The game is very well made and it is fun.
BUT
I don't recommend it to people with addictive personalities. Everything is designed to keep you grinding forever.

October 2022 I was gifted this game by a friend with whom I spend hundreds of hours playing it. I really like this game and it was an important feature of my daily gaming routine. After the latest update I don't think that this will remain the case.

I get it. Change should come and improvement takes time. I can tolerate the bugs, I can tolerate the hideous UI but I can't really tolerate being unable to have access to the game I loved because of hardware requirements being imposed on me without any other option. Now I am left with a game that looks uglier than before the update because I have to run it on the lowest settings which make everything look terrible compared to my previous experience. Not to mention that the friend that bought me the game can't play it anymore because of the shadows problem.

In my opinion, beautiful aesthetics doesn't equal more realistic graphics. If you want to enjoy a beautiful mountainous world, you can go hiking. The constant push for increasingly advanced hardware honestly caters to the wishes of people who can afford the change. The rest of us are excluded.

In a nutshell: is this game good? Yes. Do I recommend it to my peers? Unfortunately, not anymore.

I've played a lot of Verdun, had my time in Tannenberg and I took part in the closed testing for Isonzo.

Isonzo is really different to its predecessors. Map scale is more ambitious, complexity has increased and the gameplay is much more multi-dimensional.

Kills don't really matter here . You can get a high score only by building/ destroying structures or spotting enemies. A couple of good engineers can change the course of a whole match by timely and consistently setting up defenses. Don't look down upon *peaceful* tasks, they are essential to victory.

Isonzo is not for campers . The game encourages constant moving, daring charges, map checking and role alternation. Switching classes contributes to its durability since each map can be played very differently as mountaineer, officer etc, which also helps digest the mechanics in depth. Shooting is also different. The weapons sway is more intense and you can almost feel the weight of the inconvenient rifles. Personally, I like the challenge. I can understand, nevertheless, that this kind of realism is not for everybody.

Bugs : the devs worked a lot in this. During the testing phase, they tried successfully to fix most bugs. In this light the release day was kinda disappointing. They were a lot of problems that initially put me off. However, the past days most issues seem to have been already taken care of. I hope that this will continue and we won't experience the neglect that Verdun suffered for too long.

I found it hard to replace Civ V with Civ VI. But now I recommend it.

The game is significantly different from its predecessor. At first, I refused to embrace the new features and I went on playing the previous one. However, after some initial insistence and frustration, I grew to like it.
Civ VI is a noticeably more complex game that allows for far more variety and unpredictability. It's guaranteed that this game will last a good 1.000 hours before it becomes boring.

One of those cases where it's really frustrating to get the hang of, but once you do, you don't regret it.
