Distance 100% Achievement Guide 31/31
By Erik
This is a 100% Steam Achievement guide for Distance. The old guide is outdated and not supported. Tracking down much of this information was oftentimes difficult and time consuming. Rather than letting it go to waste strictly on myself, I compiled a list of notes for the achievements and am putting this guide together to share that information. (Control + F to search for a specific achievement.)

Thanks to all the sources and community made content which made this guide possible. In several cases I linked to another guide or video as those achievements require a level of explanation that is more appropriate then in this guide alone. If you made one of these guides or videos and would not like it linked here, please post a comment below and I will remove it.

Many of these achievements are straightforward and do not require much, if any, explanation. More so, most will come through simply playing the game on it's own. Others require a bit of effort and have multiple solutions, so feel free to try things on your own as well. The final three achievements in this guide are a bit spoiler heavy, so if you're interested in figuring them out on your own then I urge you to not read that section.

I will make every attempt to keep this Guide up to date. As of my current understanding, everything in this guide holds valid as of Patch v1.4. Any further questions, comments, or additional help I will do my best to answer here below.

Basic Driving

  1. Advanced Driver - Get a silver medal on a track
  2. Expert Driver - Get a gold medal on a track
  3. Driving Ace - Get a diamond medal on a track - This is the medal after Gold. Times for Diamonds are hidden in the menu, but you can look on the leaderboards to see what time is required.
  4. Self-Termination - Press the Reset button for the car - This probably shouldn't be an achievement.
  5. Split Personality - Get sliced by a laser
  6. Better than Sliced Bread - Slice off all wheels - This is the same as Split Personality but you need to slice off both sides of the car so no wheels remain. There are many tracks that have multiple lasers back to back, all of which will work fine.
The Next Step

  1. Adventurer - Finish the Adventure Campaign - This also unlocks the Archive car model.
  2. Speed Runner - Finish the Adventure Campaign in 1 hour - This is not as difficult as it first may sound. Your second run through (if not your first) you won't have any issues.
  3. Moving Forward - Finish Cataclysm in the Adventure campaign
  4. Blast from the Past - Finish the Lost to Echoes campaign
  5. Keymaster - Unlock all official levels
  6. Gold Collector - Get Gold medals on all Adventure levels in Sprint - This also unlocks the Halcyon car model.
  7. Millionaire - Earn 5,000,000 lifetime eV - This will happen naturally over the course of playing by virtue of all the flying, wallrides, and tricks you will be doing.
Getting Somewhere

  1. Still Alive - Complete Overload without dying
  2. Grounded Departure - Finish Entanglement without wings - This requires using gripfly instead of regular flying. This is a video of the most straightforward approach:
  3. Meet Your Rival - Finish an online match
  4. Welcome to the Family - Play a Workshop level
  5. World Traveler - Complete 10 Workshop maps
  6. Big Brother - Break a camera drone's screen - There are several throughout the campaign. If you hear what sounds like a camera taking a picture of you, then that is what you're looking for. A camera drone is nearby, just fly into it and break it. Alternatively, the first level in the Legacy campaign (in Arcade), Broken Symmetry has one as well:
    Thanks to Danny Burke.
No Rest for the Weary

  1. Trackmogrifier - Play a Trackmogrify track
  2. Cheat the System - Beat a Trackmogrify track in less than 10 seconds - There are many words and combinations that can work, for example: shortshortshortshortshort.
  3. Rampage - Break apart 15 street lights in a level - Using the keyword "breakable" in Trackmogrify will create a track with many street lights. Fly into 15 of them, no hurries.
  4. Wordsmith - Discover 10 keywords in Trackmogrify - Here is a link to an alternate guide that showcases the various possibilities:
    https://gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=602953488 Thanks to Rhys!
  5. Down But Not Out - Narrowly miss the kill grid then hit a checkpoint - While there are many sections that can work, I found the start on the Arcade map Candles of Hekate to be easiest. The start entails a gripfly over a gap (as wings are disabled) with a kill grid just below where you will be flying. Not only will you be able to practice gripflying, but it's at the start so works well if you need to reset and has a checkpoint immediately after the gap.
  6. Pumpkin King - Break all pumpkins in Spooky Town - This also unlocks the Encryptor car model. Here is a link to a guide by Starns, thanks:
    https://gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=438581252
  7. The Long Grind - Complete a grind of 250 meters or more - The first track in the Arcade has a useful long straightaway at the start. Wait until you are halfway to the first checkpoint so as not to overheat, then rotate the car upside down and boost (upside down so you see sparks) until you pass 250 meters. Thanks to Skexer.
  8. + 9. Ninja in Training - Complete a wallride of 250 meters or more - AND - Six Figures - Land a trick over 100,000 eV - Use the keywords "extremely long upsidedown boring" in Trackmogrify. Just driving upside down on this track while holding grip will cause your point meter to increase the entire time. You still need to snake back and forth to earn enough points, turning around is also a possiblity. Thanks to HTTP Error 418: I'm a teapot. Alternatively, for the 100,000 eV you can practice tricks in stunt mode and look for point multipliers (not easy).
Spoiled Crabs

