If you aren't afraid of some micromanagement (which I haven't found tedious yet, though people with short attention spans might...), this is a deep strategy sim that is likely to become an even richer experience as the devs add further content to it.

Addictive, "one more turn" game. You don't have to be a cycling expert at all to enjoy it, but after playing this game, you will definitely understand the sport better (the game has motivated me to watch real-life cycling events, which I used to find "boring," primarily because I didn't know what was happening lol). There is no rng-inspired weirdness (and I do like that weirdness in other games) to blame for any mistakes you make--success depends on your ability to plan who competes in what race and at what fitness level and how you time your movements within the races themselves, and it is easy to miscalculate a breakaway attempt or your movements within a peloton, for just two examples. Whatever the result, the tactics and strategy are yours to bemoan or celebrate. Some might not like the fictional setting, but I think it adds a unique flavor. The "nations/continents" have real world analogues that aren't difficult to figure out, and as far as naming things goes, there is a modding tool the developer has included to change them to your heart's content. All in all, I highly recommend this to strategy and tactics gamers, sports sim management lovers, and anyone who likes to play games where they feel they are more in control than the random number generator might allow.

Incredible game. The only ACW game I have ever played that feels immersive and plausible. The battle AI is perhaps too predictable at times and easy to beat, but if you are looking for more "realism"/challenge, you can always give the opposing side full advantages on the campaign options screen, set the campaign to highest difficulty, and auto-resolve the battles (although this would remove part of the fun). I am hoping the developers will continue to improve the AI because this game has the potential to become the best wargame I have ever experienced by a wide, wide margin. If you have ever played UG:CW and enjoyed it, that game is a tinker toy house. This one is the Taj Mahal under construction.

This is the ultimate baseball simulator, period. You can do whatever you want. Play realistically. Play historically. Play with only your imagination as a possible limit. Everything can be customized. Even the Perfect Team component, which is clearly P2W, is enjoyable (caveat: I play Perfect Team for free, so I don't take it very seriously). If you love sports sims that are deep and not based on shiny but shallow graphics and arcade thrills, this game will not disappoint.

Early Access Review
This sandbox game scratches my old Fallout 1 and 2 itch. Elements of it can seem repetitive, the interfaces are not always intuitive, and some aspects of the game are still beta-sparse, but I keep coming back. Over time, as the clearly devoted and caring dev continues to work on the game, this could become the apex isometric space opera rpg many long for. The game has a slow pace, just as the character progression does, but that pace fits the setting. I will never come close to visiting even a fraction of the 10,000 sectors in the generated universe, but who cares? While tooling around in my interceptor, incinerating scavvers, launching mining drones, smuggling, bounty hunting, helping wipe out pockets of phage, and waiting to discover what the Jhemm have in store for me (just a small random list of things to do), I feel like I can ease back in my pilot's seat and soak in the starry ride. Warts and all, highly recommended. The game is only going to get bigger and better.

Have only played for 12 hours at the moment, but I feel the need to share in the praises others are singing for this game. Definitely has the look of a potential all-time classic. I am having a hard time thinking of something negative--I guess some might be put off by the paper book art style? Despite being early access, this game seems gamma-polished already and has been a bug-free experience thus far. If you like the tactics of fantasy table-top rpgs and actual storytelling that enriches and brings your customized characters to life, this gem will not disappoint. Highly recommended, even at full price.

I appreciate the kind of game the devs have tried to create here and hope they keep working on this game. It captures the Lovecraft vibe and atmosphere so well. Unfortunately, the game has too many bugs and design issues for me to recommend at this point in time. Combat is clunky and has crashed my game more than once. Inventory is also a bit of a mess and can crash the game frequently. Companions, who have stats and skills and backstories of their own, are rendered somewhat pointless except for combat. The save system is ridiculously bad. On my most recent run, after travelling to the Distillery and then being interrupted on the trip back to Arkham for a required encounter, the game continually crashed when I tried to proceed again with the trip to town. I reloaded close to twenty times with no luck, which means abandoning that character's run because I literally cannot continue. I will try to uninstall and reinstall to see if the crashes can be stopped, but I suspect the game will still suffer from these issues until patched and patched again. The game was released too soon, I suspect, and will need a lot of time and attention to make it genuinely playable. I hope the devs are up to the task because the game does hold tremendous promise.

Just over 50 hours in, and I feel I have just scratched the surface of this wonderful game. Although missions can become a bit repetitive, building up your company of mercs, cashing in on smart trading, and the awesome, brutal combat never get old. Like Darkest Dungeon, this game can be unforgiving when you make mistakes--and even when you don't--but such is the nature of battle and downtime logistics. This is a game that exemplifies that discretion is sometimes the better part of valor. If need be, don't be afraid to "Run away! Run away!" You can't become stronger and more capable of defeating powerful opposition if you're dead. If you aren't afraid of difficult games with learning curves and have been mulling over buying Battle Brothers, I highly recommend the purchase. If you can get it on sale, even better, for that would be an absolute steal.
