Although the Dark Souls concept has been around for a while, its generally new for a wider audience. Many people may find some of the difficulty and uniqueness jarring despite complaints on how games nowadays lack originality. That dissonance for the game is because it is different from a lot of templates that most other games build up on. To remedy this, take a step back and give yourself a break until you wanna try the game again. I find that it will give a fresher perspective to build a new framework for a new kind of game. Find some friends to play (suffer haha) with you. The difficulty is part of a carefully crafted experience that takes advantage of the brains suffering to reward ratio. Personally, I found the game riveting.
