Fantastic! Ever want to see the day in the life of a Civil Protection officer or Combine soldier? Here's your chance! It's not enough that you have the weapons and the gear of one, but that you actually have the interactions with other CPs and how you react to your surroundings. Plus being able to use a man hack yourself if pretty satisfying. Even the training mission is an eye opener on how the Combine view normal humans or Resistance members. Definitely check it out. Has a decent length and new areas to explore. Even if this is not canon, it's as close as we can come to it I am sure. Great work!

Not much to it other than a firefight, hence the name. There is no story, but the firefight is SWEET!!! You start off in an area and the enemies are pretty manageable. Then as time goes by, the enemies become for frequent, stronger and pretty soon unstoppable. But as you rack up the kills, you gain XP and you can buy better weapons, more ammo and super powers, even being able to slow down time itself. Every enemy in the Half Life series is here, new and old and then some of the beta ones that have to be seen to be believed! Truly a great game if you are purely wanting the satisfaction of killing the Combine! It's free! Try it today!

Playing in the Legacy version, I can say that this was unexpectedly great fun. I had never played the SR series before, and from what I had heard of it, it was good, but basically a knock off of GTA. And although it does share many comparisons- a huge open world, cars, gangs and guns, there is a lot here that parodies the SR, GTA and other games. This game plays exceptionally well for my old PC, with all the things that can be seen from very great distances and all the coding that had to go in to making a game like this. You think you found the base game, only to peel open the onion again and again to something new.

I bought the game on sale for probably $5 and it was one of the best $5 I ever spent. I assume it was the bundle with all the extra DLC content which is a huge assortment of extra costumes, vehicles and such. I completed one thing and had to keep tapping Enter because there was like a dozen packs I had unlocked from one mission. The amount of clothing, equipment and cosmetics in the game to make your character is insane. It took me over an hour easily on that alone because I wanted to create my character from scratch and just the way I wanted them to be. Or you could simply jump in game with a premade character. Then once in the game you have even more clothing options and guns, etc, both human and alien. It really is insane how much effort they put into just customizing your character and it all looks good. And the gun play is the standard fare, but the super powers really bring the game up a notch and make it truly different from the source material it was initially copying.

My biggest gripe is that it goes into the super powers way too fast, making the normal stuff like exploring the city on foot and driving the vehicles pointless. The only time you will be doing that, is if you either force yourself or due to a mission or challenge that requires it. Which there are a huge assortments of both. Anywhere from racing on foot collecting orbs to run even faster, to walking around in a mech blowing things up, or simply causing havoc in the streets with a particular weapon or power, the amount of fun things to do is almost enumerable. And each challenge there is a Bronze, Silver or Gold medal to win to proceed and be rewarded with more money and EXP. The only other gripe is the needless back and forth to the ship to talk to gang members that could have simply be done while out of the ship via coms like they usually do. It just takes extra time away I could be doing another mission, another challenge or trying to find those clusters scattered around the city that makes your super powers better.

After I get done with this game I will be trying the others in the series. Just a shame that the original SR is only on the Xbox 360 or XBOX Game Pass. It would be nice to have it on Steam as well. All in all this is a perfect game. Really rises above what was expected of it. The humour is great, the action non-stop and the things to do practically endless. I fully recommend it!

Edit: I'd also like to add, that the environment is chock full of things you'd find in a real city- homeless people sleeping on park benches, crackheads searching through trash bins, drunks urinating in public, people on pay phones, people having conversations, etc. Brings a depth of realism, to an otherwise unrealistic game. It's full of parodies and yet also life. It's a good game!

A lot of slow down with not much, if anything, going on. Graphics are not all that great to be doing that to my PC. The two graphic settings of Simple and Good does not seem to change much of anything. It is very linear in game play and forces you to play events in sequence, even though you know what is about to occur. To even do the very first interaction, you have to wait for the game to let you pass an invisible wall to walk five more feet to do what you need to do to progress with the story. Even though such and such is over there, you can not interact with it until you've started certain events. You can not even cross the road because there is an invisible wall and literally boxes you into to the gas station. And then the game glitched out on me multiple times and I had to restart. And even though there is a Restart button and a Quit button, neither can be pressed. I have to Alt Tab and then force the game to stop running and try again.

It's free, so I feel bad for not recommending it. But it needs some serious updates and work so it plays better and not be so linear or glitch out all the time. I do like the food and items stocked in the gas station, though. But the only thing scary about this game, is actually how much gas prices have changed since this was out.

20 years have passed since the original disaster at Black Mesa, but you have not aged. You are removed from stasis by the Gman and put into City 17, one of the last remaining city centers, where it is apparent that something is very very wrong. Civil Protection roam the streets heavy handedly rounding up citizens, detaining them for apparently no reason, being enforced by armoured personnel carriers and hunter choppers. Whole city blocks are subjugated and it's inhabitants removed by force. Buildings and sewers being searched by flying drones that can slice and dice you if you resist. The actual military arm of the Combine are ready at a moments notice and giant three legged steel monstrosities walk the streets, destroying anything in their path. Not to mention the headcrabs that can swallow a person's face whole and transform them into zombiefied creatures...

And that is just a normal day in the life of a Citizen. Tow the line and exist, maybe... Resist and cease to... or worse... Come fight the good fight and show these traitorous bastards, those who willingly gave up their humanity for a more comfortable life enslaving the rest of us and the higher echelon of the Universal Union, a dimensional expanding army that has already captured and enslaved countless worlds, what it means to mess with the Human indomitable spirit! The fun's just starting! What are you waiting for!? We NEED YOU!!!

