It's not a particularly hard trick to do, and explaining it takes longer than the actual execution. If you want to try it out yourself, the Grail Point at the Spring in the Sky is a perfect place to give it some practice, as there's a two screen long ladder to caltrop boost off of.
Also, the Caltrops can be used to skip the Anchor sidequest completely. It's ridiculous how easy that skip is.
It's actually been a really long time since I've touched this guide. The WRs for Any% and now 100% ACE are wicked outdated.
Nice job! I might use this someday!
Yeah.. I used to use that glitch to get the flail too; the fight was Kamaitachi with the flail whip was a joke with only one ending - near instant death. I actually found the post you made to this guide on the SDA forums =P I was interested in getting into the community after watching AGDQ, and wondering if La-Mulana was a game that people were as interested in as I was.
Speaking of that specific glitch, older versions of the game are about a minute faster. I think the current World Record Single Segment last I heard clocks in at about 1 hour 44 minutes and change. But you're definitely close enough that you might be able to challenge that.
You may want to also join the La-Mulana speedrun discussion over on Speed Demos Archive Forums as well. (Note that it also includes the original version too) https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/lamulana.html
Using the Pistol on the second form of Baphomet though knocks out a little more than half her remaining HP. It makes the fight a LOT safer and more consistent. Especially useful if she teleports high on either the left, right, or center sides. The center high especially, because that one just wastes time. (especially if she does the lightning attack, that's a good 10 seconds lost)
