One of the best games i've ever played really.

It doesn't need to be complex, deep or have the mechanics of X4 Foundation to be a good game, it just is what it aims to be, and succeeds. It doesn't need combat to be fun, no explosions to be interesting, it just offers us with beautiful music, art and puzzles, sprinkled with really nice lore and an emotionally engaging story filled with unique characters and vistas.

Pick it up, it's worth it, it's not like Assassins's Creed where you need to quit your job to finish the game, it lasts a max of 20 hours for 100% completion, and gives you a tight, coherent and fun experience during it's run time.


Beware of these two issues regardless of my positive review


The performance is not great, on a 3070 and 5800x on SSD i need to lock the game at 60fps to maintain a stable image, and even then, certain areas of the game like Eccria stutter a lot and make the game a tad bit sluggish to play.

The camera is pulled straight out of gamecube era levels of jank. It functions well and is serviceable 85% of the time, but the other 15 it makes me want to dig my head into the ground because it jerks all over the place and flips in weird ways. If this studio makes a sequel, which i hope it does, or works on another game, of this style or not, they need to put extra care on the camera because it could draw some people away.

For the sake of fairness, i'm going to leave my original MW2 review below this one, but because i can't even play that game anymore, i'm sadly changing what was once a thumbs up, to a thumbs down.


As the title implies, i cannot even play the game i paid 100+ CAD$ when booting up the application titled for me to launch. If i do, i am greeted into their new MW3 hub, bombarded with ads for purchasing the game and extra gun packs (Already??!! the game came out yesterday and there's already 30$ cosmetic packs???!!!).

If i do want to play MW2, i have to navigate a confusing and unintuitive menu of hoarded and unresponsive icon boxes to actually reach my owned game's menu. The catch is though, that in order to play the game i even booted up "Call of Duty" to play, the one i spent 100$ on a year ago, i need to restart the game via their in game menu, wasting more time after letting the game cache all its textures and etc, to then be greeted by finally the original MW2 menu! But then it needs to cache it's own textures for another 30 minutes!!

Ok so why am i complaining, i figured it out right? I've reached my intended game, the textures are cached, i can just play now. Right? Well you're wrong, if i want to play the campaign, i need to restart the game AGAIN, and proceed with the same steps. More of the game is played by waiting in convoluted menu for textures to cache, than actually playing.

If i want to matchmake into a proper MW2 lobby? Crash to desktop and restart the entire process again. Repeatedly.

Now for an even bigger kicker, let's say MW3 updates, well then i have to download huge 30GB updates, for a game i do not own, for modes like Warzone that i do not play, only to have a game i cannot play, simply installed on my computer. And they have the audacity to ask 30$ cosmetic packs?

Sincerely, with all due respect, which is none, go ♥♥♥♥ yourself Activision, go ♥♥♥♥ yourself Sledgehammer for that awful campaign that ended an upcoming legendary trilogy on the worst sour note since Anthem, and ♥♥♥♥ you Infinity Ward for deciding i am not allowed to play what i paid 100$ for.

Good game but i will start this overall good review with the negatives for people looking for information on the game.

The cons :
-Very buggy, often glitches and makes menu utilisation annoying at times

-Game crashes on any computer, i had no crash history and thought i was ok until the campaign mode started simply not launching and crashing to desktop about at the time i reached the final level

-Is going to be like the last call of duty games in the last 4 years and will throw gun packs in the store for lots of money despite having paid nearly 100$ for the base edition (In Canada this game is 89.99, which with tax adds up to nearly 100+$ for just the base edition)

-Has a limited time battlepass system like every other popular game out there, and its pretty grindy, so have fun paying 30-40$ every few months to half finish a battlepass and have it expire before you can reach the end


With that said, however this game can have frustrating features, it remains a solid entry not as a Call of Duty game but as a game in general. Check this out :

The pros :

-Great campaign with a good story carried by amazing actors and fantastic set-pieces and unique levels and encounters (the Veteran difficulty can sincerely go drown itself, the Bots are god tier and i have no idea how i had the drive to finish the game on that difficulty on the first run)

-My favourite iteration of CoD style multiplayer in a long time. Slowed down but still arcade-y and following the classic formula. I can actually play the game and have a chance at fighting someone with any load-out

-Expanded Gunsmith from 2019, offering tons of wacky but functional customisation

-Not only the return of Warzone, but also expanded, improved, refined and overall better, with more things to do, more opportunities than before, and new ways to be rewarded other than the slight chance of winning against 100 players

-A brand new Tarkov-like extraction shooter mode called DMZ that is a great time, offers a unique twist on the formula and simply works well with the MW2 style of gameplay. Progression in this mode is fresh, interesting and rewarding

-An actually functioning and refined COOP mode! This time unlike MW2019, the COOP mode is actually a properly designed game mode with interesting levels, functioning multiplayer, properly scripted AI and also rewarding.

Overall, this game is succesful on many fronts, offering a great variety of content styles, and styles within each piece of content! It's a diamond in the rough with which i have hopes it will be polished, improved and brought up to better standards. But like someone told me once, a good game that's buggy can be fixed, but a bad game that's not buggy cannot just be fixed. This game is good, it just needs some time which is refreshing from the current market of AAA releases simply being bad AND buggy...

