how to insure a smooth ride through the game

using notes while using this game would make for poor learning.
using the game alone without notes through sheer trial and error is possible and educational but that would make for a slow and bumpy ride through the game.
this guide will tell you how to learn and smoothly go through the game.

walkthrough

step 1: go through the in game lesson allowing it to introduce you to the hiragana, stopping just before the quiz

step 2: go to this guide www.tofugu.com/japanese/learn-hiragana and go to the section describing the hiragana you just learned and study the images to help you remember the hiragana and what they stand for

step 3: go to here realkana.com/hiragana go to hiragana tab and select the ones you just learned, go to study tab, go through the whole set and repeat until you can do so 3 times in a row without getting any wrong or peeking at the answer or even make any typos

step 4: if applies, add the ten-ten versions of the hiraganas and study again until you can go thorugh all of them 3 times in a row without getting any wrong or peeking at the answer or even making any typos

step 5: add the newly learned hiraganas to the total pool of learned hiraganas and study yet again the whole set until you go through them 3 times in a row without getting any wrong or peeking at the answer or even making any typos

step 6: return to the game to complete the quiz and continue playing allowing the game to further drill the hiraganas into your head until you reach the next in game lesson where you return to step one

optional 1: you may use this guide (gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=850165659) to better play the non learning portion of the game

optional 2: to pace yourself, when you reach the next in game lesson, you can save and stop until the next day allowing your sleeping brain to better install what you have learned.

realkana is faster way to actually learn hiragana, thank you for guide. I had issues with learning and memorizing hiragana because it's not used that often as katakana

just want to say i that i do indeed recommend writing it down at least one time and make notes, you could even write it down ten times if you want. i was just saying that you should try to recall them without the need to check your notes every time. i worried that some people would struggle to learn on the game alone and might quit out of frustration, so i made this guide to provide these resources to help people finish this game.

I already learned the Hiragana the old fashioned way before playing this game but I am still very thankful for the resources (links) you added. d(^w^ )

This is not the most ideal guide for the game. You MUST take notes and practice writing the hiragana to better memorize it.

i currently use drolingo to help as a companion with this it teaches the basics and gives more pratice

what i did was use this in conjuction with a mobile app called kawaiinihiongo i think it was, which definetely helped.

Okay maybe it's just me... But hiragana really isn't as hard as this is making it seem. For me making notes was more than enough to remember most hiragana with ease. This is good for polishing your knowledge but saying "only taking notes would make for poor learning" just seems wrong.

I just use the Write Japanese app from Jernung on my phone to practice while I'm outside of the game, just repeat the hiragana I just learned in the game a few times in it and when I'm away from my pc, and then blast through the hiragana encounters in game the next time I boot it up

Actually, using notes does help and there's a ton of research proving this. However, there is a point where you should stop using your notes and try to recall things from memory. Also, there are languages out there that require the use of notes due to the complexity of the language. While taking Latin I in high school, it took me almost the entire first year to memorize the conjugation and declension charts because there's different ways to write the words depending on declension and conjugation as well as if it's present tense, past tense, future tense, etc.

While using tofugu can be helpful, the fact that they tell you not to write things down hurts their credibility because muscle memory assists with learning things faster for a lot of people and to tell them not to do this alienates them and causes them to give up when they struggle to learn things without writing them down. My example about Latin is one case where their suggestion is horrible advice.
