Introduction

Note: There have been look-a-like copycat guides popping up. If it's not labeled by THN (The Horror Network), it's NOT one of mine and therefore not up to the quality that I aim to provide.

Welcome to the Dead Island Definitive Edition achievement guide.

First up, you're going to want to hunt down a committed co-op partner if you're wanting to go for the full 100% on this game. You'll also need at least 3 other people once, as you have to start a game with 4 people in co-op who are all using a different character. There's also a requirement to play with 10 different co-op partners, for at least 15 minutes each.

Other than the tediousness of the co-op achievements, the rest are pretty straight-forward; kill this, find that, complete the game, do the DLC. Whether you want to go for collectibles while you play or wait until afterwards is completely up to you. Nothing is missable thanks to New Game+, but you should make an effort to visit every location first otherwise you'll have to complete an additional playthrough, potentially in full.

It's also highly advisable to play through with Sam B., as you'll need to use his Fury skill to kill a certain type of enemy that doesn't appear until Act 2. It will save you a bit of time from having to replay that far with him. Keep in mind that the first act needs to be completed with all 4 characters anyway.

Co-op & Leveling
Need a hand?
Join another player's game.
Simply join someone else's game session. You'll get this if you're boosting these co-op achievements, so long as you join. Hosting doesn't count.

Originality
Play in a co-op team of 4 different playable characters.
You'll need to find 3 other people for this achievement by either hosting or joining another game. Each of you will need to be a different character; Sam B., Logan, Purna, and Xian Mei. Feel free to use the comment section of this guide as a boosting thread, this game is dead online.

Ménage à trois
Complete 5 quests with 3 co-op partners.
If you manage to find people for Originality, try and get them to sick around long enough to complete at least 5 quests, because that's what you'll need for this one.

People Person
Play with 10 different co-op partners for at least 15 minutes each.
This one is the real doozy since this game is old and no one plays it online anymore. Best to try and find other people who are going for this achievement too, but the numbers are dwindling. The good news is this can be combined with Going steady, to minimize the amount of grinding needed.

Together in the light
Complete 5 quests in a single co-op game with the same partners.
Despite the description, you only need one other partner. Find a friend or a boosting partner and complete 5 quests together.

Going steady
Complete 25 quests while playing with at least one co-op partner.
It doesn't have to be the same person, the same session, or the same day. You just need to complete 25 quests in total while in co-op.

Learning the ropes
Reach level 10.
See School of Hard Knocks for more information.

Dedicated student
Reach level 25.
See School of Hard Knocks for more information.

School of hard knocks
Reach level 50.
This can be quite the grind, since you'll probably be less than level 40 by the time the main campaign is over. Luckily, there is a method of grinding XP if you're up for that. First you need to know how the Dupe Item Glitch works, and then you need to trade in your items to the infinite side questers to get infinite easy XP. Check out the video.

Kill Related
A taste of everything
Kill a zombie with 10 different melee weapons.
This isn't as complicated as it sounds. As long as it has a different name, it will most likely count towards this achievement. You'll get this naturally throughout the game anyway. An example of different melee weapons; paddle, shovel, baton, baseball bat, hammer, sickle, knife, mace, axe, and machete.

Light my fire
Set 10 zombies on fire simultaneously.
You'll end up getting Molotovs really early on, when you reach the Life Guard tower. The hardest part is finding a congregation of zombies large enough for this. You can always fire a pistol off to lure more enemies closer. Your best bet is to wait until you're at the church, so you can use one of the many high vans in the city as a safety net to stand on and let the zombies pile up under you before lobbing a Molotov down at them.

Tae Kwon Leap
Kill 25 zombies with your bare fists.
Best done early on in the campaign and against either Infected or Walkers. Simply choose your fists from your weapon wheel and wail away at 25 enemies until they're D-E-D ded.

One is all I need
Kill 5 Infected in a row with a single blow.
Fast travel to Gas Station South, or do this during the "Only the Strong Survive" quest, as infinite Infected will spawn and run straight at you. Aim for their head/neck with an edged melee weapon equipped, and swing ONCE. If you accidentally double click and hit them twice, even if they die before the second hit lands, it will reset your counter. Another good spot is the Arena in Act 3.

Can't touch this
Use a hammer to kill a series of 15 zombies without taking damage.
This one can be frustrating, because the game mechanics can be glitchy. Best done early in the game, since you need just a regular hammer; one can be found in the bar/pool area. Best to find unaware/feeding zombies. If one gets too close, kick it to knock it down and kill it while it's on the ground.

Rageman
Kill 100 enemies with Fury attacks.
Fury attacks are each character's special skill, and it can be activated by pressing Z once the meter feels up. It's a short burst of hyper-focus, essentially, that lets you take down a multitude of enemies in the immediate area. It shouldn't take long to get this so long as you use it often, but it will definitely come naturally during a single playthrough.

To put it bluntly
Kill 250 zombies using blunt melee weapons.
This will come over time as you use blunt weapons, such as hammers, baseball bats, pipes, batons, etc. Throw kills do count towards this.

