Jmenuji se Walter Hartwell White. Bydlím na adrese 308 Negra Arroyo Lane, Albuquerque, Nové Mexiko, 87104. Toto je moje přiznání. Pokud se díváte na tuto kazetu, jsem pravděpodobně mrtvý, zavražděn mým švagrem Hankem Schraderem. Hank už přes rok buduje impérium pervitinu a používá mě jako svého chemika. Krátce po mých 50. narozeninách za mnou Hank přišel s poněkud šokujícím návrhem. Požádal mě, abych využil své znalosti chemie k vaření metamfetaminu, který by pak prodával pomocí svých kontaktů v drogovém světě. Spojení, která navázal během své kariéry s DEA. Byl jsem... ohromen, já... Vždycky jsem si myslel, že Hank je velmi morální člověk a byl jsem... rozhozený, zmatený, ale také jsem byl v té době obzvláště zranitelný, něco, co věděl a čeho využil. Zmítal jsem se s diagnózou rakoviny, která měla zruinovat moji rodinu.