Wait... I did not already review this!? I've played and beat it numerous times! One of the best games to date, even with newer games coming out, they can not match it's story telling and atmosphere and the physics are still pretty neat to use and play around with. Not to mention all the extra content from Valve, other devs and the community that keeps this game alive and well and wanting us to get a true sequel. Buy one game, have access to many free mods. Not to include the two extra official Episodes and even more modded content. Then of course you have GMod on the side and all the Source 2 Filmmaker videos on YouTube... the content is ENDLESS people for HL2 content! Cheap too, practically free on a sale for the base game! Get it!!!

Edit: Also I played this on both the original XBOX and on the physical game disks, so there are many more hours lost to the official Steam counter.

All things considered, this is more a Maybe, than a definite Yes or No. For some, this will be the best thing ever! For others, it's practically useless. Do you have friends that like to play (virtual) board games? If not, do you feel comfortable playing with complete strangers who can ruin a game in seconds? None of the games are built with any kind of guidance or CPU referring. Basically there are no illegal moves. You have to trust the person you are playing or learning from, that they know what they are doing or not trying to cheat you. You can literally take any pieces and move it any where. Throw money across the table. Flick opponent's dice. And even flip over the table. Granted certain server side options can stop a table flip, but you are still at the mercy of those playing not to literally take the game and ruin it.


I personally do not want to learn the game with online strangers for the things already mentioned. It takes commitment to play these games. Some can be simple, but many are knee deep in rules and pieces. It would take a good many hours in the day to feel comfortable in playing a game and with no true guidance, you can only hope to know the basics and your opponent or ally not pull their hair out or you to them with frustration.


I tried to keep it for the crafting aspect. But I am finding out that it is more complicated than it should be. I am no engineer or coder, but if I click on a piece and want to move it, I shouldn't have to struggle with the controls to sometimes latch onto it and other times not or to fight the camera controls. To me this just isn't worth it, but my two hours are won and done so no refunds.


On the bright side, you not only get to play free player created content, but try actual board games (officially or unofficially supported) before buying them. A lot of people simply wont buy a large board game, because they are intimidated by the price, size and scope of the game. And afraid they will waste money and not enjoy the game. But if they like it here, they will for sure enjoy the physical copy. Even with VR supported for Tabletop Simulator, nothing can beat the actual feel and placement of real pieces. Some games can almost be Zen like.


Anyway, I hope this review was helpful. As I said for some of you, this could be the perfect game or the perfect gift for someone else. They typically go on sale for half off and have bundles where you can buy four games at a reduced price, if you want to give them out as gifts. Just be sure who ever you are buying for, that they are going to be able to appreciate the game first.

I knew this was a drifting game and I am not much of a drifter, but all you do is drift. The moment you even slightly turn the wheel the game acts like it is time to drift. I have never seen it this bad. It would be different if the cars acted normal and if you did not adapt to drifting then you lose. But you are forced to drift from the moment the race starts basically. This is more of a Maybe than a Yes or No recommendation, but I will keep it on No. If you love drifting this game might be for you. For everyone else, not so much.

By the video and some of the pictures it looks entertaining. But I was not entertained. I got to level 20 and did not see anything fun or worth while. You can not run or jump. You walk at a snails pace and are surrounded by what looks to be a child's paint shop doodling. And the person speaking never shuts up about how great it is to drink soda. I am not even sure the point of collecting the sodas, nothing seems to happen when you do. Maybe it's gets better, but it should of had it's best foot forward out of the gate. I can not recommend this game in the slightest. Not even on sale. It shows they are selling it at full price for $5 and on sale at about $1.50. Even if the full price was $1.50 and on sale it was only 20 cents, I still could not recommend it.

I can not play much of it, so I have no idea how good it is. What I can say is that there is no way to adjust options for graphics, so it is always lagging for me. Until I can actually play the game, I will have to not recommend it.

A game I have been wanting to play for decades, ever since I had saw an advertised in a PC magazine! By today's standards the content might be a little rough. Definitely some sexism and racism thrown into the mix, but in a fantasy setting, so no love for Half-Orcs or Half-Ogres and some races hate Elves or Dwarves, etc. And men are always going to be stronger and can carry more because of it and deal more melee damage from brute force. But women can suffer more pain and have better health and have a better resistance to poisoning for instance.

I will say that I have heard negative things due to it being an older game and trying to run it on modern systems. I am not sure if something was patched in recently, but I can actually play this game on Windows 10. Normally the game is $6 and quite frankly that is a bargain. But on sale at only $1.50, it's too precious a deal to ignore. I normally would not suggest testing the wheels of fate with purchasing just to see if the game works, but if you do not ask for refunds often, I do suggest it for this. And chances are "out of the box" it may work as it did for me. I did have graphical issues, but they went away on a restart and have not been back since. And if you do not mind a little tinkering to get it to work, there are 3rd party patches and support for it.

Not a politically correct game as it were.. But you would be doing yourself a disservice if you did not play it. The fantasy aspect of it, with it's mix of Magic and Technology makes a very unique steampunk atmosphere. Plenty of decisions to be made when creating a character, including options that could severely hinder or assist you. Plenty of avatars and prebuilt characters as well. Dialogue trees that effect your play through and so much more. I do wholeheartedly recommend the game. And who can pass up on a game with a title like that!?