Hack & slash
Kill 250 zombies using edged melee weapons.
This will come over time as you use edged weapons, such as knives, sickles, machetes, swords, etc. Throw kills do count towards this.

Guns don't kill but they help
Kill 250 zombies using firearms.
Much like in any other survival horror game, bullets are a hot commodity. This achievement can take a bit of time due to that, and the fact that guns don't become prominent until later in Act 2 and more heavily in Act 3. You can go for this naturally, or you can take advantage of the area in City Hall with the mounted machine gun. The story will take you here, and the gun is impossible to miss. Use it to wipe out the area and then reload the handy checkpoint. Purna's Fury skill also counts toward this achievement.

10 heads are better than 1
Kill 10 zombies in a row with headshots.
The easiest way to do this is to kick a zombie before shooting it. It shouldn't be that hard to get, as you can use a variety of weapons to take the health of an enemy down (headshots don't always equal instant kills) before finishing it off with a headshot from a gun. As long as the killing blow is from a gun, and in the head of a zombie (not a human), the kill will count. Now do it 10 times in a row.

A very special day
Kill 250 zombies with modified weapons.
You must actually use blueprints to craft a weapon for this achievement, and not just upgrade an existing one. This will come naturally later in the game, as the latter portion of the campaign will see you using modified weapons much more often as you'll generally have a stockpile of crafting resources at your disposal.

Karma-geddon
Kill 50 zombies using a vehicle.
Getting a truck is part of the main story, and eventually they'll be all over the island. Just drive over every zombie you see, each time you're in a vehicle. It doesn't take much effort.

Catch!
Kill an Infected with a grenade blast.
Infected are different from normal Walkers, they're the ones that scream and run at you. You can buy grenades initially from a barricaded trader in Moresby. It HAS to be a grenade, not a Deo-Bomb, in order to count. If you're having problems, kick the Infected to the ground first and then lob the grenade.

First!
Kill a Suicider with a grenade.
Suicider enemies are the first special infected you'll come across. They're in the latter portion of Act 1, and continue appearing from there on out. Just chuck a Deo-Bomb at them, or shoot a red canister if one is nearby, and the achievement will pop.

Oh, no you don't
Kill a Ram using tackle skill.
Sam B. is the only character with the Tackle skill, and it appears in the Combat tree; it can be upgraded 3 times in total. You'll need to play as him up until at least Act 2, as the Ram enemy doesn't appear until then. The Ram zombies are the big, hulking guys in straight jackets that try to.. well, ram you. Play through Act 2 until you get to the church, there will be a Ram waiting for you. Stand just outside the gate so he can't attack you and shoot him until his health is down, then use the Tackle skill to finish him off. The Ram does have a weak spot on his back, if you're able to take advantage of it.

Ah! Spoiled meat!
Kill a Butcher using an axe.
The Butcher doesn't appear until Act 3. He's a special zombie without any hands, and he has long white hair. Try to keep an axe on you so you can take out the first one you encounter with it to save yourself from having to hunt another one down. The first one you see cannot be missed, as it's part of the story. There's another story Butcher, up in some treetops when you're with the Shaman. There's also an axe lodged in a tree. Take the axe, kill the Butcher.

Humanitarian
Kill 50 human enemies.
Humans start appearing as enemies during Act 2. There are plenty of them throughout the game. You shouldn't have any issues getting this one. They're even more prominent in Act 3.
Collectibles
Gotta find'em all
Find 60 collectibles.
See Nearly There for more information.

Nearly there
Find 120 collectibles.
Collectibles... who doesn't love them? There are actually 140 in Dead Island, but you only need 120 of them. Recordings, Personal IDs, Weapon/Mod Blueprints, and Facts all count toward the achievement, and the count carries over for all saves. Meaning if you play as Sam B. until Act 2 and collect 30 items, and then decide to play Purna from start to completion and pick up 90 items, both collectible counts will be merged. Regardless, here is a guide for the collectibles in case you want them all.

There and back again
Explore the entire island.
You'll get most of this just by doing all of the side quests and main story. There is a total of 72 unique locations that are required for this achievement; you'll see their names pop up in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen when you enter a new area. To make sure you're on track, ensure that you have 57/72 locations discovered before entering the "point of no return"; the game will warn you before that happens, otherwise you'll have to get the rest in New Game+. There are 15 locations at the end. Some commonly missed locations are:

Southwestern Moresby: There is a fenced in warehouse, as well as the beach directly west of it.
Southern Moresby: The boat on the shore along the bottom of the map.
Northern Jungle: There are two small villages up there.

Click here for a good guide that will show you all of the locations on every map.

Misc.
Right 4 Life
Complete act I with 4 different characters.
It sucks, but there's no real trick to it that works anymore. Just grin and bear it, and try to stick strictly to the main story quests.

How many days exactly?
Play Dead Island - Definitive Edition at least 28 days after starting it for the first time.
You can either do this legitimately, or cheat by turning your PC's clock ahead by 28 days.

