Guide missing a fix?
Feel free to comment if you know of a fix that isn't listed on this guide!
When I close the game, I can't re-open it! / Steam can't refund it due to too much playtime!
Out of all the Storm games on Steam, Storm 1 is the only port to have this issue. When you close the game, there's a small chance that it will still run in the background of your computer.

When this happens, Steam still sees the game as "running", even though you aren't playing it. To avoid this to start, you need to open your Task Manager and look for any process containing these words:
  • qwant
  • nsuns
  • naruto

When you find any process like that, right click it and click "End task".

In the event Steam can't offer you a refund due to going over the 2-hour limit, there isn't much I can help on that one. Explain to them that the game has this bug and clarify that you did not spend over 2 hours in-game. You may be able to still get a refund, but I can't make any guarantees.
I can't exit the Controller Configuration menu!
The Storm Trilogy remasters (S1/2/3HD) all support XInput and DInput gamepads. The difference between them is that XInput is usually an Xbox 360 / Xbox One controller (Some PC-specific pads use XInput as well), while DInput is a "generic" controller.

Check to make sure no gamepads are plugged into your computer, and you aren't using applications similar to these ones:
  • VJoy
  • X360CE
  • DS4Windows
  • SCPToolkit
  • Other apps that emulate or add gamepad functionality

In the event you use an app such as X360CE or DS4Windows for compatibility, please refrain from using these apps. Instead, Steam has built-in settings that allow you to use any USB controller as an XInput controller.

  1. Click "Steam" on the top left corner of the Steam client
  2. Click "Settings"
  3. Click the "Controller" tab
  4. Click "General Controller Settings" (You should see your gamepad appear shortly)
  5. Close the General Controller Settings window
  6. [/list]If you do not use a controller, please ensure the above software listed is not installed on your PC. If you are 100% sure that you don't have any controllers plugged in and you don't have any of the above programs, unplug every single USB from your PC besides your keyboard and mouse, then run the game.If the game proceeds to show the controller configuration menu, please ensure your mouse or keyboard does not contain "gamepad-like" functions that can be read as DInput by your computer. If they do, you will need to open your Device Manager and disable those functions (Under "Human Interface Devices").If the game does not show the controller configuration menu, proceed to close the game, plug in a USB that you previously unplugged, and launch the game again. Do this until you get the menu, and you will see which device your PC sees as a "DInput Gamepad".
The game softlocks / freezes while music still plays!
This tends to happen at random, and seems to happen less as you continue playing. Nobody knows yet why this happens, and Bandai Namco refuses to patch it. If you happen to come across this and are able to refund the game, that's your best bet.
I clicked "Save" and the game didn't save!
This is an issue that only seems to affect Storm 1. When you save, it doesn't always say "Saved" and instead only says "Saving". When it does that, that means it didn't save, even if it didn't tell you it didn't save.

The solution to this would be to keep saving until it says "Saved". If that doesn't work, turn off Steam Cloud Sync for this game.
Achievements aren't unlocking for me!
VS Battle achievements are known to be bugged in this game, so the way to unlock them is to plug in two controllers and complete them on a 2P VS Battle.

Some others have reported that running the game BEFORE plugging in your controller can sometimes make your keyboard P1 and your controller P2. Also, pressing Enter on keyboard when in the Title Screen helps to do this as well.
Why is the game locked to 30FPS?
The game should normally run at 60FPS by default. Just in case, go to C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/QWANT and open config.ini. If it says fps=0, change it to fps=1.

If you have the game's Vsync turned on, try turning it off and see if that works. If it fixes your framerate, go into your Nvidia/AMD control panels (If you have an Nvidia/AMD GPU) and the Vsync there should work.

If disabling Vsync doesn't help, your PC might not be powerful enough to play at 60fps. Having the minimum requirements means you can run the game at the lowest settings, so make sure your PC is powerful enough to run the settings you're on.
I'm running an Nvidia or AMD GPU, but the game still lags!
If you have an Nvidia GPU:
1) Go to your NVIDIA control panel.
2) Go to Manage 3D Settings.
3) Go to "Global Settings"
4) Under select the preferred graphics processor for this program select High-performance NVIDIA processor.

If you have an AMD GPU:
1) Go to your Radeon Settings
2) Go to “Preferences”, then click on "Radeon Additional Settings".
3) Under "Power" settings (at the left bar), click "Switchable Graphics Application Settings", Navigate to the NARUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM Directory and select nsuns1.exe. If you played the game recently it should be available on “Recent Applications”. Change the graphics settings to “High Performance”.

If your game still lags after this, try changing your power settings on your computer.
1) Go to your Control Panel (Windows 10 tries to get you to use settings instead. Don't use that app, make sure it's specifically control panel.)
2) Search "Power" and click "Power Options" when it appears.
3) Click "High Performance"

If that STILL doesn't work, try turning down your graphics settings by pressing Y (O on keyboard) on the Title Screen.

Specifically, all anti-aliasing options and motion blur are unoptimized for most hardware configurations. Turning those off usually fixes the issue.

I highly recommend AGAINST changing your FPS to 30FPS because it changes timings in the game that aren't ideal. If you don't care about this and can't even run the game at the lowest settings:
1) Right click the game in your Steam Library.
2) Click Properties and go to Local Files tab
3) Click "Browse Local Files"
4) Open config.ini
5) Change fps=1 to fps=0
6) Save the file and run the game.

