A sigma male, also known as a lone wolf, is a man who exists outside of a social group’s traditional alpha-beta hierarchy. The alpha-beta hierarchy is a system in which people are ranked according to their social status, with alpha males at the top and beta males at the lower positions of power and authority. Alpha males are the group’s leaders and dominant figures, while beta males are the followers and support players. Sigma males operate autonomously and frequently on the outskirts of society. They don’t follow the traditional hierarchy and don’t require the approval or validation of others to feel fulfilled.
