Introduction
These are just a few pieces of poetry, created for a bit of amusement after playing the game "Fallout Shelter".

(If you liked some of these writings, then please rate this guide upwards.)

In our fallout shelter
This is how we live now,
In a bunker — in the ground,
Trying to avoid the radiation
And the mutants roaming ’round

We make our own electricity,
And have a water supply as well —
For we’re fairly self-sufficient
In this bunker in which we dwell

We have old folk close to dying
And women who are giving birth,
As the circle of life continues
Inside our home, deep in the earth

Foragers go out into the badlands,
Looking for various things we need;
The Overseer tells them to be careful
And to return home with all speed

So, here we are, in our bunker,
Because to live down here we must,
But we have a great community
— And in the Overseer we trust.

Things are okay
In our fallout shelter things are okay —
Except when the mutant animals invade,
For then we have to rush to our guns
And fight very hard to stop their raid

The giant cockroaches are nasty things,
Who come slithering up, out of the ground,
But they don’t like to be shot in the face
— RPGs are the best, we’ve found

But the mutants which we hate the most
Are the huge and tank-like giant moles —
They tunnel through the earth around us
And then attack us from out of their holes

With all of our shotguns, and our rifles,
We can fight any raiders coming to loot,
And with flamethrowers and bazookas,
We’re always prepared and ready to shoot!

Bunker basics
We’re living inside a big bunker,
Deep down, far under the ground,
Eating the cave-grown mushrooms
And the green moss that we’ve found

We’re not at all living the high life,
With morning tea, and playing croquet,
But inside of our deep-set shelter
Things are now actually quite okay

We’re producing power and water,
Along with some cafeteria food —
So it’s enough to keep you going,
If you’ve got the right attitude.

Ode to the miners
Building a large fallout shelter
Can be relatively rough;
You have to work long hours
And be quite physically tough

If you’re digging a long tunnel,
Or enlarging an existing cave,
There’s always a danger of rock falls,
So you certainly need to be brave

If a cave wall, or a roof, collapses
It has to be cleared with crowbar and pick,
And if someone’s trapped underneath
You really have to work at it quick

So, when you’re living down in a shelter,
Eating in the fancy underground diners,
Just remember those who built them —
And that our thanks are owed to the miners.

Survivors
We survived the dropping of atomic bombs,
We’re the last remnants of a great nation,
For now we’re safe here under the ground,
Hiding from the ill-effects of radiation

We’re busy keeping our shelter running,
Working hard, we all do our best,
Whether growing food, purifying water,
Or going outside on a dangerous quest

We miss our cities, and our homes,
We miss the warmth of the sun above —
But we strive to keep things going,
As we’re doing it for the ones we love.
Stationed at the entrance
I’m a young soldier in a fallout shelter,
Stationed in the entrance room all day,
And if any of those raiders come to attack,
Then they won’t be walking away

Some raiders reckon they’re big and mean,
They think that they’re braver and bolder —
But all of them quickly lay down and die
When I use the bazooka upon my shoulder

It’s the Deathclaws that I hate the most,
They don’t care if the door’s made of metal;
They just rip right through it quite quickly,
As if it was a delicate little flower petal

Last month a Deathclaw savaged me severely,
I was saved by a medic, who was b*tchin’,
That’s why I want a transfer from here,
So I can go down and work in the kitchen.

Note: The last word in the third-last line (b*tchin’) had to be censored, due to the automatic censorship algorithms on Steam, which would otherwise render it unreadable (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥’).
The word was not used here as a swear word, but as the slang term where "b*tchin’" means "good", "excellent" or "superior".

A Fallout Shelter love story
The following poem was written in line with a brief story I wrote in reply to a post in the Steam forums about Fallout Shelter.
The original post was entitled “How do I manage Dwellers’ Happiness?”
https://gtm.you1.cn/app/588430/discussions/0/1327844097112040908/

A player by the name of MattShaneWorkman said:
Some people just have bad days, I started a game and everyone was initially happy except this red headed chick, so I sent her out into the wasteland. If you aint here to be about it, then get your ♥♥♥♥♥ outside and get your mind right and come back damn...

In response, for a bit of amusement, I replied:
She was the love of my life.
We were planning on getting married.

She was a bit down, because we couldn’t have a traditional church wedding; but she would have cheered up soon enough.

We had arranged to meet in the lounge one day after work, to finalise our wedding plans. But she never turned up.
I never heard from her again. In the end, I figured that she must have thought that I wasn’t the one for her, and must have left me, and left the Vault.
It broke my heart.

But I never knew for sure what happened to her.
Until now. You sent her away.

I’ll never forgive you.

It was upon the basis of that little story that, almost two years later, the poem was written.

A Fallout Shelter love story

I was having lunch in the cafeteria
When in walked this redheaded girl;
I fell in love with her at first sight,
My mind was dazed and all awhirl

So I plucked up all of my courage,
Went over, and started talking;
She liked me, and I liked her,
And soon we were together walking

Things then progressed quite quickly,
We talked of our plans for marriage,
Of having a bright future together,
And of building a new baby carriage

* * * * * * *

Before the wedding, we’d arranged to meet,
To confer about her taking my name —
But she didn’t turn up, she’d disappeared;
To our intended nuptials, she never came

What had happened? What had gone wrong?
I'd thought that my future was in clover —
But instead of that, everything was ruined,
— It felt like my life was truly over

* * * * * * *

It took me some time, but I found out
She’d been sent off on a classified mission;
It was a last-minute and urgent operation
To go and get the secrets of nuclear fission

It ended badly — in the Wasteland she died,
She passed, and crossed to the final shore;
She was my bride-to-be, the love of my life,
But now I’ll see her never no more

* * * * * * *

Farewell my love, my beautiful darling,
You were the reason for my every endeavour;
But still I live on, feeling empty and sad,
Oh, my sweetheart, I’ll love you forever.

Note: The line "But now I’ll see her never no more" is a hat-tip to the Patsy Cline song "Never No More".
Is there someone there?
The air is still, the whole building is quiet,
There’s not a single soul to be found;
But, wait a minute, something’s not right,
In the distance, there’s an odd little sound

There’s a small tingle on the back of your neck,
You look all around, alert for some danger,
Your ears prick up, was that a faraway noise?
Perhaps close by is a mysterious stranger

The corridors are empty, there’s no-one in sight
— Of any human life, there’s no indication;
So you settle back down, amused at yourself,
Placing blame on a fearful imagination.

Note: For those not familiar with the game Fallout Shelter, every now and then players will hear an odd little noise, which indicates that a “mysterious stranger” has arrived. He is dressed in a trench coat and looks like a spy; if players can find the mysterious stranger within a short time period, and click on him, then they’ll receive some bonus money.

There once was a Vault Dweller poet
Who'd find two words that rhymed and then go it
but this romantic fool
fell in love with a ghoul
Now he says "no more verse I'll just glow it!"

You did it better than Beatrice ever could've even attempted to.

now that was music. You should make a video of you singing them while showing footage of scenes related to the lines. I would certainly watch it!
