I remember wanting to buy this back when it came out in 2014, buy it with Bound by Flame because I wanted to play both of them, bought both of them on sale 10 years later, and I have to say of the 2, this one is much better. Plays similar to dark souls 1, but a bit sluggish by comparison, sometimes, though it feels more like Darksiders 3. I am enjoying all the mechanics it has to play with. The visuals remind me of Castlevania Lords of Shadow a bit. An underrated game, try this one if you like souls-like, similar difficulty curve. The side quests do not hold your hand, you get almost no information to complete them, so when you do, it sometimes feels out of nowhere because you didn't even notice you had completed the necessary goals, though it still feels rewarding when you finish the harder ones.

A huge disappointment as a Borderlands fan. This game looks and plays like Borderlands, but feels hollow. I just feel no fun in playing it. There is just this ineffable feeling about the overall game that just doesn't feel inviting to finish let alone replay multiple times as with the previous Borderlands games, even the Pre-Sequel being the the weakest game in terms of content had me coming back to level up, grind better items, and complete achievements. I regret pre-ordering now, thinking I would get a fantasy themed Borderlands game, and then got this. I am not even going to start on the side characters and their dialogue / politics, especially Tina's 2 co-player characters (the robot and bland guy, they don't deserve names). Also, I think Tina has been downgraded to an unlikable character at least in this game.

Nothing redeeming about this, not worth $1, let alone $10.

THEY BETTER HAVE NOT REMOVED SPEAR-FISHING FROM THE GAME as the game becomes almost unplayable without it, and I will be mad!!!!! gtm.you1.cn/profiles/76561198245923036/recommended/254700?snr=1_5_9__402

EDIT 20230327: I CAN STILL GO SPEAR-FISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a good remake so far, and many of the small changes to game play are well-done and interesting. I am enjoying it as my first feature length game on Steam Deck, however, I was almost out of battery by the end of level one on low to medium graphics setting. Though one big triumph, in my opinion for playing on Steam Deck is how well the audio works on it, giving a consistent feel of dread through ambient noises and sounds even when enemies aren't on screen, as if you can be jumped at any moment, even if you think you know what is going to happen based on playing the original Dead Space.

My biggest problem though is Isaac speaking. I wish there was an option to play with silent Isaac again, as with the original. To me, his silence in the original (especially in video com with other characters) makes you feel alone even when listening, and that to me feels more survival horror as a lone SURVIVOR, than Isaac speaking and moving the story along. Even though I am not far in the game, when you meet Nicole, not speaking to her and therefore not having a conversation with her, makes the big end game revelations more impacting especially given the effects of the Markers and leading into the story of a possible remake of DS2 (though I would rather have a DS4 with an satisfying ending, than a DS2 remake, also no co-op at all as co-op destroys and feeling of true survival horror).

Update 2023/03/09: Having finished the game, I definitely dislike how they revealed the game spoiler, it was better in the original. The shooting range mini game was better in the original, the z-ball game is basically the same as before. The boss fights are different and challenging, but still feel close enough to how they did in the original. The challenge of impossible mode, is greatly increased over the original game's impossible difficulty.

Frustrating puzzle game, finishing only to get all achievements and complete the guide I am working on.
