The God of Lightining!
By Count Flandy
This Zeus build REQUIRES you to mid. So don't try to lane as Zeus with this guide! This is also my first guide, so any feedback to improve this would be amazing. Every spell and item listed for use is labled, with a recommendation, and is explained what it does.

Updated on 3/9/2014 with new ability build and new recommended items.

Thanks for the feedback, this guide is quite old so I've not refined it with what I've learned recently. Mostly because Zeus is such a weird hero.

As for the bottle, I wish I could play Zeus more to refine what situational start items should be used, but I don't. I'd assume 3 branches and a pulled tango at least. But, that's just me guessing. I like to gank and harass the midlaner out of mid as much as I can, so that's why I liked to get a bottle (before its price was changed.)

And I made the skill build a long time ago, I've been looking to also change it up, but as I've said I don't have much of a chance to play Zeus, unless I get lucky with picks in AP or something. 2 lvls in chain lightining is more than enough though.

I really like shadowblade, only if you don't have any invis heros on your team. I only use it to run in and catch people, never to escape. Because dust catches you super easily. And I've never tried an offlane Zeus, so I really can't comment on it.

Earlier on, what is optimal is to use Chain Lightning to create space in lane, then use autoattack to last hit to conserve mana for when your opponent regens back up, at which point you can easily drive them back again. As mentioned before, repeated use also pushes the lane too far, which opens you up to easy ganks or even a solo kill from mid if they have a good rune.

I love the Shadow Blade idea. Too easily countered though xD

I've pulled off a successful offlane Zeus before using the same skill progression, but with focus on early and cheap harass (I maxed Static Field instead of Lightning Bolt first, which is stupid in most situations). Instead of Bottle, build for an early Oblivion Staff/Perseverance to sustain yourself in lane. You can build a Headdress if you're the one building Mekansm to help you survive the lane. You HAVE TO make sure the enemy can not pull creeps to make laning safer, and more so to make sure you get your levels.

Hi there, found your guide through the Kommunity group. Thanks for taking the time to write a guide for Zeus. I do have some comments, please forgive me if I am blunt, no flaming intended.

Firstly, bottle early does not help you in lane as much as stats and regen would. All it takes is a good creep block and heavy harass to force you to use your charges. It is much better to go into lane with proper stats and regen, then get a fast bottle.

Get only one level of Chain lightning early to help you last hit. The extra bounces are worthless early game, and you do not want to push your lane too much with the extra damage. Earlier levels of Static Field help you get off a lot more free harass on the opposing hero, which makes laning that much easier. Of course, still max Lightning Bolt first.