And lastly, I highly recommend AGAINST any "No Shadow" fixes. While they were convenient for Storm 4 (Back when shadows took up 2GB VRAM), it also caused tons of crashing problems for people and outright didn't work for others. Now, the engine is more optimized for low end hardware, so there's no point to using this fix as it only hurts more than it helps.
I don't meet the minimum requirements, can I still run it?
There's still a chance you can run these games fine, but this isn't a guarantee.

First and foremost, change your power settings.
1) Go to your Control Panel (Windows 10 tries to get you to use settings instead. Don't use that app, make sure it's specifically control panel.)
2) Search "Power" and click "Power Options" when it appears.
3) Click "High Performance"

To check if you can run it, press Y on the Title Screen (O on keyboard) and set all the settings to their lowest choice. Then, restart the game and see if it runs at full speed.

If it does:
1) Start raising your resolution setting one by one (Restarting the game between each change) until it lags.
2) When it starts lagging, lower your resolution setting by one option and restart your game.

Sounds in the game have static or sound distorted!
Change your audio settings to have a bitrate of 44100Hz. This can be done by going into your Audio Manager and selecting the default format for your audio output device.
How do I go through the menus with keyboard?
Press Backspace on the title screen to set your keyboard controls.
Why doesn't my keyboard work?
Verify your game cache. This is also called Verifying your game files.
My controller doesn't work in-game!
Don't download x360ce. It can cause the game to crash more, especially online. Also, x360ce introduces input delay into your controller, which is never fun.

Instead, use Joy2Key or Xpadder and set up your controller to emulate keyboard buttons. Make sure the settings in Joy2Key/Xpadder match the keyboard settings for Storm 1.
"Cannot Initialize Steam"? WAT? I'm running Steam!
Restart Steam as an administrator. Not just as your administrator account, you actually have to complete the "Do you want Steam to access your computer?" box.

If that doesn't work, delete ClientRegistry.blob in your steam folder and restart steam. Your Steam folder is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
The game's asking me to create a save file?
Press the (A) button on your controller (Or L on keyboard)
(General) The game keeps crashing!
If anyone's asked you to apply a "No Shadow fix", this is why you're crashing. The solution is to entirely delete all copies of NSUNS1.exe you've made in your game files and Verify your game cache. Then, follow the steps shown on this guide to fix your lag without crashing.

If you haven't done anything like removing shadows or using an app called HxD, try the steps below.

If you're on Windows 10:
1) Press Windows Key+R
2) Type "services.msc" (Without the quotes)
3) Click OK
4) Find Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel
5) Right-click it and click Stop (If it's grayed out, just move onto the next step)
6) Right-click it again and click Properties
7) Change Automatic or Manual to "Disabled"

If that doesn't work, or if you're not on Windows 10:
1) Right click the game in your Steam Library
2) Click Properties
3) Go to Local Files tab and click Browse Local Files
4) Right click NSUNS1.exe and click Properties
5) Go to Compatibility tab
6) Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
7) Use Windows 8 first. If the game still crashes keep going lower, but don't select anything Vista and below.

If you've installed x360ce into the game, be sure to remove that as well. X360ce is known to crash the game. Instead, follow the steps on getting your controller to work in this guide.
(Nvidia) The game keeps crashing!
First, try following the general fixes above. If those don't work, try these:

1) Right-click your desktop and click "Nvidia Control Panel"
2) Select "Manage 3D Settings"
3) Select "Global Settings"
4) Choose "High Performance Graphics" and click apply.
5) Restart your PC
6) After restarting, check if your settings applied correctly in your Nvidia Control Panel. If they revert back, you may need to fix issues on your PC outside of Storm 1.

As a last resort, roll back your graphics drivers:
1) Right-click the start menu and click Device Manager
2) Expand Display Adapters
3) Find your graphics driver and right-click it.
4) Click properties and select the driver tab
5) Click roll back driver.

3) Click apply.

If that still doesn't work and you aren't using an ATI model:
1) Go to your graphics cards settings
2) Select Graphics->3D
3) Click Optimal Performance if available.

Finally, if the above STILL doesn't work for you:
1) Go to the Catalyst Control Center
2) Select the Graphics tab and click Browse
3) Go to "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/QWANT"
4) Set it to High Performance and click apply.

I keep getting a dx11 device creation fail error! (Error 0x80010010)
You need to be running a DX11-compatible GPU. Google your GPU to make sure it supports DirectX11.

If it does support DirectX11, please follow these steps.
If you have an Nvidia GPU:
1) Go to your NVIDIA control panel.
2) Go to manage 3D settings.
3) Put on the program settings tab and select NARUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM: Under select the preferred graphics processor for this program select High-performance NVIDIA processor.

(General) I'm getting a blank screen in the menus!
Before we try anything like messing with drivers, first try changing your INI file. Go to "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/QWANT" and open config.ini. Then changed "windowed=1" to "windows=0" or vice-versa if yours says the opposite.

What engine does this game run on?
It's a house-built engine since the game doesn't run on anything like Unreal Engine or Unity.

Ok but there no difference which you use MSAA or SMAA when you compare screensohts look same for me.
Better add that I connect my PC to 4k TV if i use gamepad and this game only using 70% GPU and 12% CPU and get 20 fps, So this look as some error with game which get out in 2017.
Hayatemaru  [author] 12 Jun @ 8:20pm
I'm not going to add "lower your graphics settings to make the game not lag on your bad PC"
As far as your 3060 chances are, if you're on a laptop, that it's defaulting to your integrated graphics, which is part of the guide.
Amen 11 Jun @ 11:43pm
flofer Turn off MSAA
Hayatemaru Add this hint to turn off MSAA this reason why i with 3060 12gb have 20-30fps
MSAA 4x 60fps and no other FXAA or SMAA or better use SMAA and Vsyng.