These are generally puzzle, exploration, hidden type achievements. If you are a stickler about wanting to find these out on your own, then do not read further. There are various hints that you can find to get it done alone. Nonetheless, for the sake of completeness, my intrepid readers, I will provide the final three achievements. *Please note that in-game cheats must be disabled for these achievements to register.
  1. Vendor Bender - FInd pieces from the past in Lost to Echoes - This is the method for unlocking the Interceptor car model, which was the car model in Nitronic Rush, the predecessor game to Distance. It involves finding a piece of the car model in each of the levels in the Lost to Echoes campaign. These must be played in the Campaign section and not the Arcade.
    Thanks to CyberCobra

  2. The Other Side - skuttling, skuttling, skuttling... - This is a complex achievement that involves finding a crab (yes a crab) in each of the levels in the Lost to Echoes campaign. It is recommended to play in the Campaign mode and not the Arcade mode as this is required for a couple tracks. If you have questions concerning specific paths, please ask. If all else fails, follow the specific path taken in the video. After finding each of the crab pieces, a new Campaign comprising one massive level opens up called "The Other Side". Completing this new campaign level will award this achievement. Easier said than done.
Thanks to Omaneye for his impressive work.

  3. Worthy - Earn the approval of the Elders - Without going into too much detail, this involves finding the secrets on the campaign level, The Other Side, that was opened in the previous achievement. Good luck!
    Thanks again to Omaneye!
Happy Hunting!

when I use the speedrun timer, it glitched out and set itself to 10 hours further on abyss.

I'm trying to do the Speed Runner achievement but I don't know were to do it. Is it just normal campaign or campaign plus or arcade?

For the Speed Runner achievement, I'm not really a pro but I like to get Gold on most of the levels. I set a 1 hour timer, I died a few times (I'd say 10-15 times), and I finished Adventure in about 54 minutes, so I had some time left.

Just wanted to share that info for those who feel pressured going for the achievement.

Thanks! It's good to vent now and again and I don't necessarily disagree with you. I usually look at achievements as extras after I finish my playthroughs and only go for 100% if I get really into the game. Distance ranks fairly high up there for difficulty in completing them, no doubt.

Wanna Know what The Other Side made me realize? For some reason, it's like every indie game creator feels the need to add some "end all be all challenge" that has a reward behind it. A Hat in Time does it, Hollow Knight does it, Celeste probably does it, Dead Cells definitely has it, VVVVVV has it, and that's just scraping the barrel. Really makes you think why literally every indie game dev does something like this or feels the need to put an achievement behind it without making it entirely optional.

At this point, it's pretty much overdone to the point where it's predictable. Hell, even ULTRAKILL with its Prime Sanctums and Pizza Tower with its P-Rank are no different.

Sorry about that. Had to vent a little. Other than that, though, not a bad guide. Although it's a little hard to follow the videos when the guy is doing all these crazy tricks when I'm just trying to get to the crabs and collect them...

@mrmarcelluswallace It's been awhile and I can't recall off the top of my head exactly where they are. I do remember hearing the sound of them a good amount of times throughout the campaign though. If you do manage to locate one that doesn't require a track unlock feel free to reply back and I'd happily add it to the guide. Sounds like something useful.

Does anyone have a tip for getting the big brother achievement in another mpa than broken symmetry? It seems that it is no longer "the very first map" and you have to tediously unlock it...

@Qamok sorry for late reply. I actually spelled it wrong in the guide, it's Candles of Hekate, with a k and not a c. My bad. https://gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=504676792&searchtext=candles Apologies if you moved on already.

I dont see "Candles of Hecate" map in arcade, could you suggest other spot for Down But Not Out achieve?

This was helpful, was able to get 100% completion thanks :)
