So it was, in the time that belonged to chimpanzees, I, resolute, remained a monkey.

This epoch, defined by the chimpanzees’ own identity, cast me in an unusual role, for in the fullness of their time, I persisted as a monkey. I was not of the chimpanzees, despite the epoch’s focus; I was, without hesitation or ambiguity, a monkey. Indeed, the age of chimpanzees could not make me what I was not; I retained, fundamentally, the essence of a monkey amidst them.

It was within the span marked by chimpanzees’ prominence that I stood as something apart, a monkey. Not a chimpanzee in that time, nor a semblance of their kind, but a monkey—an entity of distinction in an era that was thoroughly theirs. And so, amid the chimpanzee’s reign, I was, unmistakably, a monkey.
