It's a fun game. I would only recommend you get it if you have others to play with, and its on sale.
Game is completely dead so no more incoming content but you definitely get your moneys worth.

Plays like ♥♥♥♥, doesn't run on AMD cards as of 2024 but still a good game.

I think its massively overrated but it is w/o a doubt an incredible game, make sure to play the dlcs best parts imo.

This game just... isn't good.

OW2 has consistently had an issue of role balance, there will always be one role that feels oppressive to the point where the other two just aren't fun to play. The hero balance is just all over the place, and the hitbox changes single handedly lowered the skill gap to the extent that you barely even need to try to actually land shots on most characters.

Wish Blizzard was capable of making a good game anymore, venture is cool though.

Super glad this game is back after so long, sad that there wont be any new content past the two new heroes and maps but whatever; at least we get to play it again!

Changing this to positive for now at least,

The most recent patch did all I wanted from this game and that was make the roster/tools feel good again.

A beautiful story about entropy, accepting fate, and so much more.

The game is essentially a visual novel with basic deck-building mechanics with a focus on divination, you get to create your own cards using pre-existing arcana; you can get really creative and make some cool looking cards, though I wish some of the card editor aspects felt a bit better to use like being stuck with some pieces that you can't delete. Other than that its an incredibly cool system and adds a bit of uniqueness to any given playthrough. The artstyle is probably one of my favourite parts of the game, its really unique and compliments a lot of the character designs.

Early Access -arvostelu
It's an alright game, I wouldn't say its an amazing game but it definitely has some potential to be a more arcadey/casual extraction shooter experience to contrast Hunt: Showdown and Tarkov.

With that being said though, I have a hard time even calling it an extraction shooter because it feels more like a battle royale in some aspects. It's a very weird mish-mash as the main goal is the same as any other extraction shooter but the game play is a lot more kin to battle royales with load outs not transferring between games forcing you to start every game with nothing and rarities between guns. It's not necessarily a bad thing, having your abilities be what you bring into a game rather than a loadout is definitely a unique twist on extraction shooters but if you're coming into the game expecting a tarkov/hunt experience then you're just going to be disappointed.

Gunplay feels... alright. It's not as bad as everyone says but it could definitely do with some touching up in the fluidity and satisfaction department. Not a whole lot of them feel super satisfying to shoot, especially the snipers but there are definitely games with worse feeling gunplay. The abilities are cool enough, there aren't a whole lot right now and they do seem to be kind of slow to unlock but I'll assume that will be fixed over time. I do like the general game play loop of the glyph s, I think it just leads to a more engaging experience and I hope in the future that more complicated challenges are tied to them and cooler buffs for getting them.

My biggest issues with the game lie with its matchmaking, its just very poor right now. Not even in the sense that "Oh I get put into lobbies with people who actually play the game" but more so the fact that it'll seemingly just put you in a game in a completely different server which leads to some frustrating ping diffs. I am aware that a part of that issue is definitely player counts not being sustainable enough right now but its worth mentioning. I also wish that traversal was a bit faster, the map is quite big and without the surf-board glyph it can feel like a slog trying to get from point A to point B.

The most important thing to understand is that this game is in EA so giving actual critical feedback is incredibly important, from what I've seen the dev's do seem to look at the reviews quite a bit so conveying what you want to see/what bothers you in a healthy manner is crucial.

I never played the Original Risk of Rain but I still heavily enjoy returns.
I don't prefer it over 2 but there is a lot that returns did right such as providence trials being an alternative to unlocking skills and items over annoying challenges.

Survivors of the Void is a borderline perfect DLC in my eyes.

