General information.
Fishing is done in the Open World areas by means of specific Fishing Spears.
These spears may be purchased from Fisher Hai-luk in Cetus starting at 500 standing.
Some fish require specific spears in order to be caught in one hit, while others may be caught with more than one. In this guide, the best spear will always be listed first, but any listed spear should catch that fish in one hit.

While any fish may possibly come out within their respective windows it is highly recommended to use bait where applicable. Fish without listed baits are common enough and should not need any.
Baits have increasing costs the farther you go. Requiring resources from less rare fish. Most baits require Fish meat and Maprico. The meat comes from any fish, the fruit are from short tree-like bushes.

When Fishing for 'Fish with Specific Baits' it is recommended to find applicable hotspots; which are areas in which small ripples form on their own. These ripples will happen sporadically in a small area, and after some time will stop. They look like this:

As of U22.6.1 Bait, Dyes, and Pharoma are all thrown items and the effects apply to everyone in the squad.

Ponds
Ponds refer to any landlocked body of water aside from the lake There are some bodies of water too small or too shallow for fishing. As rule of thumb if you can wade through the center of the pond; it's too small. To test a Pond properly, Hold and aim a spear for a few seconds while standing nearby; A body of water that may be fished in will produce gurgling sounds and a low drum beat.

Plains Fish by Standing
I don't use fish for standing myself, but in the Standing:time ratio of all activities that earn you standing, Fishing would be the top (with certain criteria: Fishing at night with the most expensive bait).

Low Standing
These fish just aren't worth the effort if going for standing; use them for Oil/scales/Fish tank.

25 for small, 35 for medium, 50 for Large.

Medium Standing
These Fish are better; but if you are low ranking; Mortis Lungfish are both Easy to accumulate in large numbers and worth a fair bit IN those large number. Simply fish Any pond at night, no bait required.

100 for small, 125 for medium, 200 for Large.

High Standing
These fish are more difficult to come by, and require bait to get any decent number of them. You'll typically need their resources over any standing they earn.

Top Standing
Nothing earns more than the Glappid. And since only the highest level Operator Arcanes use the resource you may find you can fish for these guys and earn a nice little stockpile of standing for days you don't have much time to grind out bounties. Just be warned the Bait isn't cheap and reserved for top rank.

Fortuna - Orb Vallis
The Orb Vallis presents us with a Shock spear for catching robotic fish without damaging them. Using plains spears will result in only "basic" or lowest level fish. The second tier Shockspear, The Stunna, will stun nearby robotic fish for about 20s and increase the size of the sweet-spot zone. The three tiers of fish are Basic<Adorned<Magnificent. Current testing shows no difference in where within the sweet spot on the fishing bar produces better results. The amount of standing earned when Providing these 'fish' to Fortuna is influenced by their rank, however there is little difference in parts obtained when dismantling them.

The Time of day in Orb Vallis is attributed to the temperature; Opening the advanced map (Hold M) will show a sort of clock in the bottom right showing warm or cold. Warm lasts 4 min, Cold lasts 22 min, so focusing on the warm fish when available is prudent. Caves are not affected by temperature (Time of day).

Hot Spots in the Orb Vallis look similar to Aurora Borealis with little shining vertical lights. The lighter area just above the reticle in the image below.

Cave hotspots are a little harder to identify with steam and other gasses floating about, Look for the vertical lights.

Orb Vallis brings us new baits as well; These Baits are single use purchase without crafting. Baits Will Not bring fish out if the Temp(time) is not right. They do, however, heavily increase the number of fish around for a short time.

The Orange outlines the Lake. The blue circles show caves with fishable water, Green denotes caves in which I have encountered Hotspots. The Red circle is a bugged cave, I found a hotspot in here but the fish spawn underneath the pond making them untouchable.

I love this guide; update for deimos?
TheRedVelvetyFox 5 Sep, 2020 @ 12:06pm
that's unfortunate, your guide has helped me deal with many hours of grinding, I do hope the game returns to a point that you will want to return to it. Thank you for all the help you have provided already and ill just keep an eye out for a different guide for the drift

No, I've since dropped warframe due to poor devwork and have no intention on picking it back up again.
TheRedVelvetyFox 27 Aug, 2020 @ 8:00pm
will this guide be updated with the drift fishing information at some point?

Rawilow 28 Jul, 2019 @ 7:29am
Can't Murkray be fished day and night?
imax 7 Jan, 2019 @ 2:41pm
Synthaids are worth 600, 800 and 1000 standing.
Dazper 14 Nov, 2018 @ 10:49pm
The bug where the spear doesnt even show the fish's names (son you can´t hit them no matther what) i've found to be fixed, like most things, with changing weapon, quick melee and then the spear again- I had that thing almost 5 times in the maybe 5 hours i've spent fishing on caves- the quick fix allowed me to catch the Synathoid and lots of Charamote (which is a lot more coomon, it seems)
