A Somber and Respectful Note:
This guide is, sadly, still relavent. Ogay's safe, for now, but the Fagbag's about to get the boot. Those who are not into ball torture, read on.
Blocking Future Updates
1.
In your Games Library, right-click Ion Fury, then click Properties.

2.
Under the Updates tab, set Automatic updates to "Only update this game when I launch it".

3.
Under the Local files tab, click "Browse local files..."

4.
In your installation directory, select the files fury.def, fury.exe, fury.grp, and fury.grpinfo.
Right-click your selection, then click Properties.

5.
In the Properties window, check the "Read-only" box, and click Apply.

Bypassing Potential Mandatory Updates
1.
Download eDuke32 from the official website.[dukeworld.com]

2.
Extract the eDuke32 archive into your Ion Fury installation directory.

3.
Launch eDuke32.exe, configure it to your liking, and give the game a spin.

4.
Once you've configured everything to your liking, untick the "Always show this window at startup" box.

!!!

From here, you have a pair of options:
  1. Launching eDuke32 through Steam from a shortcut, which we'll pretty up just a bit for your Library,
    or,
  2. Simply renaming eduke32.exe to fury.exe, replacing the original so that launching Ion Fury from your Steam library will do so through eDuke32.

Replacing the original executable will let you run the game from its original Steam Library entry, which will retain its UI elements and shortcuts. This will, however, disable screenshots and other community features.

If option 1 sounded good to you, continue on to Step 5. Otherwise, get your replacing done and skip to the next section.

5.
In Steam, under the Games tab, click "Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library..."

Click Browse...

Navigate to your Ion Fury installation directory and select eDuke32.exe

In the Add a Game window, make sure eDuke32 is present and checked, then click "Add selected programs".

6.
In your library, find eDuke32 and right-click it, then click Properties.

In Properties, click "Choose Icon..."

You may choose to select the original fury.exe to use its icon, but in some systems this will place a shortcut arrow over the icon in your library.
I've gone ahead and extracted the icon for you. Aren't I nice?

Save this image.
Back in your "Choose Icon..." window, change the "File type:" drop-down box from "Program Files (*.exe)" to "Image Files (*.tga, *.png)".

Navigate to wherever you downloaded the image and select it. Unless you chose to rename it, the file should be named 1840872299_preview_IconFury.png.

Back in properties, change the title of your shortcut from eduke32 to whatever you like. To avoid confusion, you probably don't want to title this shortcut Ion Fury. I went with Ion Maiden, myself.

Looking good!
Restoring the Original Title
1.
Get the Ion Maiden Title Mod from ModDB. (Thank the fellow who made it, while you're there.)

2.
Extract TitlePatch.7z to your installation directory.

3.
In your Steam Library, right-click either your eDuke32 shortcut or Ion Fury, depending on how you decided to proceed in the previous section, and click Properties.
In Properties, click "Set launch options...".
In the text entry that appears, enter
-mh TrueName.def
then click OK.

4.
Launch the game. You'll know if you did it right straight away.

5. (Optional)
If you'd like to launch the game with the original title outside of Steam, make a shortcut to your eDuke32 executable, however you've named it, and add the launch argument to the end of your shortcut's "Target:" field, like so:

Didn't mind the og jokes, but this is a shit ton of work for something that really doesn't matter, and kinda can cause more problems than anything else.

@MDK: It's the same process we've seen for 15 years, now. These... people flock to a site or game because it's popular, change it until none of the appeal remains, lament that the site/game died "for some reason" (typically blaming the people they, themselves, drove out) and then repeat the process.

I wasn't offended by the original content, but it's always nice to see guides like this one catering to butthurt gamers who cry over such minor changes. Gotta keep fighting for your right to be a dick, after all.