I give this game a solid 7-8/10

I had no need to buy this game, i played it through family share, and yet i bought it, without a sale, i didn't care, maybe i'll regret paying 12$ for this later, but right now i don't care.

I bought the game, and i'm giving a review not to say it is good or the opposite, but because i have a single question for Davey, if this game, if it's story is real, if Coda is real

it sounds stupid, out of reach, blind even, maybe naive but i just hope you know i thank the both of you for this. And i thank you my friend for telling me to play this, i don't think you understand how much this game means to me now, you can laugh or cringe at me later lmao, but thank you

So i'm actually quite happy to have been proven wrong. After my negative review and my pessimistic perspective of the game's future starting with their new micro-transaction methods, since Tencent is behind some of the worst decisions in live service games in the industry, i saw Techland drop 2 substantial updates to the game, completely fixing inherent progression and gameplay issues that made the game better. With the latest update **Firearms update**, they brought not only entirely new weapons, or rather returning weapon types from the first game, but also massive improvements to existing mechanics, revised environments for the open world, and new story quests to accommodate the changes.

On top of this, to come back to monetization, despite the lackluster events depending how you see them, they have dropped more free cosmetics and weapon packs to obtain via said events, than they have introduced paid cosmetics within the same time frame. And to top it? the prices aren't even that high for the existing ones when compared to the abysmal and insulting monetization in games like Call of Duty, Halo Infinite and Diablo 4.

So overall, Techland has regained my faith by straight up brute forcing good content and regular updates completely for free while keeping prices for their non intrusive in-game store low.

Techland was on a path of greatness, constantly improving their game, adding new things to it, giving more tools and options to players, fixing their mistakes. Then Tencent buys them, and they feel safe of pulling the dumbest move concerning micro-transactions in a single-player game I've seen since Ubisoft became the sewer of the game industry.

You wanna pull stuff like this in the middle of an era where gamers are tired of exactly this kind of corporate move? This is what you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ get.


A decent overall sequel

-less overall scary but still really scary at times

-decent story imo, some of the characters are REALLY well acted, some are garbage, and a few have really good story arcs

-gameplay is solid, needs some polish though due to bugs

-parkour is amazing

-map is detailed and filled with stuff and opportunities for gameplay

-less dynamic events like dying light 1 and more scripted checklist (but still fun) markers ubisoft style

-not a fan of the new loot system, i prefer picking up weapons from the ground and off enemies like in DL1, but the customisation for them is really good

- FIRE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ soundtrack!!

-Is a good time

A masterpiece with but a few flaws, nothing can be perfect, but this game is really good.

The flaws :
-By the end of the game there's some enemies that repeat a bit too often, so a form of lack of variety in enemies, but to be fair Elden Ring is the first truly open world FromSoft game and the fact enemy variety only becomes a problem by the end of the game is a testament to how close they were at creating something near flawless

- Occasional performance hiccups (R7 5600x with 3070) sometimes the game hitches to mid 40's, nothing bigger and its usually not during any important moment

- The occasional jank control can sometimes mess up something but its a really minor complaint of something that happens very rarely anyways

With that said, if these arent much of a problem to you, and you did your research on what this game and overall Fromsoft games are, or are already familiar with Fromsoft games, you'll have a very good time.

Why?

Odyssey is a game that is beautiful, full of charm and captures very well what greece in that time period should feel like. But it fails to deliver any specific atmosphere.

The game, to say the least, is massive, filled to the brim with... nothing...

The story is interesting, for the 5 minutes of actual story you get in between 10 hours of sidequests with lackluster everything . (Cutscenes have stock and very rough animations, voice acting is inconsistently bad or decent, stories are ok at best but never that interesting), I would love to play more of it, if getting anywhere or doing anything didnt require an abysmal chore-like grind.

I refuse to call this game an Assassin's Creed game, because despite popular comments that the AC storyarchs were bad to begin with and needed to be rid of, the mystery and feeling of grand "beyond this world" lore the old games had were quite nice, and this game completely ignores everything AC.

But i have to say that by doing so, it also excels at being a mind-numbingly fun Greek Mythology RPG. And through that aspect, i feel forced to give this game a good review despite probably never being able to finish it as my mind goes towards much more "true to themselves" and focused games that reward my time much more.

Buy this game, it's worth it, just ignore that it has the Assassin's Creed name on it, it has nothing to do with it, but damn is really nice to just sink in a couple of brain dead hours into it.

it really is as good as the other reviews probably say. Poignant story, beautiful characters acted wonderfully, great story and meaningful choices that actually do change the events in the game. Fun gunplay that really does get better than what seems like a barebones experience early on in the game. It's just such a good ride from start to finish.

I would say buy on sale but if you know what youre getting into then theres no shame buying it full price either. For once in a damn long while, a game worth the money it asks. Im just also very happy a good friend of mine was really nice enough to get this for me and i cannot thank him enough for it.
