Amazing, graphics, intriguing plot, just a lot of wasted potential to be one of my favorite games of all time.

Significance of Rust
A rising video game, Rust, proves to be one of the best depictions of human interaction in the gaming community. While Rust hadn’t originally captivated such a large audience as it does today, popularity takes time. A game with such unique and essential qualities was bound to eventually go viral. Rust is unique in that it creates its own environment of human interaction separate from the modern world.
In a relatively lawless game, people are left to compete with others for valuable resources. Since progression lasts even after leaving the game, an element of realism is added to the game. The work you put into gaining loot and taking from other players you get to keep. What may only be mere pixels on a computer screen can represent hours worth of farming resources. In the same way, one's possessions in real life are gained through work, possessions that can last a lifetime. Unless they are stolen, of course. The competitive nature of rust involves taking from others as well. Higher skilled players and people that work harder are able to raid others’ bases.
While this fierce competition may drive players away from some parts of the game, it lets others who are more passive and donate shine. Being kind in the game can be the difference between life or death. Sometimes just asking someone to pick you up might encourage them to do so. However, if you decide to call them trash as the game, they will finish you with no hesitation. In addition, a player’s reputation on the server can impact whether or not their base will last until the next day. Toxic players are often targeted on servers. Messing with the wrong large group often leads to annihilation. Therefore, being benevolent in the community frequently leads to reward. Real life is no different. Society values the charitable, and looks down upon the evil. While being rude in real life may not lead to death, it still has negative consequences. People in real life lose relationships and damage reputations by being rude to others.
Rust also allows different types of players to go after different goals. While someone may want to build a beautiful base, another player may want to chase after other players on a horse. Since the game has an endless amount of features, getting added more and more each month, players have the opportunity to pursue whatever objective they wish. Many other games lack this amount of freedom, forcing players to follow a certain playstyle or route. For example, in any game campaign you have to complete objectives in order to beat the game. However in Rust, there is no winning or losing, the choice is left to the player to choose how they want to play. Similarly, people pursue different goals in real life for enjoyment. Some people wish to become English teachers, and others wish to become professional musicians. Therefore, in both rust and real life, people are able to choose the way they want to live.
The only possible criticism of rust is that it takes too much time. For a player to become what the community considers competent at the game, the player needs to have at least 200 hours. It takes a while for people to learn all of the features of the game. In part, this is because of how much content the game has to offer to players. However, for a game to be time consuming and popular, that means people are willing to put time in to play it. So, in that way it isn’t a criticism at all. A great game can not be responsible for people wanting to play it for long periods of time. All that really means is that people will likely get their money’s worth out of the purchase of the game.
Overall, Rust portrays human relations in a realistic way that no video game can compete with. It is one of the greatest social experiments ever made. Essentially, Rust is a virtual Lord of the Flies. You start off on the beach with a rock and your main objective is to survive. The game manages to be absolutely brutal while also having the most rewarding of experiences.
