I'm talking about the generic sci-fi concept of the space marine, not a registered trademark of Games Workshop.

Those are two different franchises that don't co-exist in the same universe. They already have Marines in Halo, and a Marine is certainly not the same as a Spartan

Of course it's a Spartan. But a Spartan is, by definition, a space marine. Maybe complain to 20th Century Fox, Kenner, and Dark Horse for referring to the Colonial Marines as space marines in their Aliens line, if you're feeling quirky of course.

Yes. A "space marine" is a generic term for a space-faring trooper, no matter what Games Workshop wants you to believe, and has been used as such for generations.
