Description
Disclaimer regarding Timelines DLC: it is my policy that all current DLCs are required for my (major) mods, Timelines is not an exception, however, scenarios in Timelines were not updated for VRO balance, it's practically impossible to do due to hand-crafted nature of them.
Instead, with VRO on a new game or save load all blueprints closed behind completing scenarios will be granted for free.
If you want to play through Timelines, please do so in vanilla, all unlocks/progress will work with VRO as well.

NOTE: there is an alternative version on Nexus mods that does not require you to have Timeliens DLC, for those who want to continue old saves without it, it includes the latest changes but will not be updated or supported further and is provided as is as a standalone download. https://www.nexusmods.com/x4foundations/mods/305?tab=files

TL;DR
VRO is a major overhaul to how combat is implemented with the aim to make it more varied, enjoyable, less player-centric and less arcadey (to my taste at least). This is done by changing parameters of every ship, weapon, missile, engine, shield as well as adding numerous new weapons, missiles and even a few ships. The main drive for me to create VRO was that I felt the huge potential in X4 and how its made, where the player can have a real impact on the universe. Some aspects of the game also felt very underwhelming to me, specifically how combat felt, and I was struggling to get the best enjoyment from the game. New and updated weapons, ships, general combat overhaul and "feel" of combat mechanics is the focus of the VRO.

@Noir - I'm not the modder or anything, but I imagine the long range limitations is more of a game engine limitation. Simulating real-life weapon ranges in a game like this would probably make the code twist into a Gordian knot and lock the game up. Just my educated guess tho.

the longest range one i've seen is 20km which is still really short considering what we have today. Same with missiles.

@Noir, thanks, but are you sure you are not confusing some 3rd party mod guns with VRO guns? most capital ship-grade weapons have ranges well beyond 10km

I really like this mod. Overall, I give it 10/10. My only peeve is weapon ranges, specifically for capital ships and large turrets. Why are they so short? It looks so comical sometimes seeing these huge ships getting so close just to take pot shots at each other.

@Ar-do because your ships dont have internal generators that are added by VRO, because you loaded an old save most probably, this is NOT supported.

You should read the description before:

This mod alters how shields are managed.

Give it a try with a new game.

I decided to try this and have been using it for a few days. I found that my shields basically don't recharge. Unless you wait a few minutes. So 10 seconds into a fight and you have no shields then the rest of the fight no shields as the regen is 10/s on my small fighter I use. That's all well and good but I don't like it at all. Tried to remove it and found that now I have to play with it on or lose the last 4 days as I can't load the saves that were from when I had this on... I am extremely irritated. Basically ruined my game. :steamthumbsdown:
