Amazing game they managed to mesh a lot of the positives from previous fromsoftware games and left out most of the negatives. I want to get my biggest problem with the game out of the way right now the stuttering and frame drop issues. The game is amazing but the pc port is horribly optimized and from personal expernce and reading other reviews it doesn't matter how good your pc is the game will have performance issues. Its also worth noting like every other fromsoftware game you are caped at 60fps by the game engine its self though i have little doubt there will be at least a few mods that will change that. But getting back to the performance issues i have 3070 and a 5600x (abet running at 1440p) and i physically could not fight the first boss you encounter in the open world(the tree sentinel) until i was far over leveled and even struggled then due to horrible frame drop every time he went to attack. It took me more trys to kill him then the first major boss of the game and this is after i had already beaten that boss. However this is something that can most certainly be fixed with time and honestly even though the performance issues have been one of my biggest sources of frustration they haven't prevented me from enjoying the game. Combat feels extremely similar to prevoous souls games particuarly Darksouls 3 with a bit more refinement. They have buffed the magic and ranged classes to be a lot more viable then previously allowing for more flexibility on deciding how you want to play the game tho admittedly a lot of the magic feels almost like cheating. The map is huge and offers countless areas to explore and various side quest and bosses to undertake however as one might expect as a previous souls/borne player the game offers little in the way of direct guidance which is simultaneously amazing and a huge problem. Even for the most experienced of souls players the game has a bit of a learning curve. Like previous games you have to go in expecting to die or you will be frustrated to no end which can pose huge problem for new players who don't know what there getting into. However even for experienced players you have to approach it with a different mindset then most previous souls games. Unlike every previous games Elden Ring is anything but linear and is fundamentally rpg and you have to approach it as such. This is a both an amazing breath of fresh air and a major problem for new and experienced player alike. This is made extremely clear right of the bat with the first major boss of the game Marget the Fell Omen. As one might expect the immediately game guilds you abet in a rather souls like indirect fashion to Marget the Fell Omen pretty much as soon as you get to through the "tutorial". However particularly for new players and those entrenched in their previous darksouls ways of ruining immediately from one boss to the next this posses a huge problem. Marget is an excellently designed boss and is rather rewarding to kill once one has gained mastery of his movement patterns and combos but posses to great a challenge right of the bat if one is unprepared. Now the simple solution is to give it a few trys realize you aren't quite ready and to go explore the vast world a bit more level up and get some better gear then comeback later. The problem is for many old players this is a rather foreign concept as apposed to rushing boss after boss after boss and for new players who lack experience with the franchise its just as easy to become laser focused on that first boss as it is for the boss rushing maniacs of old as what little guidance the game gives points you directly to Marget. Now this defiantly a problem but its not by any means a deal breaker especially if you know ahead of time and go into the game prepared with the right mindset. the best piece of advice i can offer is to take the game at your own pace feel free to explore the vast world and don't feel like you have to rush to any boss(unless of course you want too) and last but certainly not least expect to die........... a lot.