Knock, knock
Breach a locked door with the first blow.
Locked doors are everywhere. The mechanic takes a bit of getting used to, but pull your mouse back and push it forward when the meter just starts going up. You'll eventually get the hang of it enough to land the bar in the red middle section of the gauge. You have to get it there on the first try of the door, though, otherwise it won't count.

Cardio
Travel a distance of 20 kilometers on foot.
Absolutely impossible to miss, unless you quit playing the game.

Road Trip
Drive a total distance of 10 kilometers.
After you get access to the truck, this will come without effort in Act 1.

Gesundheit!
Heal yourself with a medkit 100 times.
Another one that will just come with time and without effort.

Everybody lies
Use a large medkit to heal an injury of 5% or less.
This can be tricky, since you need to lose less than half of a health bar to get this to work. You can always drown yourself for a couple of seconds, or get lit on fire and immediately use the medkit. Basically, keep an eye on your health and use a large medkit if you see a sliver missing. You can buy these items from Florencio at the Warehouse in Moresby.

Rootin' Tootin' Lootin'
Loot 5 Exceptional Weapons.
The term "Exceptional" is mutual with item names colored orange. Finding them is RNG based, and can be taken from either dead zombies, or loot chests.

Tis but a flesh wound!
Sever 100 limbs.
Easily done with the sickle, which is earned very early during the campaign. However, it can be done with any edged weapon. Just aim for the shoulders and the knees. This has to be done while the enemies are alive; dismembering dead bodies doesn't count.

Warranty Void if Used
Create a customized weapon.
See I want one of those for more information.

I want one of those
Customize 25 weapons.
The only thing that counts for this are modified weapons that you create from blueprints. Upgrades do not count. You'll get this naturally throughout the course of the main campaign, especially while going for A very special day.

Steam Punk
Create weapons to rival the gods of fire or thunder.
Both the Shock Mod and Torch Mod blueprints will unlock this achievement. You'll come across the former one first, so if you're eager to get this then use that one when you acquire it.

Busy, busy, busy
Finish 75 quests cumulatively.
Much like the collectibles, this one also carries over progress per save file. Don't worry about it too much, there are tons of side quests in the game. If you complete the first act with all 4 characters, that'll also make a lot of progress on this as well. If you complete everything from each act, you'll unlock this naturally during Act 3.

Savior
Save 5 people besieged by zombies.
While running around the island of Banoi, you'll occasionally see white skulls on your mini-map. Usually, these are random events where survivors are surrounded by zombies. Go to the location and kill the enemies, and the survivor will usually praise you and give you a reward. Do it five times.

Bloodbath Arena (DLC)
Wave and Smile
Play any Arena in co-op.
Hop into an Arena with one of your co-op partners, if you were lucky enough to find one.

Morituri te salutant
Survive 30 consecutive waves with at least one co-op player.
See Death Incarnate for more information.

Out of honey? Chew bees!
Survive 5 waves using only your fists and legs.
Like the description says, use only your fists and kicks. The waves do not have to be consecutive.

Extreme Firefighting
Set 5 enemies on fire and then kill them with explosives.
You don't have to do all five enemies at once, just over the course of time. All you really need to do is put down a meat bait, then toss a Molotov at a group of enemies (or just one single foe), then quickly switch to a bomb/grenade and throw that. You can also put the meat bait next to an exploding barrel and shoot that instead of trying to switch to a grenade.

Complete a set
Kill enemies of 6 different types during a single round.
The description is a bit misleading, as this just has to be done in one session. You have an entire playthrough to get this, for however many waves you choose to complete. The best way to get this is by doing Arena C. At Wave 14, all of the types will have spawned. Kill all of the following before you exit the arena: Infected, Thug, Suicider, Ram, Floater, Butcher.

Stick it to the enemy
Survive 15 consecutive waves using the analog combat controls.
It's weird that they left this one in on PC, as they took the base game's analog achievement out. This requires a controller, and for you to set the controls in the menu to analog. The way it works is you have to hold down Left Trigger, and use the Right Thumbstick to attack. You can avoid t hese mechanics by sticking to guns, kicks, and thrown weapons, however.

Fancy
Survive 10 consecutive waves using only custom weapons.
Just put a mod on your weapons, so you don't accidentally switch to something generic and screw this up. Avoid Molotovs and Grenades, as well as explosive barrels, punches, and kicks. IN short, pay attention to what you're doing, and only use a modded weapon.

Looking for trouble
Survive 5 waves in each of the 4 Arenas.
Simply survive the first 5 waves of each arena with your highest levelled character.

Gladiator school
Survive 15 consecutive waves with each of the 4 characters.
Arena A is the easiest. Complete it with all 4 characters.

Death Incarnate
Survive wave 30.
Best to do this on Arena A as it's the easiest. The higher level you are, the easier you'll have it. It's also easier to do this with a full co-op group, but finding even one person to tag along is difficult these days. Just have good weapons, and be at a very high (preferably max) level.

Wrap Up
Good luck in your achievement hunting!
