If I had to use one word to describe this game, it would be amazing. No, that's an understatement. You can't describe this game with only one word. I've been playing this game more or less for like 3 years now and even though that's not much, the game is almost unrecognizable in some aspects from when I started. It feels like it's still in beta and will porbably and hopefully stay this way until the end, if there is gonna be an end. Now, let's get to the specifics.
The story, while often questionable and convoluted, is one of the best I've ever seen in a game.
The characters all have unique personalities and the key characters often go through multiple arcs.
The setting is rather complicated as there are many, many settings in this game. You have Grineer camps and outposts that are very militaristic and as said in game "crude and dangerous", while also being very technologically advanced. The Corpus bases and ships look much more like what you would expect from classic sci-fi. They are even more technologically advanced than the Grineer and use all sorts of robotics. The Infestation is gruesome, disgusting, terrifying but also colorful and beautiful in its own, twisted way. They're basically zombies but not the classic huamn looking zombies, more like The Last Of Us' fungus zombies. They are also not only zombies, they are an entire ecosystem. The Orokin are "perfect and dull" as described by one of them. White, black and gold materials, mostly blue lights, they give the impression of an ideal place, a paradise, heaven. The Sentients are meant to look and seem unfathomable, beyond our understanding and that's exactly what they are. They look like they're made of bones and metals with shapes that are, to put it bluntly, bizzare. Lastly, us, the Tenno. Or equipment, warframes especially, look like a hybrid of flesh and metal, The organic and the artificial. It gives them a very one-of-a-kind aesthetic only really seen in this game.
The music is simply phenomenal. Each faction has easily recognizable themes that make them stand out from the others. Same goes for important story elements and characters. The developers sometimes like to re-use leitmotifs to convey a certain message, to make you say "I understood that reference" and give you either deja vu, nostalgia or PTSD.
The gameplay is rather unique. This is a looter shooter, but with stealth elements, and the power fantasy of being a one man army, also resource management. It's mostly a co-op game, it's fun to play with friends but you can always play solo if that's what you prefer. There is also a PvP mode, though it's not popular at all. It's hard to decide what kind of game this is, you have to play it to find out if it's right for you.
However, one piece of advice and a warning before you play. If you hate grinding and putting a lot of time and effort into getting stuff, this is NOT the game for you. It's among some of the most time consuming games in history. I have 500 hours on record and I'm still quite far from late game. Just keep that in mind.
That being said, Warframe is free! I recommend you download it, play it for a while and then decide whether or not you want to kee playing instead of relying on the opinions of others.
I've wasted enough of your time, give the game a try, you won't regret it. I hope to see you around, Tenno!
