This series of guides will show you how to unlock all of the Scream Fortress achievements available by playing the Helltower event. It will also give you details about the Witching Hour and the payload race.

This is a seasonal guide. Certain parts of this guide can't be completed unless the Scream Fortress event is going on. If you'd like to learn about the other Halloween events, read the guides below.

Helltower is a Payload Race map. It is a spooky overhaul of plr_hightower with Halloween themed visuals and sounds. Helltower also has a second layer to it, Hell, where players go once completing the payload race.





Pumpkin bombs are scattered throughout the map which explode when they are hit, damaging anybody standing around them.




Helltower also has a different style of health pack. They are themed as a cauldron, a pie box and a chocolate bar.






Launching TF2 during Scream Fortress will grant you a Spellbook Magazine. Players who have a spellbook equipped in their action slot can pick up and use spells which appear whenever the cart is pushed, a player dies, or when it's the "Witching Hour". These spells can vary from meteor showers, invisibility and more. You can cast a spell by clicking on your action slot key.





Completing the "Hat Out of Hell" achievement will earn you an Unfilled Fancy Spellbook. You can collect pages for your spellbook by completing the "Manntastic Four" achievement and by picking up the random Halloween gifts which appear around Helltower. Once you've added three pages to your Unfilled Fancy Spellbook it will turn into a Fancy Spellbook which can be equipped in your action slot as a replacement to the Spellbook Magazine. The Fancy Spellbook changes the particle effect that appears from your hand when casting a spell. There is no limit to how many pages you can add to your book.

Both teams will start with a coffin cart which contains the corpse of one of the Mann brothers. Players must push their team's respective cart until it reaches the end of the rails and to the top of the elevator. The first team to do this will win the race. The cart can be pushed by standing close to it.



Once one of the coffin carts has been delivered every player on the server will be teleported to Hell for a game of sudden death. The team who won the payload race will spawn in Hell with overheal. If you die in hell you cannot respawn, instead you'll turn into a ghost which you can control.

Located in Hell is an island with a large skull, this island is protected by a gate which will only open after a set amount of time.



On the island within the skull is a book protected by a cage. The cage will begin opening whenever a player is standing near it. The first team to collect the book will be declared the victor.



If nobody collects the book after a certain period of time everybody in hell will be instantly destroyed.

The Witching Hour is signified by the chiming clock tower bells. During the Witching Hour the Skeleton King and his minions have a chance of rising from the dead to attack members of both the Blu and Red team. When the Skeleton King is defeated he will drop a rare spell for a player to pickup.



Additionally, while it's the Witching Hour a spectral bridge will appear leading to the clocktower. Players can cross the bridge and walk into the floating book on the island to teleport back to spawn with speed boost, overheal and a rare spell.

Scattered throughout the map are pumpkins with explosives strapped to them. To earn the achievement hit one of these pumpkins when a player is standing close to one. This will cause the pumpkin to detonate, damaging the player standing near it.







Killing an enemy spy who is disguised as your current class will unlock this achievement. Spy-check anybody you see who is the same class as you.







The Ghasty Gibus Grab can be earned year round. Dominating any player wearing a Ghastly Gibus will earn you the achievement and your own Ghastly Gibus hat.







At random intervals a Halloween present will appear in one of two locations on the map if there are ten or more players on the server. You'll receive a personal alert letting you know the present has appeared. If you collect the present in time you will receive a Halloween themed item or a spellbook page.







Located on the clock tower island when it's not the Witching Hour is a ghost next to its fridge, If a player walks near it it will cause them to walk around vulnerable with ghosts floating around their heads. To earn this achievement simply kill somebody who is under this effect.







Winning 142 rounds of Helltower will earn you this achievement. In order to win a round you must defeat the other team in Hell by collecting the book first.







Personally collect the book from Skull Island in Hell to earn this achievement. Collecting the book will earn you an Unfilled Fancy Spellbook.







Be on the cart and win the payload race ten times to unlock this achievement. You don't have to win in Hell to get credit for this.







You can earn credit towards this achievement for killing a player by knocking them off the edge of the map in Hell.







When it's the Witching Hour skeletons will spawn and roam the map. To earn this achievement you must kill 99 of them.







Spellbooks which glow purple are considered rare spells. Collect and use one of these spells to earn the achievement. The spellbook on the clocktower during the Witching Hour is also considered rare.







Collect spells scattered throughout the map and use them to kill other players. You'll need to kill 25 players with spells to earn this achievement.







This achievement will unlock when you've completed four of the Helltower specific achievements. Completing this achievement will earn you a Spellbook Page.
