“Mouthwashing” is without a doubt a surreal masterpiece. I didn’t expect it to go that deep, but wow. While the horror elements are great, the real strength of this game lies in the characters and their portrayal. They all feel very human, and you can understand them even with all their flaws. The portrayal of Jimmy reminds me of Silent Hill 2 and the depiction of James and his inner conflict: a man unable to come to terms with his actions and mistakes, who ultimately breaks down. It’s a sad story with some pretty profound themes, and I like the fact that we play as a deeply flawed individual, showing the impact of denial and ego on those around us poor Anya. We need more games where you’re not the good knight in shining armor, but rather a morally gray character like Curly or arguably a dark character like Jimmy. 10/10 an experience I won’t forget.
