Average run of the mill looter shooter that will waste your time, not reward you and makes building a character meaningless because the world is uninteresting, unoriginal, and any semblance of interest you could have is shattered by how linear, boring and poorly designed every level is. No room for creativity in terms of gameplay, and therefore no room for creativity in terms of build.

Nothing about this game is remotely interesting other than the armor and gun designs, and don't get fooled, they're not even satisfying to shoot. Save yourself time, somehow a game from ubisoft is better than this, The Division 2 is now on steam, just go play that, it's still somewhat supported and it actually accomplishes everything this game can't.

I can't help but laugh at how this game was marketed as an aggressive fast paced shooter where taking cover was discouraged, but then in gameplay, moving is literally only moving on the X/Y axes with no other options, and with the worst attack telegraphing in gaming history making you a running a duck if you don't take cover, or if you do lol.

Don't buy this game, this is just the tip of the iceberg this game and it's devs have done wrong with this IP. I hope they don't dabble in this genre or this IP again.

Laser focused, confident, aggressive and passionate.

These are the words i always think of when i remember this game.

When you look at an artbook for a game and notice that every piece in it managed to find it's way into the final product, you know the team behind it had full creative control and did exactly what they set out to do without wasting time or ressources.

Tight, responsive, optimized, gorgeous, satisfying, rewarding.

These are tenets of this game's moment to moment gameplay. Accompanied by a varied, and interactive soundtrack that dynamically adjusts to your actions, every single second of this game feels like a love letter to fans and artists who love and worked on this game.

To this day, the support and care that was given to this game throughout its development and post launch support can be seen and felt with the quality that oozes with every pixel.

The composer for this game's phenomenal soundtrack, Mick Gordon has been mistreated and left unpaid, has been sullied and publicly attacked and defiled by the aforementioned two men and the conflict remains at a stalemate. As much as i am a fan of Doom and the passionate team behind the games, and the wonderful works of the composers who worked on the DLC's, i will not be buying future ID titles until the matter is resolved .

I yeeted a nuke at someone to make them stop bothering me, it worked, then i built a cool civilization on that planet, went to colonize the moon, some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thought it'd be funny to poke at my stuff so i yeeted the moon at them. It worked, so i went to another planet and built a robotic godzilla and stomped on them ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, i then built a deathstar out of it and yeeted a lazer at some other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

10/10 would reccomend

Review as of update 2.1
The old review, written around 2021 slightly after patch 1.5 or so i think, will be left under the updated review for reference.

As of update 2.1, and not having the expansion Phantom Liberty which released with the equally game changing update 2.0, i have to give this game a thumbs up, although i enjoyed this game before and gave it a good review, i still couldn't recommend it to people back then because of the amount of missing features to entice people into staying the course with the game despite it's phenomenal story and atmosphere.

Now that patch 2.1 has released, i can firmly say that the game is in the state i actually wanted to see it in at release. Before this update, even during patch 2.0 to 2.02 i still used over 160+ mods to compensate for missing quality of life features and extra content i wished the game would have.

I am now down to only 6 that i really miss using while currently playing Vanilla on the day of release of patch 2.1. Most of my little qualms with the game are mostly gone, the skill trees are fun and unique, the weapons are interesting and useful throughout the whole game, and there's an actual reward at the end of the important quest-lines other than a gun or a piece of clothing; being able to hang out with your friends and romance interests!

Pair this with not just vehicle combat, but enhanced vehicle combat, new vehicles, revamped quests, performance patches and visual enhancements without stability issues, and more, i can actually tell people, play this game, going through the story won't feel like a chore and a confusing mess. You will genuinely have fun in the world, and the game is good with it's open world and not in spite of it.

Thank you CDPR for sticking with bumpy ride, i was always with you from day one, but i was always critical of what you put out. Today you made me really happy, i'm enjoying the game again like if it just came out, despite never really stopping playing it since release. Good job guys, i can't wait to see what you do next.


Old review, around patch 1.5-1.6


Good story, decent worldbuilding, beautiful aesthetic and art direction.

Gunplay is average but elevated by decently unique guns and skillsets, average movement mechanics if not underwhelming for how vertical the map can get

lackluster RPG mechanics, not many story changing decisions other than adding options for the ending thanks to select questlines with rather unique and quite interesting characters. The game is more of a branching linear story rather than an RPG with intertwining game changing decisions.

Still needs bug fixes, and a ton of content to be added to make up for the lack of depth the world itself has (missed opportunities like gangs, fixers, corporations/companies, MaxTac and Trauma Team)

The sidequests resemble more ubisoft-like checkmark lists, but they're rather open in their approach and tie in to the story and world quite well, so at least there's that, the level design for them is usually also fantastic minus the rather buggy combat AI which can make those missions inconsistent.

What makes this game truly shine though are the characters it throws at you... Only Red Dead Redemption 2 has managed to capture the heartwrenching feeling of actually being attached to character's who's faith and life matter to you that much. They are lovable beyond belief, they are played and acted in impressive performance and the animations this game has is fantastic, and allows for some of the most beautiful moments with some of them.

I cannot stress how much the story in itself is worth the experience of this game. Just to meet these characters and see their world through their eyes. It's beautiful, it's genuine, it's emotional and it's compelling.