It adds two new survivors, one you get immediately and one you get from either playing the new mode OR completing the new ending. Both Survivors are incredibly fun, albeit a bit overpowered. Railgunner is very reminiscent of RoR1's Sniper (So much so that her monsoon skin is literally sniper lmao), being a high burst damage survivor that prioritizes taking down big hp bars over anything else. She does have some skill to her, being one of the few survivors that actually requires a bit of aim (although not a whole lot) due to most of her damage coming from hitting crit-spots and perfect reloads which can be incredibly difficult depending on circumstance, but once you get that down she is w/o a doubt one of the best survivors in the game due to her insane damage potential. She does have alternate abilities aswell, unlike the other survivor added, which do tone down her damage for a bit of utility; most people would write it off but they are fun skills that have their times and places. The other Survivor, Void Fiend, is probably some of the most fun I've had with the game. Void Fiend is all about managing your uncorrupted and corrupted form to properly manage your survivability and damage. His corrupted form has insane damage and is definitely worth trying to unlock if you want a nice power fantasy.

It adds 41 NEW ITEMS, including an entirely new item rarity being Void. I'm not gonna talk about the non-void items but they are welcome additions nonetheless.
Void Items are some of the cooler items in the game adding a corruption mechanic to your inventory. Void Items are essentially amped up versions of pre-existing items (Sometimes worse like the bands, sometimes better like Safer Spaces), with the main catch being that it corrupts all your current AND future copies of an item. It's super cool as sometimes you don't want to pick up void items as it might gimp your build while other times they might save it, seeing a void seed or the little void capsules in any stage is still something I get excited about.

It also adds a completely new ending to the game, with new bosses, stages and normal enemies. Some of the enemies are... incredibly obnoxious and borderline run-ending but they are welcome additions nonetheless due to adding more variety to old and new stages.

For $15 I have a hard time NOT recommending it, you just get so much great stuff adding onto an already great game.

Risk of Rain 2 is one of the most fun rogue-likes I have ever played.
I never played the original Risk of Rain so I can't comment on if its a better game or not but there is so much that Risk of Rain 2 did right that I have no issues saying that its better than most of its competitors in the genre. While co-op rogue-likes have been growing in numbers and popularity over the last few years, there isn't a whole lot that I would consider good outside of Gunfire Reborn meaning that Risk of Rain fits that niche of being a good rogue-like experience with friends while not compromising its solo-game-play.

The strongest thing about Risk of Rain 2, in my opinion, is its customizability. With a cast of 12 survivors (14 w/ Survivors of the void and ?? for the incoming DLC), 148 Items, and 16 Artifacts; the amount of replay-ability and min-maxing for how you want to play is incredible, not to even mention that each survivor (barring void fiend for some reason) has alternate skills you can unlock to further push that customizability, making your own loadout combinations to make a character fit better with you. The game can feel very meh at the start due to you having very little choices between items and survivors but as you play more & unlock everything through challenges the game starts to show its true colours. While there are plenty of challenges that you have to go out of your way for, the biggest ones are probably the artifacts as you need specific codes for each but they are so worth it as they can either add an extra layer of challenge like making you a complete glass cannon & every spawn is an elite, benefit you like being able to choose what items you want instead of relying on complete rng, or some that just change the way the game plays like items dropping from monsters rather than chests. They don't disable challenges/achievements either so experiment with what makes your runs the most fun!

Risk of Rain 2 is also, a decently difficult game. I'm not gonna glaze the game and say it has a super high skill cap but the game can definitely be on the more difficult side of the spectrum. late-game Risk of Rain 2 can be very hectic, requiring a good understanding of items to scale properly and not die, good understanding of how to utilize built in and item mobility, and (if you don't play with artifact of command/playing eclipse) be able to properly manage item RNG to succeed no matter what the game gives you.

This game is also incredible from an artistic point of view. It has a very unique design that really utilizes the more low-poly style incredibly well while still having pretty nice looking visuals and models. I can't talk about Risk of Rain without talking about its soundtrack because my lord it is w/o a doubt one of the best video game OST's i've ever listened to, if you for some reason play without sound you are doing yourself a disservice.

I can't really add much to this, if you like rogue-likes then you most definitely will like Risk of Rain 2. Even if you don't, I'd still recommend trying it out.
