Barely recommended, largely for a) the strength of the open world gameplay (NO MORE RADIO TOWERS), b) anything involving Faith Seed, and c) the excellent score. Seriously: Dan Romer, Hammock, et al. really knocked the music out of the park with the soundtrack of the decade.

The story serves as a great example of how not to do video game narratives, with all critical narrative elements divorced from the main gameplay loop. Villains yank you out of Hope County once you've earned a certain number of resistance points, feature in a cutscene, then have you blast through some corridors until you're back in the open world. Your character's a blank slate, but all the Seed siblings treat you as if you have motivations and agency, agency which the game gives you at precisely two points - the story's beginning and end - and absolutely nowhere else. Finally, the writers ask you to suspect the Seeds' cult of perhaps being in the right, of having a point, of your own missions having improper moral justification - all great questions in principle, except that you constantly drive past the crucified, eviscerated corpses of the cult's victims. If Far Cry 5's writing team had wanted you to think of the Seeds as characters, they really, really shouldn't have written Joseph, John, and Jacob as caricatures. (However, Faith's pretty compelling - a sweet, seductive, drugged up, definitely unhinged waifu who promises you and her followers love if you'll just take the Bliss and lose your mind.)
