You can actually get as close to yourself as possible by just crouching. Go towards yourself while crouching and for some reason your past self won't notice you. It works for me.

i have a free mode save file where any time from 05/15/2014 06:00 till like the end of the day, just looking in the direction of pine lake brings you down to 3 fps
