Cheap and fun time-waster. Reminds me of an old board war game called Dawn Patrol. As long as you don't mind the cartoonish feel that this and many other Sid Meier games tend to have, you are likely to enjoy the tactical play. When I first downloaded, I had the crash bug people have reported, but that was easily fixed running it in compatibility mode.

Although repetitive at times, Shigatari is an enjoyable samurai game with an interesting art aesthetic and often brutal combat. The game can be difficult early on, but the more you play and the more you accumulate ancestor points, which you can apply to new characters, the more capable you are of overcoming the challenges of higher difficulty levels. Overall, a fun and cheap time-filler that allows you to be as honorable or as ruthless as you like.

I enjoyed playing this game, but it does have significant issues. Multi-day battles, in particular, are frustrating--losing hard-fought positions from one day to the next is annoying and took me out of any sense of continuity in many campaign battles. The flip side of those experiences, also a negative, is that I was able to learn how to "game" the game and ignore certain victory objectives while placing my units in the most advantageous positions to win battles decisively on another day. If you are looking for historical accuracy in a Civil War game, you may want to look elsewhere, but I still give this a lukewarm recommendation, especially if it is on sale.

Incredible and immersive game. Once you are past the initial learning curve, you will find an enjoyable and deep grand strategy game with RPG elements related to the various leaders of your dynasty through the centuries. The only caveat, as many have mentioned, is how expensive the game can become due to the developer's penchant for releasing DLC that sometimes is essential and improves the game and other times seems rather pointless and does little but empty your wallet. That said, CK2 is a definite buy if you find the game and the key DLC on sale.

This game may look old school, but it is FUN, provides genuine excitement, and requires some actual thought (or sometimes pure luck) in order to survive. The first time you cross the finish line, just ahead of an onrushing challenger, while running on a rickety wheel, with a wounded auriga at the reins, and missing one of your horses, you will understand the subtle delight this game can bring.
