To be fair you have to have a very high IQ to drive the Ford Escort. The oversteer is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the car's reactions will go over a typical driver's head. There's also the Escort's Cosworth BDA engine which is deftly woven into its engine bay - its power and torque characteristics draw heavily from the Ford GT40, for instance. The drivers understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depth of this machine, to realize it's not just metal - but that Escort is LIFE. As a consequence people who can't drive the Escort truly ARE idiots - of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the emotion in the Escort's powerful rumble "vroom Vroom VRE" which itself is a cryptic reference to the Daimler-Mercedes D VI W-18 Aircraft engine. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Ford and Cosworths genius unfolds itself in front

The YB series of 1,993 cc (121.6 cu in) engines are based on the older Pinto engine block, and were introduced in the road-going Ford Sierra RS Cosworth in 1986 with 204 PS (150 kW; 201 bhp). With 5,000 units built for homologation purposes in Group A, both for rallies and touring cars. Racing versions could develop about 400 hp (298 kW; 406 PS). A limited edition evolution model was introduced in 1987, the RS500, with power now exceeding 550 hp (410 kW; 558 PS) in full racing trim. The RS500 came to dominate touring car racing in its heyday from 1987 to 1992, winning multiple championships and major races in Europe, Japan and Australia. This included wins in the three major races, the Spa 24 Hours held at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama in Australia, and the InterTEC 500 at Fuji in Japan.

At the end of its life in Group A in 1992, the Australian Sierra teams were reportedly getting around 600 bhp (447 kW; 608 PS) from the YB engines.
