Nightdive Studios\DOOM 64\saves, you can just delete them. Steam Cloud will restore them, though, if you've got it enabled. If you really need to permanently purge them then you may just have to save over all of them explicitly, and then let that sync to Steam Cloud.

What about the method of importing the png files? That shouldn't disable the achievements.

A little warning: Having this active will disable all achievements. But if you take the option out, they will work again, your savegame will not be flagged.

Thanks, this saves me the trouble.
